Very happy with this choice. We booked a family room and had a huge room with two double beds, two single beds and a large sofa/divan. There was also plenty of storage with a chest of drawers and a wardrobe. The bathroom was large but had only a shower, no bath.. and the toilet was in the bathroom. The tariff... More

Excellent guest house! Location was great, right in the middle of everything. Room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic: from toasts to full Scottish breakfast. The staff were friendly and helpful. There was no elevator, which wasn't a problem for us. I would definitely recommend this place!!!

Stayed 2 nights at castleview with my fiance. Couldn't fault the place . Location fantastic right in the city centre. Bedroom with wow factor views, it was spotless and had a great shower. Breakfast was very tasty( no grease which a fry usually consists of)! Help yourself to fruit and cereal. Great value for money and all the staff were... More

We've just returned from a great weekend in Edinburgh and the 14 of us stayed at the castle view. Great location, right on George at where all our meals were booked and there is great shopping. The rooms were lovely and spotlessly clean, the breakfast was lovely and fresh. The staff were helpful too when checking out which was great.... More

Stayed here twice now, for a week each time. Perfect location, right in the centre for exploring the city, right on the edge of the New Town and a short walk through Princes Street Gardens to the Old Town, the Royal Mile and the Castle. Just off Princes Street with all its shops and buses and trams for exploring further... More

I very carefully made a booking in this guest house to ensure I had a bathroom. The booking confirmation was " Single room with private bathroom. Shower toilet bathroom." On arrival I was told.... "You do of course realise that the bathroom is not in your room, it is at the end of the corridor." When I pointed out the... More

This guest house has great views if you're lucky enough to get a room with the castle view! It is in a perfect location for exploring the city, located just off of Princes Street. We were on the top floor, which was a lovely room, the only downfall was all the stairs! As with most guest houses, there is no... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
