The situation is good. We booked an "executive suite" at this hotel which was in fact an attic at the top of three very steep flights of stairs. We are over 75. It was not air conditioned. There was a fan which was inadequate. The bath had mould on the edge which took two complaints to remove. Breakfast was generous... More

Had three rooms in my party. Two were four flights up, essentially in an attic. My first suite room was extremely noisy. When I asked to move, was told there was a room three flights up. When I packed to leave property, a room was found . Hmmmmm Some Very annoying habits: housekeeping turns in radios in rooms after cleaning.... More

Had a great stay, helpful and welcoming staff and wonderful food. The breakfast was wonderful. Had dinner at the restaurant and the fish was AMAZING...highly recommend it. Loved New Town location mostly private homes so you felt you were in a real neighborhood not just the tourist section of town. Walked to a great pub nearby and had a pint... More

We booked one night at this hotel based on the reviews it has received on trip advisor and the modern yet traditional feel of the website and the photos it provided. We had booked a petite double with dinner in the evening. Unfortunately when we arrived we checked in and were put in a tiny room in what felt like... More

This is a fabulous hotel in a beautiful part of Edinburgh. We were very fortunate to be upgraded to a suite which was extremely large and comfortable. We even had our own little garden to look out on to. The first night we were there we found our mattress very soft, but after we mentioned it to the desk staff... More

This is a boutique hotel within walking distance of the castle. The staff are excellent especially Chris who acts as waiter, bellhop, and porter, and never seems to leave as he was there late at night and early in morning for breakfast. Rooms are nice with some quirks. Beautiful bed and appointments. Bathroom appears nice but tricky to operate shower.... More

Having booked the Nira Caledonia on line, not really knowing what to expect but reading rave reviews, we were not disappointed! Our short trip had started badly as we were due to see the Foo Fighters in concert at Murrayfield, only for them to cancel when a certain somebody took a dive off the stage 10 days earlier in Sweden,... 3rd stay at The Nira (formally No10 ) and tremendous, as usual. We had the exact same room as the one we stayed in last year when we got engaged. Thought it quite apt to return for our 1st anniversary. From the free glass of Proscetto on arrival to leaving on the Sunday morning the room, the staff and the... More

We had a two night stay at the Nira Caledonia, a very nice small Hotel conveniently located near the New Town in Edinburgh. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, and we enjoyed the "full Scottish breakfast" that came with our room. We opted for a suite, and the only negative was that our suite was located on the bottom... More

Stayed a second time in this hotel, this time we went for the executive double room instead of the petite double since we got a pretty decent deal on that. I reckon that justifies another review on one of my fave hotels out there. As usual the place is top notch when it comes to service, the staff will help... More

Staying in Stockbridge & Dean Village

Neighborhood Profile
Stockbridge & Dean Village
Just downhill of New Town and attractively straddling a river near the elegant Royal Botanic Garden, it’s small wonder that Stockbridge became one of the city’s first hip neighborhoods. It’s now one of Edinburgh’s most desirable, though many bohemian touches have fallen away as its residents have matured and the area has gentrified. Some second-hand shops cling on, but mostly residents display refined tastes in basement bistros, gastropubs, coffee and antique shops, boutiques and delis and at the Sunday farmers' market. A pleasant ten-minute walk away, along a leafy riverside path beside the gurgling Water of Leith, lies Dean Village. This sleepy neighborhood of medieval half-timbered houses still retains much of the village feel it had when watermills plied their trade here. Beyond, the wooded riverside path feels even more remote as it climbs to the sculpture gardens of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
