Malone's is one of these places that I consider a hidden gem. It is local to all the attractions and easy to get to. There is a pub right under it, and you get discounts on food and drinks. Once I got there I was welcomed and told all the rules. The room (shared) was great, clean and tidy. And... More

Clean-ish . Friendly. Well located in terms of sights to see if you're there as a tourist. Bed wasn't made when I arrived/someone in the dorm had put their stuff on the bed and made it a mess. But generally good. Breakfast basic but good.

The location is really ok. The hostel is managed in a very friendly way and with the right spirit. In Edimburgh it's my place for drinking (at the pub in the same building you can also ear live music) and than sleeping.

To be honest, this was probably one of my favorite hostel to stay however safety/security sucks. My room was at the first floor next to the reception and it was always unlocked (I think this fault is on other people staying in the same room). People say the staff is awesome here. I'm like where the hell are they. They... More

If you are looking for an inexpensive, well-located option, this is a decent choice. It is your standard youth hospital. The beds are comfy and the staff is super nice. We had a four-person room so bedding was included, towels were not.

Was very well located, everythibg was close to the hostel, and the staff were amazing with us! We have a lot of fun in this hostel! I obviously would return! For my friends birthday they give us the chance to stay in the kitchen late to celebrate.. So don't doubt to stay there!

We enjoyed our stay at Malone's hostel which has a really good location in the Old Town of Edinburgh ! The thing is that we'd been doing a road trip all around Scotland and Malone's hostel was our last stop. And even if it's a youth hostel, I was not really impressed with the cleanliness of the premises (compared to... More

Good hostel to stay a few nights in the city centre. It was clean, good bathrooms and good rooms with a good ventilation. Even they have a pub downstairs so do not worry if you get drunk! enjoy your stay there.

I needed a short notice booking, and this was one of the last places available in town. The rooms weren't bad, but I've stayed in better. Staff was super friendly though, and the location is close to everything.

The Malone's hostel is a wonderful place to stay if you want to visit Edinburgh. It's close to the center and the castle. The staff is adorable and very competent. The price is cheap, the service is great I recommends this hostel

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
