Gerald's Place is a charming and wonderfully convenient Bnb from which to visit the city. Gerald is delightful and knowledgeable and has many good recommendations for activities and restaurants. The neighborhood itself provides a fine place for walking, eating, shopping, and museum browsing--in short, making us feel less like tourists and more like locals. We would definitely stay there again.

This was my second stay at Gerald's Place, and I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Edinburgh. The location is perfect - Abercromby Place is quiet, but just a few blocks from the heart of New Town, art galleries, museums, and the train. It is an easy walk to Old Town or to the botanic gardens and Dean's Village. Breakfast... More

We had 3 nights in this lovely B&B, well situated and the atmosphere was perfect. In this B&B, the Bed was big and comfortable, the Breakfast was giant, really and well prepared by the nice Michelina. We had lots of discussion during the breakfast and we felt like we were home.

It has all been said by others before us, but the warm welcome, the attention to every detail in the bedroom, the superb organic-food breakfasts, the convenient location all add up to Gerald's place being an outstanding choice for visitors to Edinburgh. One of the most outstanding B&Bs I've ever stayed at. It’s really cosy and homely. It’s also at a good location – only about 10minutes’ walk to Edinburgh Castle. Gerald also provided a lot of useful travel advice on Edinburgh and generally.

"OUTSTANDING B&B, AND GERALD REALLY MAKES YOU FEEL AT HOME" thanks Georgina from Sydney, for your beautiful review - your comments are truly appreciated : a long time ago I might have made it to the Castle [chasing you perhaps] in 10 minutes, but today a fairer time would be 5 minutes longer - it's quite a huff for seniors... Can't believe my luck to find Gerald's place which was perfect location and great accommodation at fair price. Breakfast So good and meant I didn't need lunch art on the walls so interesting but paled in comparison with the owner who knew so much and generously shared. I would go again any day and highly recommend

We booked this because of Gerald's personal touch reputation, location and facilities. He was there to meet us with his warmth and hospitality but was called away. His staff was well informed and met our every expectation. Great cozy place to stay. Bill and Janet

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
