This hotel is in a good, central location. The dining room (and perhaps some rooms) have a view of Edinburgh Castle. There is no elevator, because the building is historic. Our room was a good size overlooking an alley. When taking a shower, it sounded like there was an elephant in the room. I guess it was the mechanism that... More

the stairs are a bit of a downer but the building is old its listed in fact ,the decor in the foyer and stairs is a bit austere ,however the room was very nice ,the shower in the bathroom was new as were most of the fittings .The position of the hotel is ideal for walking to many eateries and... It's a bit disconcerting when you first arrive, there are a few flights of stairs to climb which is difficult with a heavy suitcase. If you use the intercom to call up though, they will help you. Room was big, lots of natural light and very nice. The bathroom was very small, but clean and all renovated recently. The carpets... More

Just a general disappointment when you walked into the Hotel, the smell was of bins, no fresh towels were offered, and to top of the disappointing stay they've took to much money out my account and when ringing up about it they were VERY un helpful, don't take anything the staff say as trustworthy. I'm still waiting for my money.

The Castleview is in an excellent location just off Princes Street and looking down Castle Street to Edinburgh Castle. Rooms are clean and comfortable, breakfasts nicely prepared and the hosts very friendly. But you do need to be able to climb stairs to get to the guesthouse which is on the top floors of a listed building - so no... More

This is a very good Hotel. Lots of stairs but it is an old building. Our room was very good - nice Bathroom and very quiet. The staff are very good and the breakfast menu was also good. We enjoyed our stay as it was very close to all places we wanted to visit by walking. Also near to very... More

As previous reviewers have said, this is a utilitarian hotel. It worked for us. The location is great: next to the tram line to the airport, a short walk from the National Gallery of Scotland, the Castle etc, and also an easy walk from Waverley Station. There are a lot of stairs but we didn't mind. The hotel starts on... More

This is not a fancy hotel. It feels utilitarian - our room (#1) was unadorned and had a view of the alley way. Having said that, it was clean and located in the heart of "New Town" of Edinburgh. Oh, and the morning breakfast offerings were robust - god for starting off a day of walking through this lovely old... More

Has a lot of stairs, not handicapped accessible Central location but, no long term parking nearby Breakfast was good Hotel was clean Staff were good, but felt very impersonal Because of the location there is a lot of street noise and during the night a sound (like a telephone ring) kept happening, wondering if it was the front door access,... I stayed here in 2005 and liked it well enough then, so decided to stay again with my husband in October 2014. Our room was large with comfortable beds. The bathroom was a decent size (oddly thought with a blue light in the shower) and we had good water temperature and pressure. Yes, there are a lot of stairs (no... More
