Visited Lairg with friends, both rooms were spacious, beautiful four poster beds and also single bed in each room, Immaculate bedding and also extremely comfortable. Bathrooms did not disappoint even though I do prefer a bath rather than shower. Breakfast delightful, staff welcoming and friendly. We will definitely return ,,

We stayed at the Lairg during the Edinburgh Festival, so in all honesty is was hard to tell if it was good value or not, though it must have been reasonable for me to book it at the start. The hotel is a short walk from the Haymarket station and a short tram ride into Edinburgh. Haymarket is busy and... More

Stayed here just for 1 night in an extremely spacious family room (in fact it was huge!!) It was very clean, well-kept, bathroom was new and to a very high standard. Breakfast was wonderful and a vegetarian option was also available. It was in a perfect location for us and would stay here again.

A real Fawlty Towers. When I arrived @ 8:30am Romulus fronted up in the hallway dressed very casually and the first thing he said was 'you're arrived early'. Really? Did he think I didn't know that? I had come from Australia and didn't get to choose my arrival time. I had advised I would be early and didn't expect that... More

if you want to stay at an overpriced hotel, no disabled access, no bar, with no parking, no aircon, no opening windows, then you'll enjoy this.. £40 05 £50 more than nearby hotels offering all NORMAL ammenities, including staff who speak fluent English

This was our third stay at The Lairg. We had a new basement room this time, was wary at first but it was lovely. Quality bedding and Towels, very clean and spacious. Staff helpful. Wish more hotels offered the breakfast that you get here. Fresh, cooked to order, plentiful and really good produce. Well worth a stay. .

We had a basement room which was decorated fine, shower & bathroom were ok. However, when we returned to our room, people were smoking directly outside of our window and our room was smelled horribly of smoke. This was just the lower level smoking hangout. I complained to the office (to another smoker) who got them away from our room... More

I stayed here for one night and the only real complaint was the value for money. I did feel the room was fairly basic considering the price and I had originally booked this my partner and I therefore was under the impression it was one double however due to other reasons I had to share the trip with a relative... When this hotel was booked my wife and I were looking for a hotel close to the city, transport, and easy to find form the airport. This hotel did it all. We caught the tram from the airport, got off at Haymarket, and walked approx. 200 yards to our hotel by crossing the road and walking the short distance. We... More

We were asked to pay upfront before being shown our room, very odd. We were then ushered out of the building by the manager and shown to building two doors down the street into a below street level basement room. The room was clean, well decorated and benefitted from a large shower room. But was dark, cold, had a ridiculously... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
