It was my first experience in B&B and was not expecting much. However the room offered to us was quite decent and of good size.Room was warm, nice mattress with clean linens.Only drawback of this place is you have to carry your luggage 3 floors on your own.Person running this place is quite helpful. They have some kind of arrangement with a pub/... Wanted somewhere central in Edinburgh but not too noisy. Superb room at back of property, very clean & comfortable, handy for all amenities. The steps are pretty demanding but we were told about that beforehand. We would however encourage maybe a stronger light on the steps especially on the section with the old stone ones as it is very dark... More

We had a very nice room (number 8) clean, comfortable with a spacy bathroom. The breakfast at Ricks is lovely! The location is perfect, very central. The staff is very friendly. Exellent value for money. I definitely recommend.

Room was on 2nd floor above a hairdresser's place in New Town (Edinburgh) lots of upscale shops and restaurants on George St. Rose St is a place to go. Accommodations are not 5-to-the-max star perfect, but the place makes it up with the hospitality of its hosts (David was very friendly, helpful and accommodating--to a fault..). I hope we can... We only booked this the night before and it was excellent value for money as breakfast is also included. Great location, only about 10 minutes from the station and up the hill from Princes Street. The hotel is on the second and third floors of the building so you have to go past a hairdressers on the first floor. Frederick... More

We arrived 1 day earlier than we booked (I shouldn't have let my wife do the booking) but they said it wasn't a problem & put us in a room at no extra cost. All of the staff were friendly & it's clean & in a good location. The breakfast was excellent.

This is a brilliant B&B, clean, comfortable and contained within a beautiful Georgian building. We had a family room number 7, lovely room, great bathroom. We all slept really well on both nights and the breakfast at Ricks Cocktail bar was very generous and set us up for the day. Perfect location, very central, but we had no problem with... More

We've just stayed here and booked last minute. Such a lovely place and the owners were so very helpful throughout. The building is beautiful and the room was very spacious and beautifully decorated. Great location too for George st especially at Xmas. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back again to stay here.

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
