Me and a friend stayed at Castle View Guest House from the 27th until the 28th March. I've made a booking through a booking.com and it was non refundable price of £156 for 2 nights, with the breakfast. The reception is non existing ,in some small storage room ,with no windows so if anything goes wrong, you can't get anyone to help... More

We had been looking forward to our visit to Edinburgh for a long time, and done a lot of research into where to stay, before deciding on The Castle View Guest House. We made our bookings five months in advance. I selected a room suitable for our needs, requested a double bed, and also mentioned that I would really like... More

Stayed in June with my family, no complaints about the rooms, nothing flash but were comfortable and clean and serviced daily. Breakfast room was quaint, the girls serving/cooking were lovely and the food was good. Wifi was good. Location was excellent - walking distance to the train station, old town and plenty of pubs and restaurants in the immediate area.... More

Castle View Guest house is wonderfully located near the robust night-life of Rose Street's pubs and bars, and George Street's elegant restaurants, it serves a better than average breakfast, and the staff are pleasant and efficient. BUT, it sits atop a retail space at ground level, effectively starts at 3rd floor, and has no elevator. How can a property which... More

We stayed here for 1 night following my eldest daughter's graduation. Usually finding a room for 4+ adults is nearly impossible and usually cramped but room 3 here is enormous....2 double and a single bed, with an option of a sofa bed and a fold away bed and still loads of room. Great. Would recommend to a group of friends... More

The hotel is in a quite street, beds were comfortable, the room was nice and clean. Free WiFi and breakfast. Location is good. Manager was awfully accommodating and kept our luggage while we went for a walk, waiting for our late train to leave.

Clean room which is the only good thing I'll say about my stay. Myself my wife and two friends ordered the Full Scottish breakfast. On the menu underneath the full breakfast was the option of black pudding and lorne sausage so I thought I would take up that option, onlyto be told I would lose my haggis and link sausage.... More

For a guest house, this is an excellent place to stay. Location is perfect...right at the base of Edinburgh Castle...surrounded by great restaurants. Wonderful staff and service, homemade and hearty breakfast. Very spacious rooms. Only one thing to aware of..the plumbing is noisy both with the toilet and the shower because of the system they use. Ask for an upper... More

Customer service was terrible. Room was very noisy we had no sleep all night compounded by very uncomfortable bed. Nice looking shower but no water pressure. Breakfast basic and cold if you order lone sausage only expect to get half a one! Only positives are the staff were nice rooms clean and good central location. I would not book again

The Castle View Guest House is ideally situated for Princes Street, buses to and from the airport and Waverley Station. The rooms are clean and well serviced nearly all en suite. Staff are helpful and attentive a very good place to stay with a but, the hotel does not have a lift so if stairs are a problem for someone... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
