Had a 2 night break here recently. What a wonderful place! From the very warm welcome, to the stunning suite and the delicious breakfast. This is no ordinary B&B. Only downside is I've come away with severe house envy! Thankyou for a wonderful time.

Number 29 is an absolute gem. It’s in a great location in the West End, just five minutes walk from Haymarket train station, but also close enough to Princess Street and the Old Town. We stayed in room one and we were not prepared for how much space you have in the suite. It is huge and decorated to a... More

We spent 5 very comfortable nights with Simon and Corinne. Their house is beautiful and was lovely and warm on a cold and wet Edinburgh week. Breakfast set us up for the day. The location was brilliant and an added advantage was the car parking. We parked the car when we arrived and didn't use it again until the day... More

My wife and I stayed at Number 29 for a weekend. I wish we could have stayed for a week. The pace is wonderful- exactly what I would like out of a B&B. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable, and ours (number 2, upstairs) had a fantastic view of the cathedral cross the street. Meals involve cereals, fresh fruit,... More

We flew up from Manchester and caught the tram to 'West End' which is literally 2.5 mins walk to this wonderful establishment. We couldn't get over the brilliant location of Number 29. We stayed in magnificent Room One which overlooks St Mary's Cathedral at the front of the property. All the original Georgian features still intact and Décor very simple... More

Me and my wife spent three nights here. Number 29 is a Georgian terraced house that has been fully restored with all mod cons. It is beautifully kept and spotlessly clean. Breakfasts are excellent with fresh bread from the local bakery and choice of cooked English (Scottish?) or continental. The hosts are very knowledgeable about the locale and are happy... More

I stayed here with my husband for one night. I also wish we booked for more! We stayed in room 1 which is so spacious and beautifully decorated with perfect attention to detail. The bath in the room is so deep and luxurious that II stayed in there for 2 hours! The lounge area in the room was lovely and... More

We stayed here for 1 night but wished we had booked for longer. My husband and I stayed in room 3 and my brother and his wife stayed in room 2. Both rooms were beautiful, warm and comfortable. Our room had a view up to the castle which was lovely. My brother's room had a small sitting room which was... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
