The Thistle was well placed for my business meeting, but a little further from the town than I would have liked if not staying on business. The reception/bar staff are great - so helpful and lovely even though they seem to cover a variety of job roles in one. The bed was so comfortable and I normally struggle sleeping in... More

We stayed for my daughter's wedding and for a few days after to explore Edinburgh. It is a super location near some main attractions - Modern Art Museum and the Botanical gardens after a good walk. The hotel was clean, well-decorated and welcoming. The staff, both desk and breakfast, was excellent and incredibly helpful with all our enquiries. It will... More

Spent a fantastic 3 days in this beautiful city centre with a friend celebrating 2 "BIG" birthdays!. The Thistle is a lovely small hotel set in the West End of Edinburgh. Far enough away from the noise/bustle of the city centre but not too far to be able to walk to all the major attractions. Annick (the owner) was very... More

I was overwhelmed by the excellent service we received from the hotel staff, nothing was too much trouble and believe you me my colleagues can be quite demanding. Great reasonably priced restaurant. Good location for shopping and visiting the sights.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking time to comment on your stay. However, as we do not have a restaurant on site, you may have reviewed the wrong Thistle Hotel by accident. Kindest regards nonetheless, The Manager. More

Great staff. Not so far way from the main attractions. Breakfast according the hotel level. The room with enough space for 3 people. Good place to spend your time in Edinburgh. The bed linen and bath towels are very worn and stained. The window does not close appropriately and does not have sun blind.

Great staff--very helpful and engaging. The room I had was on the lower level which would not have been my first choice, but it was comfortable and had everything I needed. Also had lots of storage space, so it could work for a longer stay. Breakfast offered lots of options and was served in a cheery room. Just about 15... More

We stayed 3 nights here and enjoyed this hotel. The rooms were comfortable and the staff were wonderful. Breakfast was good, with a nice variety including a scottish breakfast if desired. We would have prefered to be a bit closer into town but overall we liked this place and would stay there again.

Great hotel. Very comfortable beds and the rooms were attractively decorated - You could tell that the hotel is owned by a French woman. The location was perfect, a short walk from the centre of town and the castle and some great restaurants. Would definitely stay here again!

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
