Stayed for just one night in April. Great location - we arrived by train into Edinburgh Waverley and the hotel was maybe a 20 minute walk (with bags). Easy walk to shopping and the castle the next morning. Room and bathroom were clean. Breakfast was included in our room rate and made to order. Hotel wasn't anything fancy but location... More

Friendly, Clean, nice staff, good breakfast. excellent position only a couple of minutes walk to Princes Street. Nice sheets but the bed was a bit hard as were the pillows. There was no mention on the website that there were 83 stairs up to my room on the top floor!

We stayed at the end of Jan. We wanted to stay an extra night, though when we went to try and organise at reception, we couldnt get anyone to open the door for us. We ended up staying somewhere else and coming back for our official check in. It turns out that the intercom was broken - only way to... More

Stayed here for a weekend in January. One of the cheapest places to stay but that certainly didn't reflect in the quality. We received a warm welcome and was promptly checked in without any fuss. All staff were very courteous and polite. The room was absolutely spotless with a lovely bathroom, free wifi could be reviewed as stuttery really but... More

We were thrilled to have booked this accommodation - three ladies stayed two nights, we took the family room because it gave us more room and a bed each, it was really nice, clean and tidy and we found it quiet and like home from home. The staff were helpful and we certainly did not find them rude or unhelpful... More

After tons of research, I zeroed in on castle view guest house, to spend our first marriage anniversary in an affordable place. After I reach the guest house, I'm told that I can only get the room after 4 pm,( they would give a call once the room is ready) as there's massive renovation going on, this after a 4... More

I stayed here in October 2014 in the week leading up to Halloween with my family and we had a great time. We were on the first floor looking out onto Castle Street. We had a massive family room with large well equipped en suite. The cooked breakfast was filling and they were happy to replace one item with another.... More

We stayed in this hotel at Christmas time, so quite a busy time of year in Edinburgh. Great location looking onto Edinburgh castle in the distance. Right next to George Street (where the good pubs, restaurants and clubs are) are around the corner from Princes Street also. Very central and about a 5/10 minute walk to Edinburgh Waverly Station. The... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
