Yes, it may be a little bit aged and a bit dusty around its edges, but the Terrace Hotel is an ideal location for a weekend stay. It's a few doors away from the Crown Plaza that is double the price. Breakfast is good, rooms are warm, and the views from the third floor were of leith, Firth of Forth,... More

The Terrace Hotel was beautiful, the service brilliant and the food excellent. The room was warm (it was December) and spacious with a pleasant view. The WiFi connection is one of the best I've ever had at a hotel. Michael was helpful and businesslike and the lady serving our breakfast was lovely. I'd definitely recommend this hotel which was also... More

Thank you ?Xavier? for your positive review. I really appreciate it. In fact I like ALL the reviews - even the negative ones - they give me a 'sting' but there is always something to be learned from even a poor review. Some things we cannot change immediately (like installing a lift) but we do pay attention to all the... More

I booked late so limited availability near old town. I am not sure if the reviewers actually stayed here. The walk from tram is about 20 minutes up hill. Better to take bus 35 get off at Before London road. About a 10 minute walk up hill. All public rides about 45 minutes and reasonably priced. Upon arrival met by... More

I generally recognise guests from the comments but cannot place this person. In reply to some of the comments: Every year – this year no exception I start beginning November – short break for Christmas – then all of January – repainting as many rooms as possible – so far this Nov / Jan I have repainted 11 (mostly walls... I booked the hotel for the ambiance and the breakfast - neither disappointed. It had the feel of an old mansion and the breakfast did not disappoint. Clean and comfortable. Shot walk from all the main attractions. if you intend to go back to your room often - then not the best location. Staff was very nice. Enjoyed my stay.

Our credit card was charged without our permission. We secured the booking with a credit card but with the intention of paying on a different card that we were unable to secure the booking with. We were told as we arrived late the credit card had been charged and that we should've contacted them to advise of the late arrival.... More

Guests were arriving on flight from Bristol which landed just before 10 p.m. I charged the card given to secure the booking at just before midnight. Guests arrived about 2 minutes before midnight. There would have been no problem if we had known they were arriving late or wanted to give us different credit card details to secure the booking.... More

We booked this via laterooms as it was proving difficult at short notice to get a reasonably priced hotel close to the city centre for a Saturday night in December. The hotel is situated only about ten minutes walk from Waverley station, and we parked for free over the weekend on the street outside. It is metered during the week... More

I have stayed at the Terrace Hotel on a regular basis over the last 12 months. I've always been made welcome and would recommend it to anyone who wants a good value for money place to stay within reach of the city centre.

What a lovely hotel situated in Edinburgh, about 15 minutes walk from the train station. Upon arrival, greeted with a warm smile by the owner, lovely gent! Spotlessly clean, smells fresh and lovely entrance area too. Bit of a walk up the stairs to the rooms, as what other people have said too, but I can NOT complain about the... More

Made to feel welcome as soon as the wife and I arrived, nice big room (6) that had own shower and a spare single bed. Very comfortable bed and The most comfortable pillows I have ever slept on. Breakfast as it should be sausage, bacon, egg, hash brown, beans and so on. On the whole a nice hotel and wouldn't... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
