This is a lovely quite hotel close to attractions and shopping. A Spotless hotel with friendly staff. The rooms are large with comfortable beds and linens. In the morning enjoy the delicious plentiful breakfast!

I was visiting this wonderful hotel with my mum and my brother who's got Down Syndrom 21. We all were very taken with this location. The hotel itself is located about 10 walking-minutes from the City Center so everything was very fast and easy to reach even per pedes. This was very important to us for my brother gives us... More

This hotel was in a beautiful old building with a great location. It was a short walk to Calton Hill and all of the attractions of Edinburgh. The staff were friendly and our room was large and very comfortable. The breakfast was good with plenty of choice. There was parking along the street which was free during weekends. We had... More

We stayed at the Terrace Hotel from 7/29/15-8/1/15. The hotel is at the far end of Royal Terrace and was just the right location for us. While a bit off the beaten path it's within easy walking distance of the Royal Mile, Waverley Station and most of the sights in the city. A really nice boutique hotel in a gorgeously... More

We stayed at the Terrace Hotel just after visiting the Lake District. Took the train to Waverly station, walked the 3/4 mile (or so) distance to the Terrace Hotel. Easy to find, an easy walk. We were greeted very pleasantly and since we were early, we were able to leave our luggage and tour the city before returning. Our rooms... More

What can I say........perfect..!! Perfect place, location, staff, area, rooms, etc. £3.80 from the Edinburgh station by taxi in Aug 2015. Or if you want to walk, 15 minute lovely walk. Close the the city centre, but far enough out to have the peace and quiet too.. The Mr and Mrs who run the hotel are like your ideal mum... More

It's not easy to find a reasonably priced room for a family of four in the UK. This hotel is an exception. We stayed in Room 14. The owner is friendly and accommodating, and the breakfast service was delightful. We would stay here again. The hotel backs up to Calton Hill--fun for exploring.

Not the nicest of hotels at all but the location is good. Unfortunately, we were staying on the top floor and it isn't half a tough trek up their with bags and cases! The breakfast was ok but takes a long time to get served.

This hotel is set just on the outskirts of the city within about a 10 to 15 minute walk. So near enough to enjoy the sights and far away enough for peace and quiet. The hotel interior is spotless and well maintained and the beds were excellent. Breakfast was freshly cooked with a varied choice to suit all needs. Staff... More

Great hotel on lovely quiet stunning georgian cobbled road within easy walking distance of all attractions. The owner was nice and friendly and the young lady who served the lovely breakfast was cheerful and chatty. The room we had was number 14 at the top of the house, quite a climb to get to but great views and nice big... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
