My husband and I stayed for three nights. We were very happy with the beautiful room and the friendly service. The staff were mostly pretty young and did a very good job. They were helpful, polite and professional. We were taken by one of the staff to our room and showed around it was large. well decorated and comfortable. A... More

NardaS Sounds to me like you guys had a pretty good time and everything went well during your stay. We spend a lot of time working on our service cycle and standards both front of house and in the restaurant so I glad that all went to plan. 6/10 is a stunning room, really breathtaking and the views of the... We stayed at the Nira Caledonia for two nights in July. Everything about this hotel was prefect from the friendly staff to the beautiful bedroom. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the city centre which was gave us a prefect base for the weekend. The pillows were a little soft for our liking but we did have... More

We had two rooms here for three nights - one a suite and one a petit double room - all absolutely immaculate with lovely toiletries and comfy beds. It's a beautifully appointed hotel in a great location. An easy walk into the centre and getting a cab back at the end if the day was not a problem and really... More

Hello Barbara2812 Finally the espresso marmalade gets a mention. The breakfast team will be chuffed. All our jams and marmalades come from the farmers market on just down the hill for the hotel every Sunday. This espresso marmalade is a big staff favourite trust me. Thanks for taking the time to post a lovely review , during August it rarely... More

Went to Edinburgh to celebrate my 60th birthday, wife booked hotel through Booking.com. The Nira is a bit off the beaten track but well worth seeking out. However one word of caution, the hotel does not have a lift or air conditioning. Although this is made clear in the hotels information. As the stairs are steep, if you are infirm... More

Hello matelot49 Feel slightly like a kid on parents night at school, I'm glad your "school report" was a good one for us. Thanks for posting . We really do encourage all and any guest arriving at the hotel to respond to our email when they book , letting us know of any requests or needs , I'm often surprised... More

We booked a last minute deal at this hotel and I don't believe we could have made a better choice. Lovely room, delicious dinner, an atmospheric walk around the surrounding streets at twilight and a fabulous breakfast in the morning. It's in a good poison for walking both to Princes Street and also in the opposite direction to the botanic... More

Hi Nik1M Loved the fact you loved the staff uniform, I can tell you we went through many many mood boards and versions before we got to go live with the current version. Thanks for noticing. Some of our rooms are up some stairs and we always welcome any guests to contact us in advance to let us know about... More

Only stayed two nights, but can't fault the hotel. Staff all efficient and friendly, room comfortable and clean. Breakfast tasty and fresh. Close to town, but in a quiet area. Perfect really. I would certainly stay there again.

We are fortunate to be able to travel often and, whenever possible, our first choice for accommodations are B&B’s or Boutique Hotels as they offer a more personalized experience. We had the opportunity to be guests at Nira Caledonia, an extraordinary Boutique Hotel in Edinburgh for four days at the end of July. It is very clear that the General... More

My boyfriend and I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. I telephoned to request a specific suite on their website as it looked gorgeous. Dear Josephinia. Stunning review, and thanks for mentioning Louise , we really do try to book the rooms that guests want and after the refurbishment earlier this year it seems everyone wants to book the rooms from the website. This can be done by partying a small fee to secure the room you wish and can be done at point... More

Was considering not giving a review to keep the place a secret. Great welcome service, pleasant knowledgeable and relaxed staff, fresh and beautiful rooms and common areas, and great breakfast. 2 minutes walk to upper end part of town and 15 minute walk to the center- what else could you wish for in a hotel?

Hello AndersT Can't say much better than "outstanding" . Thanks for posting such a valued and upbeat review. During August it's difficult to please all incoming guests but is sounds as with with your stay we did just that. I hope one day you find the opportunity to return to Nira in Edinburgh . More

This hotel was done up two years ago. It has an intimate cosy feel to it. Shortly after arriving a glass of bubbly was brought to the room as a welcome, that was much appreciated. We had a room on the very top floor which was charming. But it is quite a trek up two floors of a very grand... More

Well Karen C Think your review does exactly what it says on the tin. We are a lovely little hotel, centrally placed for everything and hidden away enough to avoid the hustle bustle of town. Our rooms at the top of the hotel do have fab views of the city and over Stockbridge and Fettes and really are stunning at... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nira Caledonia is surrounded by the cobbled streets and Georgian elegance of New Town, a short stroll from Princes Street, Nira Caledonia is a central yet peaceful Edinburgh retreat. Amid the plush pelmets, rich textures and original cornices you'll find flat-screen televisions, Nespresso coffee machines, complimentary Wi-Fi and iPod docking stations. You'll find warm, heartfelt service and a cool, quirky style. Each of our sumptuous rooms and suites is unique, with its own opulent character. Many have vast floor-to-ceiling sash windows, others open out onto a private garden and some feature a relaxing Jacuzzi. All have new ultra-comfortable beds and pillows of goose feather and down. As a protected Grade A building we don't have a lift, but our porters are always on hand and we offer 24-hour room service. The cuisine at our restaurant is natural, fresh and often organic, with ingredients farmed, caught, raised or bred in Scotland and with over 25 Scotch whiskey blends and single malts, our bar also focuses on local flavours. With a friendly touch - and a touch of theatre - we welcome independent-minded travellers who prefer to go their own way. Come our way. ... more   less
