Hotel location great, rooms are very worn, damp on the walls, sheets do not fit the bed. The shower broke on our second morning and I had to wait 45 minutes, half showered before management could allow me to use another room. The breakfast is expensive (go to the cafe on the corner instead). I wouldn't return.

Good location, warm welcome and the breakfast was fine - not huge but adequate. Room left a little to be desired - generally clean but just too small -- could not have stayed in it for longer. Enjoyed the little bar area.

My family of 7 adults had the most memorable time in Edinburgh and a contributory factor to that was our accommodation at the Piries Hotel. The location was central and a walking distance from Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile. The beds were clean and comfortable and the service was good too. I would recommend this to anyone who visits... More

A basic but comfortable hotel. We just needed an overnight stay. It's within walking distance of Princes Street and very close to Haymarket Station. There's a tram stop close by too. The room had everything we needed and was clean. The beds were rather soft for my liking but it was one night. The breakfast was also basic but perfectly... More

We arrived first to leave our luggage and when we came back to check in. There was nobody at the desk. We waited for about 5 minutes before a guy showed up. Check in then was quick and smooth and we were also upgraded to a bigger room. The room was nice, very spacious. The toilet was very clean and... More

So firstly, this hotel is reasonable priced, 3 nights for 2 people was about £130. It is located about a 20 minute walk from the city centre / Princes Street area. So in my view a good location and good value. The hotel itself is Clean and tidy enough. Yes there's the odd lightbulb out and it's not brand new,... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
