Very spacious executive rooms with great bathrooms and very comfortable beds, but the air-con was set too cool and nothing would warm it up at all. Absolutely brilliant, multilingual staff. Nice, small pool and excellent steam room and bubble-tub. Delicious but super-unhealthy cooked breakfast, could do with many fresher and healthier options. But essentially a good base, central and convenient.

One of the best hotels I have stayed!! The accommodations were just the best, super comfortable beds, super clean, bathrooms had everything you need, so spacious. With a Nespresso machine in our room feeling exceptional 😜. The pool were just fantastic, the luxury jacuzzi was a lot of fun when on. Great for families, the family-employees make everything to make... More

Novotel really know how to recruit and train their staff; every experience we have had with them has been excellent and Edinburgh was no exception. Hotel and pool area is very clean. Good location. We had a suite, which was lovely with a little balcony with table and chairs. Good breakfasts, plenty of selection. Can't fault it. Hope to come... More

Here as a family for the Edinburgh fringe and Tattoo this hotel was perfectly positioning, no more than 10 minutes walk to wherever we needed. Lots of local supermarkets to help with in room nibbles, nice little pool, jacuzzi & gym on site with very friendly staff. Will definitely return.

We have never stayed in a hotel on this side of the castle before but would definitely do so again. You do need to take a taxi from Waverly station as the journey is all uphill and takes about 15 mins.Warm welcome from staff, we stayed in a superior twin room, which was on the first floor,no probs with street noise,... We stayed at this hotel on a recent guided tour of Scotland. You can't pick a better place to stay if you are attending the Edinburgh Military Tattoo or just visiting the castle. It is an easy walk to the castle and attractions on the Royal Mile and High Street. If you want to travel a bit further, the hotel... More

This is one of the best hotels we have stayed in. The staff are some of the best we have met. Always friendly, helpful with a smile on their faces. Nothing was too much trouble. The updated bedding with memory foam matteress was great for a good nights sleep. Easy walk in to Princess Street and the tour bus stops... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
