Came to the Castle View Guest House in late July as part of a trip to Scotland to see the Commonwealth Games. Overall very impressive - breakfast was excellent (pretty much everything you could want for breakfast was made available to us) and allowed for us to switch items between the different hot breakfasts in order to suit our preferences.... Perfectly comfortable although rather small room and despite the stairs. Helpful receptionist carried my bag up the four storeys. Good breakfast although people after me had to queue. Location, just off princes st makes up for minor gripes.

We stayed in the Burns room on the top floor; room faces Castle St. The good: -location, location, location; -the view (the Castle, of course, including fireworks during Tattoo nights) -the size of the room (a double plus 2 singles, large windows, ensuite); -breakfast cooked to order; -apparently the top floor does not hear the noise of late-night pub goers... We booked 4 nights into the Castle View Guest House 2 days before the start of Fringe. The property is on the historical register so the owners CANNOT change anything . They can't fix the HORRIBLY LOUD noise the emanates every time someone uses water in the building (e.g., flush a toilet, take a shower or even turn on the... More

This was the first stop on our UK tour. It was a pretty basic room with lots of stairs, but the location can't be beat. Great view of the castle from the street, lots of shopping and pubs nearby. Room was large and bath was updated.

Stayed here with my wife and our 3 children in the same room for 3 nights. Although this is not my idea of an ideal stay, sleeping in the same room as the kids, the room was spacious enough to accomodate us quite well. The room was clean, which is basically all I expect. The breakfast is ok......basic but nice,... More

The hotel was very comfortable and superbly located. Good facilities, good choices for breakfast, the staff were very helpful and most accommodating of our unexpectedly late arrival. There are a LOT of stairs and no lift. We were prepared for this and in any case had minimal luggage but this could be an important consideration so be warned. Did not... More

We had a room on the reception floor facing the front, room 2. We are a family of 4 and have 2 children and stayed Fri-Mon. The room seemed comfortable enough in size but a little tired, but not really an issue as we anticipated spending all day outside and just putting our heads down here for a good nights... More

We stayed in a room for 4, with our family of 4. The room was recently redone, comfortable, beautiful, and roomy. Impeccably clean! The staff was VERY friendly and helpful. This is a historic building, so there is no elevator. We were on the top floor and Magic, the staff member who checked us in, carried our bags for us!... More

The location was very good, with view of the castle from the sidewalk and street out front of the building. It was conveniently near a bus stop, and multiple shops and food choices within easy walking distance. The four of us women are related and we shared a large room together. Everything was clean and tidy. We really appreciated the... More
