the location of these apartments is excellent , right on the royal mile. yes the steps are very quirky and very hard work when going to the top floor where we were but its a 400 year old building and is part of its history . no problem with luggage as the staff very kindly took our case up and... We found these apartments a few years ago as we head each December to Edinburgh on a girls weekend. Firstly the location is fantastic, right on the Royal mile and within easy walking distance of everywhere you want to get to Edinburgh. Secondly they are great value for money, hotels can be really expensive and if there are 4 of... More

Make no mistake this is all about location. We chose it deliberately as we are fringe aficionados and wanted to be in the centre of it all. It is not a place for the less able due to the steep steps, it is not a place for light sleepers - street noise ends about 2 a.m. and starts about 5... More

We arrived after check in because of delays and were happy to find that they left our key in the lock box and texted us the instructions. They had also kindly moved us to the building where we retrieved the keys and on the first floor! Which we were relieved to see as the stairs look like a bloody nightmare...... More

We stayed here early May and must admit the apartment block was not what I was expecting! The check-in is downstairs at the back of the shop next door. The gentleman in charge was very helpful and took us to our apartment. The stairs really quite frightened me as not being aware prior to booking the stairs are probably over... More

The doorway to the apartments put me off slightly, looked a little prison like and the concrete staircase was a little claustophobic and steep. However once inside...SUPERB. Our apartment was huge, views of the Royal Mile and truly perfect. We only stayed 2 nights but was perfect for what we needed. It was a home away from home.

First, you must know up front that this is a 300 year old building and there is a stone spiral staircase and no elevator--not for the faint of heart with massive amounts of luggage. Also, it is on the top of the Royal Mile with the expected hustle and bustle of the center of town, street musicians and activity on... More

Great location , speedy check-in . Within walking distance to either end of the royal mile. We were lucky to get a room on the first floor since there's no lift. Loved the purple interior.. Very modern and cosy. We had a problem with our heater . Called the room service and they were quiet efficient. Would definitely recommend this... More

This was our first trip to Edinburgh for the Tattoo & the Festival. Location was superb 5 mins from the castle and beside everything else. Trouble was our apartment no 5 was shabby, furnishings soiled , settee had burn marks on upholstery, and was covered in hairs. paintwork and wall coverings scuffed. Place was clean enough but just tired looking... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
