My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights in August. What a great place and what wonderful hosts Maxx and Annette are! They were always available and offered excellent suggestions. The fact that they are so close to a bus stop where you can get downtown from three different buses meant you never had to wait more than a... More

What positive things can I say about this delightful hotel that haven't already been said?? Everything is perfect - the rooms are exceptionally comfortable - the beds/bedding/pillows feel perfectly luxurious, the breakfast is sublime - cooked to order and a good range of fresh, excellent quality produce, the location is great - on a good bus route into town and... Stayed with my wife for 6 nights during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and found absolutely everything to our liking and with the crowds of people in Edinburgh, a great place to relax in a quiet neighbourhood away from the rat race, but only a short bus ride away from the action when needed. Our 1st floor room was clean and... More

Friendly staff was always willing to stop and help us, wither with maps, advice or booking a taxi to get us to the airport. Breakfast was much better than the typical European buffet, as they served cooked to order hot meals as well. The rooms were roomy, well kept and a pleasure to relax in. They were kind enough to... Dear Revieweee Many Moons of thanks Mate, ha ha ha, great Review, glad you like all the forwarded info, being a Small Hotel in Edinburgh I assumed that all Hotels would send out relevant information to their pre-arrival Guests ! ?.. I will tell Annette and Janet that you thought the Breakfast was much superior to the Large Chain Hotels,... More

I needed two rooms for 4 nights during the very busy Festival season and this hotel was the best value. I booked months in advance and a reasonable deposit was required. With respect to location, we would have preferred to be closer to the Festival action near the Royal mile so the hotel would be closer to freshen-up during the... More

Dear Reviewer I see that like me that you have travelled a lot and Unfortunately the golden travel rule is the closer the Hotel is to the Sistine Chapel the more costly it will be and as you have noticed our Hotel manages to give good Value for money balancing room costs with our quiet location. The Edinburgh Festivals are... More

Stayed here for four nights in August to visit while my daughter's theater group performed at the Fringe Festival. Loved the location, close enough to walk to city center (about 1.5 miles) or quickly take an easy 5 minute bus ride. Far enough outside of the city center to be quiet and relaxing, as during the Fringe Festival it is... More

Dear Reviewer Thank you for a generous comparison with the Hotels on Edinburgh's Royal Mile and City Center, location, location is sometime everything when buying a House or Business but I believe Value for Money while on Holiday is something to SMILE about as there are some City Center Hotels that do not care too much because they know that... I admit that when it comes to hotels, I'm a slave to big chains and bribery frequent user points so it was a surprise to me when I picked this hotel for our Edinburgh stay. We stayed 3 nights during the Fringe festival (and Royal Military Tattoo). First, no taxi drivers we ever had had a problem finding them so... More

Very quiet area can offset the distance from City center. Bed, Sheet, Duvet are confortable, feel like being wrapped by silk. I stayed with my parents who travelled from Japan, Parents were glad to stay this hotel.

Frankly, I expected a bit more for our $300 a night at the Ceilidh-Donia, particularly as we booked 8 months in advance. There’s lot to like about the place, but we found our 1st floor room (at the back and up very steep stairs) somewhat cramped. It has a King Size bed which is simply too big for the room.... More

. Dear Reviewer Thank you for your Compliments and observations of the Hotel Ceilidh-Donia, I am well glad that our good points outweighed our bad ones. Can't think of a better place to stay and watch the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony ! Maxx and family's welcome was a joy to behold. Hope you make the right decision on the 18/9 - don't want to use a passport next time I visit !! Would look forward to another delicious ' British breakfast ' :-)
