Stayed here for a weekend in the centre (July 2013). Rooms were very basic. Hotel was extremely noisy, rooms far too hot. Had the feeling on a hostel rather than a hotel. Would recommend if you are on a tight budget and not spending much time in hotel.

Easy to miss the entrance to this hotel as it is tucked down an alleyway. I was staying in Edinburgh for one night (Sunday 28th June) as I was attending a conference in Glasgow the next day, no hotels available in Glasgow so had to book Edinburgh and travel across in the morning. Reception called me as I was on... More

We needed a hotel that was close to the rail station, and when we came out of the station and realized that the hotel was literally across the street, we couldn't believe it. Within 3 minutes of leaving the station we were standing in the hotel's reception checking in. 3 minutes after leaving the hotel, having dumped our bags in... More

In spite of the very drab entrance to this hotel [Meuse Lane] you could not be any more central [off Princes Street] and is exceptional value. I travelled with my wife and my daughter and we shared a room for one night as we were moving on. The room which was on the 3rd floor had a large double bed... More

Stayed here one night whilst visiting Edinburgh. The hotel is located RIGHT opposite Waverley Station, near the bus stop for EDI airport and also a short walk to the tram for EDI airport. The entrance/lobby to the hotel is located in what appears to be a fairly grim looking backstreet which looks like it'll be freshened up soon as part... More

We stayed here on Tues 23rd June, and we're really impressed. The rooms have all been refurbished and there are now king sized beds, which is great for my partner who is 6ft 4in tall. The room and the bathroom were spotless. The location is great, looking out onto Princes Street over from Waverley Station. The entrance to the hotel... More

Handily located in city centre. Good, clean comfortable room. Entrance to hotel rather untidy and the bagpipe player outside the hotel from 9am each morning quickly got very wearing indeed. Get rid!!!

Idealy situated for our first visit to Edinburgh. Close to all transportation to tours and see the sights of the City and surroundings. Very friendly and efficient staff leading to a comfortable and relaxing stay at a reasonable price.

12 of us stayed for a girls birthday weekend. We basically just wanted a place to rest as we were out all day Saturday and Sunday. Very basic hotel but clean and warm. Staff really friendly and helpful. Would suit stag and hen parties

My wife and I had 2 nights there last week on a short break in Edinburgh. For the price the hotel was very good, the room and bathroom fairly spacious, spotlessly clean and the bed was comfy. No hairdryer or iron in room (wonder why?). Staff on Reception were first class, nothing too much trouble and some good ideas where... More

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighborhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
