Very satisfactory - location superb with some lovely restaurants in the area ('Asti's - Italian highly recommended), terrific breakfast, quiet and comfortable bedroom (if rather small - room 4). Would we book again? Certainly!

Fantastic location.Within easy reach of Tram services, Edinburgh Waverley and Edinburgh bus station. Within walking distance of the main Edinburgh attractions. Lovely rooms and very comfortable beds. A peaceful night's sleep in an oasis of calm in the middle of a bustling capital. No traffic noise whatsoever. Delicious breakfasts cooked to order. Very attentive owners. Highly recommended. Will be back.

Stayed for 2 nights, room was clean and comfortable only down fall was the shower was a bit hit or miss with the temperature settings. Breakfast was superb. Excellent location close to lots of bars and restaurants. Parking was a big plus point. Fiona was very helpful and friendly too. Would recommend staying here.

Excellent location, close to lots of bars and restaurants. About 10-15 minute walk to the Royal Mile. Bright, clean room. Breakfasts were delicious, with lots of choice. Friendly service. Would definitely stay again.

I have stayed in the Broughton Hotel a number of times now, and every time it has been a truly relaxing experience. With a warm welcome on arrival from Freddie & Fiona, very comfortable beds, delicious breakfast and being located so close to the centre of Edinburgh, I could not recommend the Broughton Hotel highly enough. I am planning my... More

Stayed here recently with family. Had two rooms, and both we're clean and acceptable. On arrival Freddie was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good, plenty of choice and very tasty. Young waitress must be praised for her politeness and speedy work. The only downside was that dog was walking around hall and near stairs. Don't think its appropriate.... More

Booked for my Grandad who was visiting. He loved the breakfast. Fiona made him feel very welcome and comfortable! He said he slept well all 3 nights as it was very quiet! Would book again as it's very central and easy to get to.

stayed for 3 days last week and really cant fault the place. within easy walking distance of all the points of interest and the city centre. Plenty of pubs and restaurants nearby as well , not that you need lunch after a hearty breakfast. Very pleasant couple run the place too. would definitely stay there again.

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
