I didn't enjoy staying at this hostel. First and foremost, and this is the reason I'm never coming back: TERRIBLE, I mean TERRIBLE INTERNET CONNECTION!!!!! If more than two people attempt to connect at one time, you get booted off, or the internet stops working and the router has to be reset. This happened, no exaggeration, about 15 times in... More

I was expecting it to be a lot worse if I'm absolutely honest, but I was pleasantly surprised. Whilst I didn't have much interaction with staff they seemed friendly enough. To say the long term residents were characters would be an understatement. The hostel did what it said on the tin, providing cheap yet comfortable accomodation. The code on the... More

Clean friendly welcoming staff. Free WIFI. In the heart of Edinburgh Very Affordable Nothing more I could ask for really when travelling Europe with friends. You get what you pay for, and I think Boutique gives you more for your money.

I've been in this hostel for 4 nights in a six beds ensuite toilet dorm. The hostel il located in Prencess Street near the tram stop. The entrance is in the ground floor but the reception is in the first floor and sometime it's impossible to pay by credit card. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the reception is... More

Went to Edinburgh for sightseeing. The location is still within walking distance from Edinburgh Waverly, but at first I was lost while trying reach the hostel. There's Sainsbury across the street. They were setting up new beds when I arrived, so I have to wait for another few hours to check-in. The keeper-lady was very friendly. Throughout my stay, I... More

It's by far one of the worse places I have ever stayed in.... never ever again...Make sure your report any damages in your room when you check in as you will b charged. Leave nothing in room as staff come into room when your out when they have no need too. Management awful..... staff polite and helpful.

Stayed in alot of places but this by far is the worst. If you do intend to stay here take pictures of any damage in your room as they will make you pay even if it wasn't you who caused it. Never again. New owners are bad but some of the staff r nice thats the only plus I can... More

For the price, it's not bad. The management work hard to keep the place maintained, but I had booked into a female only dorm for 4 nights and 2 of those had guys in the room. Also, they said the reception closes at 9pm, got there at 8:15 and the manager was walking out the door. I wouldn't have been... More

When I arrived my reservation was not on the reveptionists list at all, i got a room, but the whole hostel is poorly organized. The bathrooms/toilets where so dirty and partially not working at all. It is central, but there is dozen other hostels that are more central. If you can avoid this place, do so. It's not the worst... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
