For everyone who will stay in August in Edinburgh: DON’T BOOK THIS HOSTEL. There are a lot of hostels who are better and cheaper than this! I booked this hostel in October, for a 2 weeks stay this August. I booked from the website of Booking.com. Way I booked so far in advance? Just because of the great discount they... More

I really enjoyed my stay at this hostel. However, a complete review means I need to share the negatives as well as the positives. Positives: - FANTASTIC location; easy walk to the Royal Mile, the train station, Princes Street, and buses that will take you just about anywhere else that you want to go (including the express bus to/from the... This hostel exceeded my expectations! Beds were nice and comfortable, clean amenities, decent breakfast, free wifi and great staff members. Checked in at 9pm and the staff member was very efficient! Best hostel I've stayed at so far! I loved the location, it was a short walk into town but i prefer being slightly out, get too see more.

I loved staying in this hostel! It's got a very intimate feel as it's quite a small, tucked-away place-- but in a terrific location in the old town. The bedding was soft and comfortable, toilet and shower areas were spacious and clean, the live-in staff are super friendly and helpful, and the view of the old town out the window... More

Excellent place to stay with everything you need for a very reasonable price. The guys that work there were wonderful, so helpful and genuine. Breakfast is decent, good selection of basics. Bathrooms are big and clean with nice dumper showers. Would definitely recommend this hostel.

Stayed here for three nights in July 2014 including the World Cup final night. Beds were comfy, showers were clean and super hot. Noise from the bar can come up, especially on the busy nights and the breakfast wasn't anything to write home about. The wifi was also good and they have good food specials at the bar. Desk staff... We came to Malones for a place to lay our heads for the duration of our mates stag do. What we got was a place we actually totally wanted to hang out full of friendly characters and helpful staff. The manager was approachable, honest and fair, even through some slight issues with the room (for which we were instantly reimbursed... More

The guy told us that he had sent us an "email" about our booking being cancelled. When we asked him to show the email ,he obviously couldn't. In... More

Perfect place to stay if you're on a budget. Very tidy hostel with good kitchen facilities even for a longer stay. Felt very safe and the location is so good in Old Town, within a walking distance to basically everywhere. Staff were extremely nice and helpful.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
