The Glasshouse ticked all the boxes, in a fantastic location, the hotel design was modern yet classic, wonderful bedrooms with the added bonus of a rooftop garden which was so peaceful. Lovely and clean, comfy sitting areas, yummy breakfast and friendly staff - really can't recommend highly enough.

Beautiful hotel located in the city centre ... We took a suite , it's beautiful and comfortable ... The shower and the tub are just like a dream ... The staff here are very friendly and polite.. The only problem about this place is it's designed in a way that it takes you forever to find your room... U get... More

My husband and I stayed here on our first night in Edinburgh. We were upgraded to an amazing suite with a huge balcony. Bathroom was great. The amazing rooftop area has incredible views of the water & city. I wish there was a full service bar but we were given a free sample of whiskey with our suite so we... More

Spent one night here for business. Room was very nice with a door out onto the garden. Bathroom was fine if not anything special. The hotel seems disjointed with not a great bar. On the positive side it is located very centrally and within easy walking distance of shops and offices.

Well-informed staff that truly know the area; sumptuous surroundings; a expansive 2 acre spectacular rooftop garden. Loved the inside space filled with stimulating art, a community fire pit near the honor bar and fantastic breakfast buffets. If you have difficulty with stairs, you will need to advise the staff ahead of time regarding room selection due to the unique architecture... More

The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the hotel is well located, however the Glasshouse Hotel is a strange hotel (layout), in need of an update (dated furniture), with some issues to work on. The rooftop garden is beautiful. The rooms facing the garden have the advantage of the view. There rooms also have a couple of chairs right... More

My wife and I stayed here overnight for our anniversary a couple of months ago. When we arrived the receptionist said e had been upgraded to a suit, which was a pleasant surprise. The room we had was superb. Stunning views over the North of the city and the River Forth. The room was huge with a massive bed, rotating... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
