Can't believe my luck to find Gerald's place which was perfect location and great accommodation at fair price. Breakfast So good and meant I didn't need lunch art on the walls so interesting but paled in comparison with the owner who knew so much and generously shared. I would go again any day and highly recommend

We booked this because of Gerald's personal touch reputation, location and facilities. He was there to meet us with his warmth and hospitality but was called away. His staff was well informed and met our every expectation. Great cozy place to stay. Bill and Janet

Staying at Gerald's Place was like visiting your favorite uncle. Gerald met us at the door with a smile and a hug. He was a fount of information about attractions, providing maps and brochures. The room was extremely comfortable and Gerald though of all the extras including lotion, shampoo, conditioner - everything we could possibly need. We loved Gerald's eclectic... More

We stayed here in December for a wedding. The room was lovely, very warm (it was freezing outside), great location, good price, amazing breakfast, and to top it off, Gerald is a perfect host. Would definitely recommend and hope to return.

This was our second stay at Gerald's Place and our return was not because Gerald, our host, and Gerald, my husband, share a first name. We are lovers of Edinburgh, and Gerald, our host, shared his enthusiasm for his adopted city with us. As walking visitors to Edinburgh, we found the location in the New Town near the City Centre... The measure of a great B&B, to me, is the host, and Gerald is a perfect host! His home is warm and inviting, and the pictures covering his walls reflect not only his love of art, but also his love of his family, which to me says a lot about a person. Gerald obviously loves his city and country as... More

'GERALD IS THE PERFECT HOST!" As I once told a kind guest, there is only one happening here that is perfect .... and that is .... your lovely lady wife - and all joined in, in merriment and with good humour. Nevertheless, I do thank 960perry for her generous title, and review : to be a good host to all... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
