We stayed at this hotel for 6 nights. We are from the US and commonly travel domestically at 4 star hotels. The hotel has many pluses and few negatives. First, we cannot comment on the nicer of two restaurants within the hotel. Second, if you are from the US and expect a US size hotel room, you will be disappointed.... More

The hotel is located in an excellent location. Everything we did and needed was within walking distance. The staff was extremely helpful and the restaurant served one of the best meals we had in Scotland. The hotel itself is a bit dated and the hallways are dark but we loved the room and the breakfast was top notch. The hotel... More

We were a family group attending a graduation. Our rooms were a reasonable size, two queen size beds Comfy with lots of pillows. No air con. Either a walk in shower or shower over bath You may want to specify. Hotel is on the Grassmarket in the heart of tourist Edinburgh. E d.ess attractions within walking distance. If you are very... This hotel is in the heart of the grassmarket which was ideal for us. We were in a room that looked out on to the back so noise was no issue at all but sadly the view wasn't great. The room itself was a great size and the bed was really big and super comfortable. The hotel staff were very... More

I booked this hotel due to it's location to Edinburgh Castle and it showing as being disabled friendly. So yes, location wise, perfect. However, being in a wheelchair, this is NOT a disabled friendly hotel. Entrance to the hotel, if in a wheelchair, is up a step ramp to the side of the hotel, then once inside the building, to... My husband and I finished our last 2 nights in Scotland at the Apex International Hotel Edinburgh. We stayed in a budget hotel in Edinburgh for our first 3 nights and a budget/boutique hotel in Glasgow for 3 more nights. Our first two hotels met or exceeded our expectations for various reasons. I cannot say the same of this hotel.... More

Stayed here for one night in May. Lovely hotel, clean room and fab location in the Grassmarket. We got upgraded on arrival to a room with a view of the Castle. Staff at reception very friendly. Didn't have time to try the rest of the facilities or breakfast as we decided to eat out so can't comment on these. However... More

Having stayed at the Apex City of London and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, we thought we'd give the Apex International a try. It did not disappoint. The staff are friendly and helpful, the breakfasts are very good and the location is ideal. I understand that some have complained about street noise, but they clearly did not do their homework. With... More

A warm welcome in the heart of Edinburgh by friendly reception staff. My wife had to make a conference call and the reception organised a room for an hour at no charge and allowed us an extra half hour at checkout time. Also simple matters like aiding with a carpark space made the trip a pleasure instead of a chore.

we came here for only 24 hours, but were delighted at the central location and amenities at the hotel. It was exceptional, I would highly recommend it if you are visiting Scotland. Also, Edinburgh in general is just magical. Go.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
