Well, it may be called 'Edinburgh First' but it is actually the Pollock Halls - as anyone will tell you, these are the biggest and best of Edinburgh University's halls of residence. Spent a weekend here with a group of guys and it was ideal for our requirements. About 5 minutes by taxi from the train station. Rooms are basic but have en-suite and tv. Our room had two single beds and was clean and functional. Also 24 hour reception if you are out late. Breakfast was particularly good for the price.... more

We knew going in that it was going to be a dorm type setting, so we weren't expecting very much but it's hard to write any sort of glowing review because they were renovating everywhere! This hotel is a great base for visiting Edinburgh. We came by motorbike and it is a very safe place to leave a vehicle as it has a manned entrance and plenty of parking space. Don't go there! Edinburgh First's website leads you to believe that you will be staying in their conference facilities. You actually get to stay in halls of residence which are VERY basic.
