Don't stay here if you want a smart modern impersonal hotel. Do stay here if you want a large comfortable room in a quiet but central location. Breakfast is individually made not a tired buffet. There is one large table so a great opportunity to meet other guests. Food is served on bone china with silver cutlery. We have stayed... More

We stayed here for a long weekend and had a wonderful time. The location is excellent, being very quiet but within an easy walk of Princes Street. Florence, the owner, is a very gracious hostess and made sure we were happy with our room. She gave us a small bunch of keys and explained which one was for which door.... More

This is my second time staying at A Georgian Residence. It is a perfect base for Edinburgh Fringe, away from the crowds, but close enough to walk to the events or hail a taxi. Breakfast is superior to most B & Bs. Fresh fruit salad, smoked haddock and a properly poached egg--heaven! There was a great variety of breakfast selections.... More

Moray Place is a great location in Edinburgh but ----- it is past it's prime. The beds are uncomfortable, the bathroom very small, pillows smelled like someone else's head, pealing wallpaper. Breakfast was adequate but obviously used cheap products (butter, bread, etc). And our bedroom was 5 flights up. So disappointed! Would not recommend - you would be better off... More

My wife and I stayed here for three nights and left feeling really happy with our stay. We had a room that was on the top floor which did involve climbing 70 odd steps, but the view over parts of Edinburgh and the Firth of Forth made it worthwhile. In actual fact this part of the residence is not just... More

Really enjoyed our stay here, the rooms were so beautiful with lovely moldings and skylights in the stair wells. Breakfast was delicious, I ended up having the vegetable and cheese omelet every day I was there because it was so good. The area around the house is all Georgian homes and very interesting. The location is also very good, not... More

Lovely location in the city of Edinburgh and within walking distance to the hop on hop off bus lines. Florence is a wonderful host, offering suggestions to do in the city while serving you a scrumptious breakfast. I would definitely recommend the Georgian Place to any traveller in Edinboro. There is no lift, so if you have an issue with... More

One of the most interesting experience that I've had. The owner of the B&B, Florence, is lady from Scotland who is hospitable and really kind, which made everything perfect. The room was enormous and very comfortable, they put biscuits, chocolates and tea in your room everyday. Also, we had a amazing view. The breakfast was delicious and hand made. The... More

An excellent B&B in a lovely quiet location in the New Town just a relatively short walk to the city centre. The house is a wonderful Georgian building furnished in the regency style with character and interest. We were on the top floor which although in the roof space was spacious and comfortable. Florence is a lovely hostess who takes... More

At the end of our Schotland castle tour we stayed here three nights after we dropped off our car at the airport rental. At walking distance from the new tram in Princess Street. We had the two room suite on the fourth floor (5 outside and 73 inside stair steps), consisting of a bedroom 18m2, bathroom 4m2 and sitting room... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
