Our son moved to Edinburgh recently and we visited him and his partner for the weekend. My Wife and I stayed in the West End of Edinburgh at the Lairg Hotel, which is roughly 0.8 miles from the centre of the City. The hotel was clean, and our room was well appointed with en-suite and it is a reasonably handy... More

Very nice service, tidy and big rooms with a nice view from the garden. Very quiet place and a delicious breakfast. Great location, easy to get around! We didn`t have any problem with shower, heater and so on. Everything was great!

We stayed for 2 nights before flying out to Spain, as a holiday warm up! It's a good location, just a few minutes walk to the tram which takes a short while to the city centre. I can't comment on parking facilities. The room was clean and comfortable and nicely decorated with a nice, if compact, en suite shower room.... More

An overnighter at the Lairg was great. Really nice room in an adjoining building, spacious, warm and very comfortable. Add in a tasty breakfast and all was good! Check in at reception was ok, but not warmest of welcomes! Would be happy to return again though.

Beautiful room with a four poster bed. Clean and nicely decorated. Friendly staff and we got a little giftbox left for us over Hogmanay. Breakfast was not exceptional but was good and generous. I would definitely recommend staying at The Lairg.

We stayed here a couple nights, and liked the size and quality of the room. Also, the breakfast, which was included in our price, was ample and sustaining. The best benefit is that it's close to the train station, and centrally located. Our only real problem with this B&B was the staff. The server who worked breakfast worked hard ...... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
