the reason i titled my review "home sweet home" is because that is exactly how myself and three other friends felt when we stayed at Gerald's wonderful B&B. the rooms were spacious and comfy, the house is adorable and located in a beautiful section of the city, making it easy for us to walk all over edinburgh and look forward... After a warm greeting, Gerald spent time acquainting us with Edinburgh and insisted that we rest up before beginning our city adventure. Our room, one of only two,was cozy, warm, clean and comfortable with a private bathroom. Plenty of pamphlets to assist us in getting around. The B & B was chock full of interesting art work, photographs, and collectibles... More

Gerald's Place is a small B & B in Edinburgh, conveniently located near city bus routes or within walking distance of town for the physically fit. The host was very helpful in arranging Greyline day trips & providing local bus information. The guest room was small but adequate. There was no room for a comfortable reading chair, so returning from... More

We stayed in Gerald's cozy private home. It was a 10 minute walk to the castle and all the main points in town. The rooms were cozy, clean and quiet. Jennifer took such great care of us and cooked us a wonderful breakfast each morning. We had a bottle of scotch, a great bottle of wine, Walker's cookies, and Italian... More

We had a lovely stay with Gerald. It was comfortable like staying with family. The room was clean and quiet. The location was in a great area for sightseeing and out of the general busy area of Edinburgh. Gerald was helpful with things to see and do while in Scotland.

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
