Staff were very hospitable and couldn't be more helpful , room was spacious and the staff provided us with everything we needed for our baby boy e.g brining a microwave in for us and the cot , would definetly go again if staying in Edinburgh.

2 second walk from train station. Close to shopping centres and many food places. Very clean and tidy. Smart and polite staff. Let us keep our bags at hotel in day of checkout while we walked about because our train was not until mid afternoon. Couldnt sleep because the room was like a sauna. Massive fan on ceiling above bed... More

This hotel is in a quiet side street but only 10 minutes walk from Princes Street where there are plenty bars and restaurants. Our room was at the front and was clean with very comfortable bed, en suite shower room and tea making facilities which are very useful after a days shopping. I had the continental breakfast served buffet style... More

Stayed in town for a meal and an evening event and found the Edinburgh Thistle quite convenient, being close to the railway station and local transport. The building is a nice Georgian town house with some elegant features however our executive room needed an urgent makeover. The sofa was grubby, the dressing table had no drawer handles, the heated towel rail... The hotel is about 20 mins from the main shopping area on the city. It is in a nice, quiet street. We stayed there for business and too over every room in the building. Some of the guests were happy with their room, but there were a few problems. Rooms vary in size and the smallest of them are tiny.... More

Stayed 13-14 of January. The hotel is 20 minute walk from Waverly station . Good service from very helpful staff. Stayed in room 20 which is at the front of the building. It was clean & tidy with a decent shower room & a comfortable bed. Enjoyed the continental breakfast. Overall a very pleasant stay.

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
