This hotel is a great base for visiting Edinburgh. We came by motorbike and it is a very safe place to leave a vehicle as it has a manned entrance and plenty of parking space. The room was spacious and very clean with a good hospitality tray, hairdryer and tv. The breakfast is served in a separate building, directly opposite,... more

Basic (and a bit run down) rooms, but clean. The rooms are part of a large complex in the university. Staff are very friendly. Didn't get a chance to sample the breakfast. Not a very central location, and takes abt 15-20 minutes to the Royal Mile area by bus. Overall recommendation would be to look for something more central if... more

Don't go there! Edinburgh First's website leads you to believe that you will be staying in their conference facilities. You actually get to stay in halls of residence which are VERY basic. We paid just under 90GBP a night for a room and it wasn't worth it at all. The first room we were given was terrible - it was... more

I was under no delusions about what this accommodation would be like. It's the University of Edinburgh dormirtories so I knew the space would be basic. I ended up here because at the last minute I decided to make an overnight trip to The Fringe and this was the only affordable accommodation left. The distance from the heart of Edinburgh... more

I think in the first instance it IS important to explain about my stay. I had bought tickets to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo and those of you who visit Edinburgh during this time will always find accommodation booked up well in advance, expensive and generally a minimum 2 night stay. Therefore it is pretty much the same as people have... more

We stayed here for 2 nights in July. I chose this place merely based on price and you get what you pay for. These are basic dorm rooms. The location is a bit off the path but within a 20 minute walk to downtown. The experience was not like a hotel at all but rather like staying in a college... more

We stayed at Pollack Halls (part of the Edinburgh First lodgings) as the first night of our recent UK trip. I can't recommend it highly enough! For perhaps half the price of any of the decent central hotels, we stayed in a double room with ensuite bath. It's small, but clean and modern. There's a nice, hot breakfast included (all... more

Considering everything in Edinburgh (As in the rest of the UK) is frighteningly expensive, this provides a value for money alternative. the rooms are small but clean and serviced regularly. There are laundry, canteen and library facilities and overall the place has a nice feel. its a long walk from the city centre (15 minutes) but you can get a... more

We stayed at First at Edinburgh University during the festival in August. It was booked by someone else in our party of six and was about the only place still available that didn't hike its prices up or demand a two night minimum stay in Edinburgh in August. It is a halls of residence and is exactly as you would... more

I have just returned from a three night stay at this hotel and am pretty happy. First off, this is budget accommodation, so don't expect anything fancy. The main purpose for these rooms is as lodgings for university students, and so they are basic. You get a bed, a desk, a wardrobe, a chair. The rooms are not big but... more
