We arrived on a Sunday evening after a day's travelling. Rick's was easy to find and was a real bolt hole. Our room was clean, quiet and well thought out. The bathroom was decoratively a little tired, but very clean nevertheless and with one of the best showers I have ever experienced! We ate in the restaurant which was very... More

Stayed for five nights and had an absolutely excelent stay. The service was good, the room was nice and they had among the best food I tasted in Edinburgh during our stay. walking distance to the royal mile and castle if you have no trouble walking for 15 minutes and a 5 minute walk to the shopping streets. While it... More

We stayed at Ricks for two nights. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was very comfortable albeit the over bath shower facilities were a little cramped and it was noisy at night. The bar/restaurant area is modern and lively and was particularly busy early evening. The Buffet breakfast was good and the meal included in our DBB... More

A lovely boutique hotel in a fabulous location. Clean rooms with attention to detail, well stocked mini bar. Loved the extras in the room such as bath robes, GHD straighteners. Loved the fact that the room numbers were projected onto the room doors. Ate in the restaurant on first night - food very good with plenty of choice. Would definitely... More

We ate at Rick's four times during our stay in Edinburgh. The breakfast buffet is great, with reasonable variety and good service. This made us return for dinner. The place was very busy, with a young professional crowd. We waited a few minutes at the bar, had a drink, then were promptly seated. Both the food and service were excellent,... More

There as part of a group so time with friends made stay good. However room 3 was beside air con unit or something as loud then louder humming noise non stop. Had to wear ear plugs. Noticed in morning my bed sheet had large tear in it and carpet quite stained. Most uncomfortable lumpy bed ever slept in felt like... More

Stayed here on Sunday 3rd May to celebrate my 'big' birthday. To say I was disappointed was an understatement. We stayed here because it had been recommended by a family member who said it was lovely. Perhaps I was expecting more from the description '4* boutique hotel'. When we arrived and checked in we were told that there was no... More

We had an itison voucher for dinner bed and breakfast. Location is great, very central. The bar and restaurant has a really nice feel to it, even when is busy it's quite a relaxed space which we really liked. The meal was lovely, although the waiter was a little bit forgetful at times although very polite. The style of the... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
