We needed lunch and decided to go into Rick's in Frederick Street Edinburgh. There were six of us in our party. I went inside to check if they had a table for lunch, it wasn't busy so I assumed there would be a table free. The girl I approached went behind the reception area and promptly looked on the computer.... More

Please may I make it clear I came for lunch only and I did not stay over. Staff were so friendly and attentive. You simply could not have asked for better service. Beautifully designed restaurant, and the food was good. I however felt that the meat for the roast was on the tough side. This of course is my opinion.... More

Rick's deliver quality in terms of service, surroundings, food and bubbles every time. Always pop into Rick's when in Edinburgh and this was the first time with an overnight in their facilities. Brilliant! Luxury whilst very personal, stylish and loved every moment....enjoy what great accommodation in a great location with bubbles on site with fabulous food too!

Rick's continues to be in an excellent location and good value for money, especially in August when room prices shoot up across the city. The rooms are nicely laid out and decorated with White Company toiletries a treat but they are definitely now a bit scuffed and worn out and need refreshing as many other reviewers have noted. It's always... More

Perfect location for exploring Edinburgh without being in the thick of the tourist area. Great vibe in the bar. Didn't get to try the food but it looked lovely. Really comfy bed, power shower + GHD in the room an added plus. We were on the 2nd floor and there was a bit of noise from the street in the... More

After a long journey to the capital we were excited to have a quick dinner and a nice room to use before we headed to the concert at the Castle. Dinner was slow. 2 other tables having dinner when we were and it took 20 mins to get the empty starter plates cleared. Food quality was good but service was... More

I had booked this hotel for 2 nights when I had customers up at St Andrews for the Open. 4 Rooms each night. the customer service has to be some of the best in Edinburgh, from the easy check in to the food and the bar service all outstanding. we had dinner n the restaurant off the new menu and... Rick's is in a very central location in New Town, yet quiet (we were there on a Sunday with room facing the road). The rooms are well furnished and clean and the value for the money is optimal. We were very pleasantly surprised by the restaurant, which has convinced both with good food as well as friendly service and an... More

We have eaten at Ricks on a few occassions but this was our first stay. First impression was no lift so if you book ask for a room on lower floor or you may have six sets of stairs and 50 steps to climb . Room was lovely if deco was a little tired. The bed was so comfy I... More

We arrived on a Sunday evening after a day's travelling. Rick's was easy to find and was a real bolt hole. Our room was clean, quiet and well thought out. The bathroom was decoratively a little tired, but very clean nevertheless and with one of the best showers I have ever experienced! We ate in the restaurant which was very... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
