There is nothing executive about them. Have just spent a very enjoyable weekend in Edinburgh returning with trepidation at night to the apartment. It was cold, the very flimsy door rattled everytime someone closed a door elsewhere in the building. The windows might as well have been open all night they were so draughty and when the wind blew it... More

My daughter and I booked a twin room for her pre-wedding shopping weekend. We picked up the key to no. 4 and arrived late evening as planned. The hall was in darkness with no working light, we had to find the room by mobile phone light. We were met by the smell of stale urine and found that the door... More

This has to be the worst apartments I have ever stayed in. Stains everywhere, windows open ( constantly) to ensure ventilation as there was damp. The Sofabed was covered in stains, the floor wasnt level ( the whole apartment needs re-levelling) and the bathroom leads much to be desired. We stayed in 3/11 of castle Apartments weekend of the 29th... More

We arrived at 22 Annandale room 3 and we were a bit apprehensive at the door to the 'suite' The door was very flimsy and not very secure. The room was large and airy and we were initially pleasantly surprised at the decor, but unfortunately this was short lived. The cooking facilities were a joke, we had pots and cooking... More

Property rented - apartment 3/2, 493 St. James Court Date - 25th August - 6th September Scottish Apartments have now changed ownership, now under the title 'Tartan Apartments'. The following points: 1. We were NOT told that there was completely insufficient space for 4 adults and 2 children. Thankfully my parents-in-law are very flexible people. 2. Practically no storage space... More

We stayed here in winter with a young toddler. Storage heaters didn't work & it was Freezing!!! Minus degrees seriously. Heaters looked like a death trap anyway & were falling apart. Strong burning smell from the only one which did work slightly & chucked out a minimal amount of heat. Where a part of the bath tap had broken a... More

3 beds squashed into an - admittedly very clean - room. Very flimsy door so didn't feel very safe. Shower fell off the wall, no towel rail or heating in bathroom. The electricity went off in the middle of the night (I know this because at 4.00 am I decided to try and read as the neighbours were so noisy... More

The room was advertised as "Luxury Executive Apartment" what it was was a largeish room with 3 beds in it (ok, 4 beds, but two had been pushed together to form a double, despite the beds being different hieghts). There was a good shower. Other equipment included a TV/DVD, a toaster, a microwave and a kettle. Bizzarely some pads were... More

Went up for my brother's stag do and went to get the keys. Let a huge deposit of £500 and were assured that "unless you knock down one of the walls" it would be refunded at the end of the visit. Got to the apartment 22 Annandale Street and had 4 rooms when we had paid for 6. Had 7... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
