Nice lady but very basic accommodation. Hideous decor, mismatched furniture, en-suite was basically a cupboard. Tea and coffee making facilities = half used jar of cheap coffee, pot of tea bags. Only booked this as allowed one adult and 3 children in a room which others didn't. Accept that you get what you pay for but I paid £84 per... More

Spacious room with all basics covered. We called the owner in advance to inform about our arrival time and He was there waiting for us with the keys and answered our questions on an efficient and polite manner. Bus stop very close by with several buses going to the city centre. Nice place for one night sleep, is a guest... More

Me and my daughter stayed here for 2 nights there was no one at all to great u basically u had to ring the phone and then was given instructions about your keys. I found it quite odd really. There was no breakfast available so we had to trapes into the town. The beds were rock hard as were the... More

We found the place, but could not stop out the front. Car park around the back with very difficult access and then we had to drag luggage up the rear lane and around the corner to the front door as there was no rear access. Took a while before front door was answered and when it finally was we felt... More

I visited this guest house with my husband & was quite worried after reading previous reviews! All I will say is, you get what you pay for! Yes the room was dated & a little "rough around the edges". However, at £32 a night, close to Edinburgh city centre & with free WIFI & parking I was pleasantly suprised! During... More

Heard the saying 'You get what you pay for?' That's exactly what you get with The Ivy Guest House. Not due to set off to SCOTLAND until 9am the next morning we decided instead to leave the night before at 5pm due to nice weather and we arrived at 10pm in Scotland. We already had a 2 nights stay booked... More

The room was not properly cleaned. The bedsheets and Duvet covers were full of some kind of fibres or cat hair and at one point I noticed a blood stain. The shower made this horribly loud sound. The bathroom was not en suite which was awkward. when we entered the hotel it was smelled of oily food. The stairs were... More

I'd booked this as it was in a reputable guide and had parking and I wanted to avoid a chain hotel. First there was no one at the guest house on arrival, high ceilings don't excuse a cramped room for three, and as for the parking - well if I was driving a Hillman Imp, there was room. I baulked... They say first impressions are paramount. These people need a lesson. The garden was overgrown and hadnt been tended to for at least a year. It wasn't to get any better. Given a room without en suite. The bathroom was across the hallway. We asked for a quiet room and was given one on the road side. The place was... More

The guest house is close to a bus station. When we arrived a bit earlier before check-in, the room was ready and the lady owner let us in just by a phone call, which was nice. At first, we felt like walking in a nice 'vintage' hotel. Yes, the furniture was old and looked stylish indeed! However, it was very... More
