Lovely hotel right in the centre of Edinburgh. The couple that own it are really nice. Me and my girlfriend stayed there a couple of nights and we slept soundly. My only nitpicks were that the shared toliet needed to be checked more reg and the that the breakfast needs to go on for a little longer than 9am. Definitely... More

I'll definitely be taking me and my fiancée back to this hotel,it's a little gem. The couple that own the place are really really nice and friendly and also cool a brilliant breakfast for you in the morning. The room was very clean and so was the shower. Rooms are fitted with satellite TV and tea and coffee making facilities.... More

My wife and I recently spent a couple of days in Edinburgh and we stayed at the Terrace Hotel. Everything about this place was perfect. For starters, we got there early and although our room wasn't ready, they allowed us to leave our bags there and told us we were free to carry on with our day and collect our... More

Stayed at the Terrace for 2 nights what a great find, Rooms spacious, clean and very comfortable. Staff very pleasant and accommodating. Breakfast was very good. The hotel is situated within easy walking distance of the town centre and theater district. We had great few days exploring this beautiful city and this was complimented by our stay at the Terrace... I have been to Edinburgh three times and I finally found a quiet, comfortable place to sleep! This location is just far enough away from the action that you can sleep soundly but just a perfect distance that you can walk comfortably to the Royal Mile as well. The shower was hot with great water pressure too. I won't stay... More

Found this place on one of the discount hotel booking sites, can't remember which, & very pleased we did! Great location by Calton Hill & a stone's throw from the Holyrood Palace end of the Royal Mile / excellent base for sightseeing which is what our 3-night trip was all about. Facilities excellent too: clean, well-serviced room & en-suite toilet... More

Beautiful building, friendly staff, very clean rooms, excellent breakfast. Nice and quiet in the rear rooms overlooking Carlton Hill walks. Car parking is even reasonable, if you follow the rules. Wonderful interior stairway and cupula, there is no lift.

Have stayed here on 3 occasions now and have never been disappointed. Michael the owner is a delight and couldn't do more for you. The rooms are huge with lots of space and the breakfasts are lovely, we will always come back here when visiting Edinburgh as the location and friendliness add to our holiday.

When I was looking for somewhere to stay for one night I was ideally looking for somewhere which was relatively cheap (for Edinburgh!) and pretty central. The Terrace Hotel is a fantastic find, it's excellent value for money, walking distance to Princes St/Royal Mile so you probably won't need a taxi at any point unless you're feeling lazy ;) The... Hotel has everything you need for a comfortable stay in Edinburgh. For breakfast there was a large array of choice and was tasty. The rooms were large and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again.

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
