As part of the Le Club Accor we are upgraded to the next room type free of charge if there are rooms available upon check in, sadly there was not any available for the first night but for the subsequent two nights there were. Happily we agreed to a room change on the second night. The rooms themselves are of... More

Stay here around twice a year but oh my....is there a different atmosphere now with the arrival of Sabby (no ordinary cocktail maker). Things just got a whole lot better in this hotel bar. This guy is passionate about his work & is the most talented & entertaining cocktail maker I've ever seen. You certainly won't be disappointed. Forget cocktails...he... More

Firstly, the staff at the Novotel Central Edinburgh are great. They are friendly, helpful, cheerful and a pleasure to deal with. A special mention to the gentlemen in the restaurant bar with glasses, his personality and approach was heads and shoulders above the rest. In addition the bar atmosphere has a great vibe, with the interactive tables being great fun... More

I was a little disappointed with the room which looked rather tired. Blackened stains could be seen round the air ducts and the shower curtain was stained brown (see pictures). I was annoyed to be given a disabled room. The basin was way too low for me. Bed was comfortable and breakfast was Ok.

Stayed here for one night while visiting Edinburgh. Really nice, clean hotel with friendly, professional staff. Breakfast was good in the morning with the usual cooked items and a great continental selection too. Room was a bit strange in that there was no sink in the same room as the toilet as there was one round the corner where the... More

If you want to get woken up by a knock at your door at almost 11pm and followed by a call to ask if you've order room service, then do go ahead and book this hotel. All they can offer is an apology afterwards and leave you with trouble to fall back to sleep again. Their restaurant is pretty poor.... More

We had a wonderful stay at Novotel. Room was upgraded to executive suite with a castle view and lived up to the hotel grade. We ate dinner at the hotel before going out and the steak was just as good as many of the extravagant city eateries. Breakfast was included in our room rate and again, was of a great... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
