My daughter and I stayed here in August last year for 2 nights when we visited Edinburgh for The Tattoo. We arrived early and was able to leave our luggage in the hotel whilst we headed into town before checking in. The staff all very friendly and helpful. We booked For 2 nights bed and breakfast. Breakfasts were great, ample... More

The 4 star rating is undeserved.( I wonder how often the star ratings are revieweD The old-fashioned sash -cord windows couldn't stay open (double glazing and efficient air conditioning would befit a 4 star hotel) Only one clean bathroom towel was replaced in a room of double occupancy (Unprofessional receptionist) One of the receptionists didn't know where The Festival Theatre... Booked a weekend stay at this hotel, choose mainly for its location as we were going to the Tattoo. On arrival they allocated us a double room, we had booked a twin, a visit to the reception and this was quickly sorted. The room was large with a window overlooking the Royal Mile. As we were out late into the... More

The Carlton is in a superb location , central for all that Edinburgh has to offer, particularly during the annual Festival in august. As a result, however, it is extremely expensive for the experience offered . It has a superb modern spa and health club facility, but this countered by the "tired" state of the guest bedrooms , including the... More

The hotel is in right smack in the middle of the city. 10 minute walk from when you get off the bus coming from the airport. My room was huge and the bed was a King sized bed that was super comfortable. I liked this hotel. Great value for what you get.

Ideally situated at the top end of North Bridge, it makes the old and new towns very accessible. As club members we were entitled to an upgrade, but one was not available as the hotel was full. Fair enough, but we had to ask every day for our free water and newspaper. Reception staff were very helpful and friendly, however.... More

Believe the bad reviews, this is NOT a four star hotel. Upon arrival, our room for two had only one set of towels which is fine, no big deal. After the second set of towels was brought up, a mouse appeared from under the bed and ran into the corner. It popped out shortly after before going back into hiding.... More

2 visit here in 12 mths and what a difference a year makes. Our room was at the front of the hotel, and this gave us the pleasure of 24 hr noise!! And very loud noise at that. The room badly needed refurbishment , and had the most off putting odour. This required a deep clean which was done whilst... More

The location is great especially as we were in Edinburgh solely for the Fringe Festival. We had a room looking out to the sea which was nice. Room was large with plenty of room for our bags. Even though it was cold in Edinburgh at this time (14c in the day) our room was quiet stuffy and warm. The Aircon... More

The Carlton is a stately old hotel located just off Royal Mile/High St in Edinburgh. We had the corner room on the top floor (533) and when we entered we thought we had won a lottery. The room was large, had plenty of storage and places for bags. There was a sitting area with table and two overstuffed arm chairs... More
