The staff were very friendly and check-in was swift. There was some initial confusion as a family with the same surname (not a common one) had also booked, and it was only whilst filling in the registration card that I noticed that it was for a couple with children. The room was large and comfortable with a good sized bathroom... More

We've stayed previously at this hotel and chose it again mainly due to it's location and pretty good reviews. The location in Grassmarket is ideal for visiting the old town and about a 15 minute walk from Princes Street so all in all pretty central if you don't mind walking up and down hills (difficult to avoid in Edinburgh!!). The... More

Stayed over the final weekend of the fringe here and have to say the location is perfect. Easy walking distance from the Edinburgh Waverley. During breakfast you have an amazing view of the castle. The front desk staff were very helpful and the rooms were more than enough. There was some noise but it was Fringe so expected. Only negatives... More

Where else can you dine with a perfect view of the castle! This hotel is right across the street from the Grass Market in Edinburgh. Rich in history around every corner. The hotel is close to lots of shopping and boasts beautiful large rooms and great service. Loved Scotland :)

We booked very last minute and were greeted by smiley happy staff who looked after our suitcase and delivered it to our room when the room was ready. Our room 1001 had a fab view of the castle and Grassmarket. The room and bathroom was immaculate and we would not hesitate to recommend. We missed out on breakfast as it... More

Amazing views from the room, look straight onto the castle and the grass market. This is where I proposed to my partner and we are massively excited to go there again to celebrate our anniversary. Everything was within walking distance and reasonably priced for a city centre.

Only stayed one night in the hotel. Did not have the chance to use the facilities of the hotel due to time constraint. Was warmly welcomed at the check in counter. The porter has been very fast to help us with the luggage. There is a small flight of stairs leading to the check in desk and another small flight... More

£9.50 for a large glass of wine. Though £1 for a latte. Visited for Edinburgh Festival. That is all. Oh, would benefit from clearer sign for the toilets as you go into kitchen. Nice and clean. Lots of stairs.

I have stayed in Edinburgh many times for business but not here before. It's a good location and nice hotel that says what it does on the tin. It's a bit confusing that two Apex hotels are so close to each other, so you need to tell the taxi driver "international" too and not just Apex. Rooms are fine and... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
