Stayed for three nights in a wonderful and authentic Georgian architecture. Florence was a warm and engaging host. Address was well place with easy access to centre of Edinburgh. Access to beautiful gardens. Well recommended.

My wife and I came to A Georgian Residence for my birthday due to its reasonable pricing and good reviews as well as its proximity to the centre of Edinburgh (5 mins walk from rose street). Breakfast included, huge room. Would come back in a heartbeat. Only thing I'd improve is a better shower. Host was fantastic and always friendly... More

A delightful Georgian town house in the graceful Moray Place. This place is ideally placed for peace and quiet but is only a short stroll from all the entertainment, shopping and galleries that Edinburgh has to offer. Florence is an attentive and helpful host. Breakfast is excellent; cooked to order from an extensive menu and served around a large table... More

Gorgeous place to stay. Florence is a lovely host, the breakfasts are good and its only a shirt walk into the city centre. The one draw back I had was the shower in our room clearly wasn't meant for anyone over 6ft tall. But I maintain... That was the only draw back!

I loved the location and the house, a typical Georgian house in a great area right between the New Town, Old Town, Dean Village and Stockbridge....basically everything was just one step away! Mrs Florence is a great host. Very helpful and friendly. I'm sure she will offer it herself, but if not, ask her the key for the private garden... More

I booked a visit to this guest house back in June. I booked it based on the reviews. On arrival we were greeted to the owner peering from an upstairs balcony asking us to come up. We were handed our keys and shown to our room by her assistant. We were also shown where the dining room was, however that... More

My fiancé & I had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful guest house for a week during the fringe festival & what a pleasure it was. Beautiful house, fantastic location (10 mins walk to the main shops, 20 to Royal mile area) & a yummy hot breakfast cooked fresh to set us up for the day every morning. Florence... More

This is a delightful bed and breakfast in a beautiful Georgian residence. Florence, the hostess and owner, is wonderful, so helpful and kind. Our room was very spacious with a lovely view. Breakfast was delicious; you can order what you like. We so enjoyed sitting with other visitors in the dining room and sharing interesting conversation. Moray Place is a... More

Very friendly owner. Wonderful breakfast. Great location. The room was spacious with an ensuite. Comfortable accommodations. The area is easy to navigate with many options for food and shopping. Access to two beautiful private gardens is a plus.

Don't stay here if you want a smart modern impersonal hotel. Do stay here if you want a large comfortable room in a quiet but central location. Breakfast is individually made not a tired buffet. There is one large table so a great opportunity to meet other guests. Food is served on bone china with silver cutlery. We have stayed... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
