We spent a Saturday night at this hotel as my husband had arranged a birthday meal for me in Edinburgh. Rooms were decorated to a good standard and spacious. The only issue was the bathroom door that kept sticking at the top. Breakfast was lovely but at busy times it is not big enough to hold all guest so you... More

We decided to stay one more night in Edinburgh and thus made a last minute booking in The Lairg. We would mention a wonderfull and spacious clean room, a somptous Breakfast and a helpful staff. On the negative side, the access to Wifi was impossible in our room on the second floor through the weakness of the routers.

Positiv: - quite near to city center - right next to bus/tram station - clean - large and clean room - friendly staff - good value Not so good: - bed - clairaudient Didn't try breakfast. Overall we were happy with our stay at the Lairg. We can recommend it for a few nights.

I chose the Lairg because it is close to city centre and affordable. My room had single bed with desk, nightstand, full-length mirror, wardrobe, cable TV and wifi. The was no lift/elevator so the manager had to carry my bag up the stairs to my room.. The bathroom was functional, but the shower head was inflexible and shower stall is... More

My friend and I stayed at this delightful hotel for 3 nights, we were towards the end of a 4 week stay in the UK so had plenty of comparisons to make. We found everything about the Lairg excellent. The whole hotel is tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. Our room was spacious ( by UK standards), clean and comfortable. We... More

The hotel is walking distance to everything, if you don't like walking taxi rank up the road as is the rail, buses and trams. Too easy! The hotel manager was very helpful in giving us directions about transport and where to eat. Rooms are immaculately clean and breakfasts delicious. Thank you. We would certainly come back to this hotel.

This hotel was in a great location , just a ten minute walk from Princess street - the main street in Edinburgh. We arrived early (about 12) and check in wasnt for hours but the lady had our room prepared so we got to check in early. Very friendly and helpful staff at reception desk. Interior was a bit dated... Typical britain's small hotel (old style, moquette on the stairs, etc), not so far from the city center and near to the bus stop. Perfect for a fast trip but not so cheap. The staff is friendly and affordable

I stayed here back in February. My room was very cheap and for the money it was very good. The breakfast room was rather dated and service was very slow. It would be nice if there was a lounge area to relax rather than just the room.

We had a lovely stay in a large beautifully furnished room. The hotel was clean and tidy with a nice atmosphere. The rooms are kept very warm so if you are a cold bug this is wonderful, but if you don't like too much heat you need to turn down the heating. Remus and his colleagues were a delight and nothing... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
