No 53 was a short walk from the tram that brought us from the airport. Easy to miss on the street as it is just steps and a doorway. We arrived very early but were treated extremely well and our bags were looked after until it was time to check in. We were on the third floor - no elevator... More

Very clean- and most of all very friendly owners who did everything possible to make our stay for the festival great. Nr 53 is located so central, but evenso away from traffic... More

We had a great stay at 53 Frederick Street. It was a perfect location for the shops, entertainment, sightseeing and transport. The room was well equipped and spacious. The breakfast was superb which was provided by a nearby restaurant. We will be returning to this very clean, friendly B&B.

Beautiful bed and breakfast. The room was lovely with a fabulous en- suite. We had a top floor room which was lovely and meant we felt we deserved extra extra helping of breakfast after the climb up the beautiful old stone stairs! No. 53 is really convenient for walking everywhere in Edinburgh. David was really welcoming and happy to give... More

We had a great stay at 53 Frederick Street. Our room was spacious , airy and light, with a view of the surrounding streets. We had everything we needed and it was clean. This B&B is centrally located, a short walking distance to Princess street. Everyone was friendly, helpful and cheery! Breakfast was lovely and generous. The only thing that... More

Good location, close to bus lines, restaurants, shops, etc. Can walk many places, including Edinburgh Castle (but it's uphill). Rooms are up several flights of stairs. Hosts are helpful. We had a large, quiet room in the rear with a spaciouse bathroom and shower. Breakfast is in a restaurant in the basement. Good breakfast buffet, but more of a bar... More

My friend and I arrived early, and the staff let us leave our luggage in the office and offered to drop them off in our room once it was ready. We were also given a map and some suggestions for tours. As for breakfast, they have a deal with Rick's downstairs, for breakfast buffet. We were told we could purchase... More

I booked 3 nights at No 53 with my son in a twin, after touring Scotland and watching the Open we wanted a couple of nights in the city enjoying a beer and watching the end to the golf on TV. No 53 is a splendid Victorian building taking the top 2 floors of 3. We were on the top... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
