I have been staying at Frederick street about 20-30 times over the last 2 years, and for sure I find this B&B the best value for money, the location is superb, host are very friendly and you feel very welcome, it is an old building with atmosphere and the rooms nice and clean. The location is superb and on top... More

Located right in the middle of one of Edinburgh's three (or maybe four) busy streets, this is a superb B&B. Close to everything - About a mile from the castle, a mile from the train and bus stations, about 200 yards from major shopping attractions and surrounded by great food options. The rooms are clean and the attached baths are... More

Dave, Tessa, Katy, and Binkey (?) made us feel very welcome at 53 Frederick Street in Edinburgh and provided us with much guidance and information. One must walk up a few steps to reach the rooms, but the convenience of the location, the staff, and the cleanliness make 53 Frederick Street an ideal location for those looking for affordable comfort.... Great place. We stayed a total of four nights, three nights at the beginning of week and one night on our way back through town. Great location in New Town. If you're taking the Airlink bus from the airport it's right around the corner from the stop on George Street. An easy walk to anywhere in New Town. Walking to... More

We arrived on a crisp afternoon, and were greeted by Tessa who upgraded us to the family room. The room was great. Comfortable beds x 3, sofas x2, and enough room to move around. Off to a great start ! The bathroom was recently renovated and quite impressive. It is an old building, so the bathroom was draughty, but there... More

53 Frederick Street is a great place to stay. very friendly staff when needed, but overall very private and the rooms are comfortable and have great views. We were in effect on 5th floor (stairs only), but even the stairs to the B&B were stone and worn, showing how old the building is. I would definitely stay here again and... More

A home from home. All the coz y comforts you need. Clean ans tidy. Three of us stayed in the triple room. It was spacious enough for us to not be under each other's feet. The beds were comfortable even though the quilts could do with being a little bit bigger. The entire suit bathroom was large with a power... More

We have just spent the best weekend in the great city of Edinburgh which was made better by the best B&B we have ever stayed in. It's in a beautiful old building full of character but with modern bedrooms. The best thing about this place though is the owners Tess and Jay, they made is feel so welcome and could... More

Myself and 12 other girls stayed at 53 Fredrick Street this weekend for a friends hen do and it was PERFECT in every way! Easy to get to from the airport, located in the heart of the city - we were close to everything we needed, everything was in walking distance. The hotel owners, Tessa and David couldn't of been... Eight of us stayed here early January 2015 to celebrate 2 x 50th birthdays- we were two families of 4, ages ranging from13 to 50, we had two quad rooms, which were immaculately clean and very comfortable. Tess and her partner Jay were most amiable, offering good advise on local restaurants, pubs and tourist attractions. The location is great for... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
