Rory, many thanks for the wonderful dinning experience we recently had at the Nira Caledonia restaurant before heading to the Tattoo. Menu, wine choice and staff of the highest quality and service. Many thanks Mr & Mrs Y!

Just back from a 2 night stay in Edinburgh. The Nira Caledonian is a fantastic little hotel right near the centre, prefect for sight seeing. Being a listed building it has lots of character and is decorated to a really high spec. We stayed in the petit room which was small but had everything you needed and more. The room... More

My family and I stayed at Nira in July on our UK trip from Australia. It was the first time we had brought my two young sons to the UK and with one of them having severe allergies we were somewhat paranoid about where we stayed and how we would be catered for. When booking we were told there would... More

I acknowledge our experience was a bit different. We needed a room for three people and so the price for the suite was rather expensive in this little boutique hotel. The room was very nice. Both the bathroom and bedroom have been updated and have a very modern, classy look--it was just pricey. The shower in the jacuzzi tub leaks... More

We just returned from visiting Edinburgh and stayed at the wonderful Nira Caledonia for a few days. Our room was very comfortable, and the entire hotel was beautifully restored. The staff were amazingly attentive and knowledgable about Scottish & Edinburgh history which made our visit very memorable. The restaurant is excellent (we had dinner and breakfast there) as were the... More

We loved this place for its beautiful decor, excellent breakfast and quiet but central location. A five minute walk puts you in the middle of George Street so don't be deceived by maps -- it is very centrally located. The staff were terrific too!Definitely would recommend to family and friends!

Morning Hugalex Thanks for a quality little review. I'm sitting here having my morning coffee before we go in to a busy August day and reading this review cheered me up. Our hotel is well located for everything in Edinburgh and of course , we are part of the Stockbridge village . I hope to welcome you again soon to... More

We stayed at the Nira recently during the Edinburgh Festival as part of our mini-honeymoon. The room itself was very nice. We had a jacuzzi bath and it was fantastic, probably the best bath/shower I've ever had. The bed was super comfortable as well. The rooms are beautiful and the garden ours backed on to was very nice. But there... More

Hello bugenglishteacher Oh, some work to be done here I see.. Right then . Firstly brilliant you over nearly everything and that you thought the staff and breakfast were amazing, Secondly, these bed side tables.. I totally agree they are in some too far too cluttered. I stay every week and often try to fix such things while I'm in... More

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Upon arrival we were quickly checked in by a friendly receptionist who was very helpful. We stayed in room 10/1 which is on the top floor. If you have any difficulty climbing stairs I suggest you request a room on the lower floors as it is quite a hike. The room was... More

Hello ClaireDaws What a great review, sounds like you really experienced the full Nira experience . 10/1 is one of our petite doubles but it's a great room with stunning views. We make a big effort at breakfast time to get it "just right" I'm glad you loved it and the transformation of he room at dinner to make it... More

stayed here for a night in Edinburgh, the hotel is one of the best I have stayed at. The Hotel is an entire Regency House in the New Town, is opulently appointed and our room even had it's own garden. The breakfast was excellent and the staff fist class. Go there.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nira Caledonia is surrounded by the cobbled streets and Georgian elegance of New Town, a short stroll from Princes Street, Nira Caledonia is a central yet peaceful Edinburgh retreat. Amid the plush pelmets, rich textures and original cornices you'll find flat-screen televisions, Nespresso coffee machines, complimentary Wi-Fi and iPod docking stations. You'll find warm, heartfelt service and a cool, quirky style. Each of our sumptuous rooms and suites is unique, with its own opulent character. Many have vast floor-to-ceiling sash windows, others open out onto a private garden and some feature a relaxing Jacuzzi. All have new ultra-comfortable beds and pillows of goose feather and down. As a protected Grade A building we don't have a lift, but our porters are always on hand and we offer 24-hour room service. The cuisine at our restaurant is natural, fresh and often organic, with ingredients farmed, caught, raised or bred in Scotland and with over 25 Scotch whiskey blends and single malts, our bar also focuses on local flavours. With a friendly touch - and a touch of theatre - we welcome independent-minded travellers who prefer to go their own way. Come our way. ... more   less
