For the money you pay for the Thistle, this place is five star. Sure it is a little bit tired, but the rooms are large and equipped, the area is peaceful and quiet and the staff are friendly and helpful. Short walk to Princess street, early check in and an upgrade, my husband and I were very satisfied with our... More

This was certainly one of the best value deals I could find, but I just don't feel it deserves a 4.5 star Trip Advisor rating. The main positive was that the staff were very pleasant and friendly. The room was clean enough (if I don't split hairs). The decor was a little off putting. The bar/breakfast area was very much... More

Stayed one night on 21 February, booked the thistle due to it being close to the playhouse. Arrived early but checked in straight away, room was nice and clean and bed very comfy. Next time would go for a quite room at the rear as it was extremely noisey till around 4am. Breakfast was nice, would have preferred poached eggs... More

Stayed here a few times now as it always good value, gives good service, has quiet clean rooms, and is in a great location. Only a short stroll from Princes St / Castle etc but surprisingly quiet and with easy parking (on street metered, but not expensive for where you are, and easy with RingGo). Not palatial or fancy, but... More

We had a great stay, The staff were so welcoming and helpful. The breakfast was excellent and the rooms were spacious and lovely. There was free WiFi which worked and was very fast. The hotel bar was a perfect stop after a long day out. We will be back to the Edinburgh Thistle Hotel soon.

Traveling here from london for a 2 day weekend getaway. Took the tram from airport into city center and was able to walk to this hotel from city center. Friendly staff. Safe secure entrance that is locked down. Nice area. Well worth it and not overpriced.

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
