It's a strange hotel that has no heart. What I mean is the hotel has neither a functioning reception area (it's a desk in a corridor nor a bar! No bar, you heard me. They have a small restaurant, which is good. The rooms are nice, nothing special but nice. The area is very good. Away from the bustle. Staff... More

Stayed here with my wife as part of our 5th wedding anniversary celebrations. The hotel has a good location just 5 minutes stroll from Stockbridge. Our room was on the top floor and was pretty cramped which made relaxing a struggle. I also requested their turn down service and a morning paper neither of which materialised, not the end of... What else can I say that hasn't been said before? This hotel is fantastic. The petit double we stayed in was gorgeous, floor to ceiling window, Nespresso machine, huge tv, digital radio, lovely decor, great view of the city and the best breakfast iv ever had in a hotel.

This really is a hidden gem, small but perfectly formed. From the initial welcome to checking out, the staff were so friendly and helpful. The hotel is minutes walk from the West End, in the splendour of Edinburgh's New Town. We had one of the small rooms but it was ideal for us. The radio and nespresso machine are lovely... More

A beautiful hotel, excellent staff and a massive room. We stayed for one night having booked through Avios. Couldn't fault anything about our experience from friendly welcome to a very late leisurely breakfast (which is served until 12 noon at the weekend).

A very friendly and enjoyable stay. fantastic team effort by all . Food was amazing . The only fault I can pick was the very slow water pressure to fill up the hot tub !!! But well worth the wait. The manager should be very proud .

This was a very last minute booking and after a frantic week of promotions I needed a lovely hotel in Edinburgh in a convenient location and a bit of pampering even if this was a business trip. I had stayed at a Nira Hotel in St Moritz and loved it so thought I would give this sister hotel a try.... More

My husband and I stayed here a while ago, but it definitely warrants a 5star review! The building is beautiful and presented with a stylish decor, the service was lovely and the breakfast was delicious. We really enjoyed our stay in Edinburgh and this hotel made it even more memorable. We would most certainly return here when up in Edinburgh.

We actually were in Edinburgh twice on our trip and chose to stay at 2 different places. We LOVED Nira Caledonia it was our favorite. The staff was by far the most friendly and accommodating (really really over the norm of service) we experienced. The atmosphere is awesome very opulent old school feeling yet modern and new. The place was... More

It is difficult to believe hustle and bustle of Edinburgh is only about 15 minutes walk (albeit slightly uphill) from this lovely hotel in a quiet residential area. Staff were all very welcoming and while we were being booked in served us coffee and took our bags to room

Staying in Stockbridge & Dean Village

Neighborhood Profile
Stockbridge & Dean Village
Just downhill of New Town and attractively straddling a river near the elegant Royal Botanic Garden, it’s small wonder that Stockbridge became one of the city’s first hip neighborhoods. It’s now one of Edinburgh’s most desirable, though many bohemian touches have fallen away as its residents have matured and the area has gentrified. Some second-hand shops cling on, but mostly residents display refined tastes in basement bistros, gastropubs, coffee and antique shops, boutiques and delis and at the Sunday farmers' market. A pleasant ten-minute walk away, along a leafy riverside path beside the gurgling Water of Leith, lies Dean Village. This sleepy neighborhood of medieval half-timbered houses still retains much of the village feel it had when watermills plied their trade here. Beyond, the wooded riverside path feels even more remote as it climbs to the sculpture gardens of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
