It's not easy to find a reasonably priced room for a family of four in the UK. This hotel is an exception. We stayed in Room 14. The owner is friendly and accommodating, and the breakfast service was delightful. We would stay here again. The hotel backs up to Calton Hill--fun for exploring.

Not the nicest of hotels at all but the location is good. Unfortunately, we were staying on the top floor and it isn't half a tough trek up their with bags and cases! The breakfast was ok but takes a long time to get served.

This hotel is set just on the outskirts of the city within about a 10 to 15 minute walk. So near enough to enjoy the sights and far away enough for peace and quiet. The hotel interior is spotless and well maintained and the beds were excellent. Breakfast was freshly cooked with a varied choice to suit all needs. Staff... More

Great hotel on lovely quiet stunning georgian cobbled road within easy walking distance of all attractions. The owner was nice and friendly and the young lady who served the lovely breakfast was cheerful and chatty. The room we had was number 14 at the top of the house, quite a climb to get to but great views and nice big... More

Great hotel, breakfast is first class. Stayed with my husband for a long weekend for the rugby & we had a fabulous time. Central location, very accomodating. No lift & we were on the top floor. Will definately be returning.

The hotel itself is good. Its situated at the Royal Terrace street wherein there are plenty of other hotels as well. The high ceiling houses are converted into the B & B. The rooms in this hotel are very clean and comfortable. The shower in the bathroom is electric and takes some time to set the right temperature. Breakfast in... More

We made a terrific choice via the Internet by choosing this hotel along a quiet row above busy Regent Street. It has a regal, high-ceiling'd interior. Our second floor room #11 has a draped tall window and faces the rear to lovely greenery. It was quite comfortable, with a spacious en suite bath, re-supplied with towels daily. Street parking is... The terrace hotel is a fabulous hotel. Ideally located just a short walk from most of edinburghs attractions. All of the staff we met were friendly and attentive and the owner took time to speak to all guests on arrival and departure. Our cooked breakfast was one of the best I've had, ever! I throughly enjoyed my stay here and... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
