for the money this hotel is awful. put simply i would recommend you go elsewhere. my room was unbearable as the air-conditioning unit was squeaking, the room was dark, cramped and stuffy. the windows were painted shut, the bathroom was poorly laid out and the corridors smelt stale. perhaps worst of all when i complained about the noise on the... Good morning, I am very sorry to hear you did not enjoy your experience with us, we have rectified the issue with the air conditioning - as it was very suddenly warm in Edinburgh this April, it had been a swift effort to try to swap our air conditioning system over to Summer setting. I am absolutely certain nobody working... More

Arrived Thu 9 April for 2 nights in a quad room and paid £420 inc breakfast.Family trip and hotel advised we were bringing our 18m old son and requested a travel cot. This is where the problems started, our room was on the 3rd floor, the lift only went to the 1st floor, we had to carry our pram and... More

Great staff and location. Breakfast was vast, would recommend for a stay. Some of the decor in hall ways could do with an upgrade and our room was at the front so a little noisy but still slept well, very comfy beds. If you have room 101 the shower + and - are the wrong way around.

Good morning Nadia, Thank you very much for the lovely feedback! I am very happy you found our beds so comfy and had a good stay with us! As Grassmarket is a very busy bustling area it can be difficult to control the noise from the street but we are glad we can provide double glazing and sound proofing to... More

Quirky rooms, compact but great use of space and really like the decor inside. Excellent location for exploring Edinburgh on foot. Really friendly staff and a very relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely stay again

The room was clean, and the bed was very nice and comfortable! However, we could not seem to find the 'free wifi', and it was very noisy every morning. Other than that, it was a very nice hotel which is great for a getaway!

Good morning Sirada, I am very happy to hear you found our room clean and comfortable - feats we work had to achieve! It is very strange that you could not access the complimentary wifi service as we do have it in all areas of the hotel. I am curious as to how it was noisy every morning as the... More

Had a decent stay here. Room for 4 of us was spacious enough and clean. Not a luxurious hotel, more quirky. Some of the reception staff a bit surly and not very welcoming, just depends who is on that shift. I pod dock not working, no one seemed to care as we were given a lead. Came with 2 teenagers... Good morning Ann, I'm glad you found the room a good size for you and your family - we certainly pride ourselves on being a little bit more fun than a standard chain luxury hotel, but we do also provide the nicest amenities and in-room services we can. This hotel has a historical significance, as it is situated right on Grassmarket square, which has a history of its own. The hotel itself is very quirky with interesting décor at reception and the rooms. We had a dandy poster clad room. THe room itself was quite small, with a double bed pushed to wall, so that wall was on... More

I was there with my sisters (our age is between 17-28). We absolutely loved the hotel. The three of us shared the room and it the interior was as just as shown on the website. Room is also pretty spacious. Location is great and staff is really friendly. We had a great time there.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
