The only good thing about this hostel is its location. Was really overpriced and shared facilities were minimal. For a hostel they really need to start improving as there are so many more of better quality. No real fun zones either. No bar, small hang out area.

This hostel is in an excellent location, only a few minutes walk from the Royal Mile! The rooms are in the apartment building next to the reception office. We stayed in a four bed room that overlooked the beer garden across the street. The room was spacious and comfortable. There are three toilets and two showers shared by the rooms... More

Location of the hostel is fantastic, with royal mile so close, and bars & pubs for nightlife just in the opposite way of the street (eg, Brewdog pub). Guys, if you are young and you need a place cheap (10pounds/night) and you want to stay in the center of the scene of the city center, well this is totally your... More

As far as I'm concerned some of the bad reviews here are over-exaggerating. I stayed in an 8 bed dorm at the end of Jan 2015 and it certainly wasn't filthy. One of the beds in the dorm was quite squeaky, and we did notice that one of the frames was propped up with a piece of wood, but the... More

nice location given that it is city centre edinburgh. The staff are amazing, free internet and low prices.they stored my bags for a week once for free which was so nice of them. they offer long term rate and its safe as the doors have a code and keys. the cleaners could barge in however and although very clean i... Great location and nice staff but apart from that this hostel is thoroughly grubby and run down. The walls, sheets and towels all had various staining. The curtains fell off the railing as soon as touched. The beds were uncomfy and pretty rickety. Finally the showers were terrible, water trickling out and not even lukewarm water. We were extremely disappointed... More

Stayed here with a group of 10 for a Stag do. We're used to roughing it having been many trips for football and rugby trips, often staying in hostels. This place is filthy dirty. Rooms not cleaned after last occupants. Blood stains on sheets. Trickle of a shower. Cobwebs and dirt everywhere. Do not stay here!

Reception was very friendly, can't say anything bad. The room however looked unclean and we first checked the beds before we slept in them. I felt the need of taking a shower but took one while wearing crogs. My friend's skipped the shower as it looked disgusting. (Shared by 12? Others!) Hostels are great in Scotland but definately not recommanded... More

This is the worst place I've stayed in any city in the UK. The place is over-priced to begin with, considering it is a backpackers hostel and not a B and B. It is absolutely freezing inside, in the time we spent in our room before heading out to town we had to keep our coats on. The shared toilet... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
