I stayed at the Grassmarket Hotel for the first time over Easter Weekend 2008, and I could not have been more pleased with my choice. I made the selection from the tripadvisor.co.uk reviews; it is a mixed review, and some complaints of noises and degree of cleanliness. First of all, noises do not bother me in the slightest, being a... more

The best part about this hotel is the location. It's close to all the touristy stuff and has plenty of exciting pubs nearby. The staff was also very pleasant. The rooms were decent sizes. However, the walls were thin and I felt every spring in the mattress. Despite some discomfort, the location made up for it. I didn't go to... more

This hotel is brilliantly located near to many pubs and clubs. It is also right underneath the castle!! With lots of groups staying, the hotel is geared up to cater for party groups. The rooms are clean and tidy and have powerful showers. Excellent value for money given location. more

Booked this hotel to join by family there for the hogmany celebrations, so I did not chose it myself. However it was good value for money for a family room at new year I think we only paid a tenner extra to a double room. Brilliant location central, walking distance to all attractions. Great bars below, handy once kids wanted... more

The breakfast is excellent for persons with a good apatite and the bar area is reasonable, but the hotel accommadation needs attention. Having worked in the hotel trade for eight years I think this is the worst hotel room I have had the pleasure of sleeping in. The problems encountered while staying in Room 216. 1. Noise due to single... more

We arrived at this hotel and our 1st impression was 'It's not much to look at', but when you are in you room it is totally different. The rooms are very spacious, yet they are in need of a lick of paint. The best thing about this hotel is the location. It leads directly to the city centre ans strings... more

This is a budget hotel. It is basic and it is authentic. It is based in the very heart of the old town just below the Castle. The Castle area is on a step hill a volcnic plug and the area around is built into the contours. The hotel is an old building really a couple of old buildings joined... more

As with other budget hotels my rating 'above average' means good value for money compared to other experiences. Very close to Edinburgh Castle. The receptionist made a couple of small mistakes but - more importantly - corrected them as soon as I pointed them out. The bed filled most of the room but all I needed was a place to... more

The Grassmarket is central; you can get taxis places but to be honest, if you can make it up from the new town to the old town, you can keep walking to the Grassmarket. It's also warm; in deepest November, we were cosy in there. The breakfasts were amazing - so long as you like fried breakfasts as found in... more
