We came to Edinburgh for a family visit and chose the pirie hotel because we thought it would be a quaint hotel in the old style of Scottish buildings high ceilings and space. Instead we had a small cramped room with cropped ceilings! The bed was the most uncomfortable thing I have ever had the misfortune to sleep on,i suffer... More

Stayed here with my two grandsons just for one night. We were in Room 32, which has 2 twin beds and a double sofa bed. A large spacious room, and a modern bathroom. This hotel is clean, comfortable and the staff very friendly and helpful, giving you maps, which bus number to get, etc Has a small but we'll stocked... More

Enjoyed our stay there. A very cosy hotel with a clean room and nice interior. Very friendly staff. Not far from the city centre - just a 10 minute walk to Princess street. The only problem was with wi-fi. We had to pay for it (that's okay - 2 pounds for 24h of use) but it was not possible to... More

Arrived and a bit of mixup for room, I think I errored but front desk gentleman said it was him. We initially got room 5 with 2 single beds, when I went up to ask for double bed he then gave us room 50. Small but adequate for our 2 days here. Very clean with I think a newer carpet.... More

Stayed here for one night may 2015. Rooms really comfortable and clean. Bathroom really clean and modern. Staff friendly, we were doing the half marathon and they arranged early morning transport for our party. Would definitely stay again.

The Piries Hotel in Edinburgh is in a great location, not far from the Haymarket transit station and a nice hike to Centre City Edinburgh. The hotel is comprised of several old apartment buildings. Each of the buildings has a separate entrance from the street. We found our room to be satisfactory...a reasonable compromise between cost and location. My disappointment... More

Dear Rick M, Thank you for you review. I understand your disappointment for the lack of knowledge about car park facilities; the nearest one is 10/15 minutes walk to the hotel which could be difficult to reach for tourists. I am sure all the staff have this information. Unfortunately Edinburgh is not a car-friendly city. We sincerly apologise for the... More

I first stayed at this hotel in early April as I needed a place that was close to Haymarket station in order to travel further north in Scotland the following day. I had earlier arrived at Edinburgh airport and used the tram system to get to the hotel. The tram stops outside Haymarket station and the hotel is a two... More

Arrived with friend and told to go back out the hotel down the street and into another part of building. It was very dark and gloomy not a nice place on 1st impressions. Eventually got into room and that although was clean it was very gloomy and unwelcoming. Yes it's cheap but we couldn't stay and booked in else where.

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
