The Thistle is a short walk from the West End tram stop so easily accessible from the airport and is also a short walk to Haymarket station. We did not have a car but spaces seemed to be available on the road outside. It is outside the main bustle of the City and is thankfully quiet and peaceful at night.... More

Stayed for 2 nights, would not recommend to friends/family. The room size & standard is very basic especially when you compare to the prices. Also, the residents bar closed at 11pm... which meant it was closed before i even returned from the show i was at, in my opinion not late enough especially on a wknd night. Luckily i didnt... More

We were met by an extremely pleasant and helpful clerk at the desk. He walked us to our room, ensured we had everything we needed and was efficient. He offered any services we required with a smile and quick action.... Great job! The room was a good size. It was extremely dated and I would have to say the bathroom... More

I got this hotel mixed up with the Thistle hotel in the city center (not related), and so I accidentally booked the wrong hotel. It was not as close to the city center as I would have liked, but still only about a 20-30min walk away. The hotel did have a few parking spots at an extra charge but you... More

Had a wonderful stay her for 6 nights with my husband, we had a nice king size garden front room. It was so quiet and nice, I loved the original sash windows and the charm of the place, it was a treat to get an actual key and not a plastic thingy. The crown molding and such was super nice.... We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely hotel, which has lots of character and great staff. Neil, the hotel manager, was always available for advice on places to visit and always catered to anything we needed. Greg was always happy and smiling and the rest of the staff did their jobs really well. We would definitely stay at the... More

We had an amazing time at the Thistle Hotel but must warn you that most of the hotels in Scotland don't have elevators so you have to lug you bags up to your room and ours was on the top floor which was not very convenient for us. The only thing that really kept us there was we met Kate... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
