My daughter and I have just returned from a two night break which included dinner for the first night. The entrance to the hotel is impressive however this does not reflect the standard of the rest of the hotel. We were allocated room 216 and after exiting the lift we noticed how 'tired' looking the dark corridor appeared. Our room... More

Beautiful views from our room, the staff is exceptionally helpful ( Geeta thank you for the suggestions re: Guillianos the food was excellent!) and the 10% off was a bonus! Dining room staff are genuinely sweet. The rooms are clean and water pressure a nice surprise! This hotel super close to the castle and shopping centres also the train station.... More

Like previous reviewers I felt conned out of my hard earned cash after buying 4 group on vouchers for me and 3 family members. I also felt embarrassed as one of us were taken up 3 floors to an unused hotel room, fully lit for her massage. My "masseuse" talked all the way through mine I knew more about her... More

I have just completed my second visit to the Carlton Hotel. There are many positive features about this hotel with only one or two negatives. First the positives. The main one has to be the location. You cannot do much better in terms of central location, sandwiched on North Bridge between Waverley Station and the Royal Mile. The staff are... More

I got a groupon voucher to the value of £150 as a present for my birthday so my partner and I booked In for 12 pm on Tuesday. We had been looking forward to it in weeks but were very disappointed. You have to book in for a time slot so I phoned to book in and was given 12pm... More

We booked this through a deal site. The twin bed accomodation was spacious and clean and comfortable. The hotel also had swimming pool and spa facilities which were good. Only downside was the breakfast. This was not included in our deal therefore we had to pay separately for this. It was overpriced and not value for money....in fact altogether disappointing.

My friends and I had a day out at the Leisure & Spa facilities in the Carlton for my 50th birthday. We were so looking forward to a day of rest and relaxation and we were sorely disappointed. Granted we booked it through Groupon and got a cheaper deal but this, in my opinion, should not reflect on the service... More

Stayed at The Carlton Hotel in Edinburgh last night. Hotel is great location for princess street and royal mile. We were upgraded to a premium room on arrival which we were very happy about. Our room was immaculate and decor was nice. There was no air con in room which was disappointing when room was too warm, also very cold... More

A joke of a hotel. We arrived on the first night to find our non smoking room reeking of cigarette smoke. The hotel was fully booked so we couldn't change rooms, but were told we could change rooms for the second night. This was until the hotel reneged on their promise, saying the hotel was fully booked the following night... More

Stay here every time I go to Edinburgh for the weekend. Rooms are dated but the hotel is so conveniently located, and the staff are so nice that you can allow for a bit of a need for an update. Fab brekkies and nice spa. Gym is VERY hot but useable. Only reason I've not scored it higher is that... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
