You cannot fault the location, easy to walk to everywhere in Edinburgh. Quiet and comfortable, lotions and drinks provided. Unfortunately despite an inviting large bath we could not use it as the hot tap was jammed despite informing the reception. Breakfast is £10 each on top of accommodation. Plenty of other places to eat cheaper nearby though. There is also... More

We stayed at this hotel as it is within walking distance of just about everything Edinburgh. Great room, great included breakfast. Very helpful, smiling staff. Lots of nearby restaurants. We were there for the Tattoo, so it was VERY busy, the staff found time to chat with just about everyone. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay.

We have stayed at this Hotel for a number of years for the Edinburgh Fringe and Festivals in August. The location is great, with fantastic views of the Castle if you book a Deluxe room with a view, however, the hotel is in need of a make over, it is becoming a little drab compared with other hotels of this... Stayed over four days for our trip to Edinburgh and the Military Tattoo. Beautiful location and central in the Grassmarket neighbourhood. Sightseeing buses stop right out the front which was immensely convenient and plenty of spots to eat or have a pint within a stones throw. Bathrooms were recently renovated and I think this property is due for some more... More

We stayed there in July as a three-generation family of 7. We had rooms on the fourth floor which were clean and serviceable, with views of the castle. It was also great being right on Grassmarket, where we could take the family to lunch and dinners. the breakfasts on the top floor overlooking the castle were very good. In fact,... More

Booked a castle view room and was pleasantly surprised with a small balcony overlooking Haymarket st (rm 4025). The provided earplugs concerned me at first but we did not need them as it was fairly quiet although if you go to bed earlier than 10-11 then it might have been louder (this was during fringe/tattoo). Bathroom was nice and a... More

Great location, very close to the castle and main attractions. Rooms were a good size and clean. The breakfast and views from the top floor restaurant are great. Rooms at the front overlook the Grassmarket which was noisy until the early hours with numerous bars and cafes, so the hotel provided ear plugs may come in handy for the light... More

I stayed here earlier this year and was pleasantly surprised by just how good everything was about this hotel. The location is only a short walk away from the city center and looks out on Edinburgh castle (which provides a spectacular view in certain rooms of the hotel) as well as being situated to a multitude of bars and the... Went to Edinburgh for 2 nights. Good location. Room was good. Lovely view of castle. Breakfast was great. Pool and steam room were good but it was a bit strange that the pool had glass that looked onto the main road. People were looking through the glass. Apart from that would stay here again.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
