We had an itison voucher for dinner bed and breakfast. Location is great, very central. The bar and restaurant has a really nice feel to it, even when is busy it's quite a relaxed space which we really liked. The meal was lovely, although the waiter was a little bit forgetful at times although very polite. The style of the... More

We had the itison voucher for over night for two with 3 course dinner with fizz and used it for a mid week escape. The room was really nice (albeit compact) with a huge bed and lovely bathroom. Tv stations were a bit wonky. Our room was at the back of the property and the wifi did not work reception... More

Stayed one night using an itison voucher with a £25 supplement per person (bit steep pp!) for Saturday night. We arrived the back of 11 and our room wasn't ready - which was to be expected but they politely offered to take our bags and have them waiting in our room for us on our return which was a nice... Stayed 8 March for a wee overnight stay. As always the staff are the stars of this hotel. From check in to check out they cannot do enough for you. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant with a bottle of Chocolate Box. The bar area was popular with people stopping off for a drink after work. The bedrooms... More

My partne treated to me for my 50th birthday, always wanted to see Hoghmany in Edinburgh. We stayed at Ricks for a two night stay, and even though it was extremely busy and a very popular place to be, yet all the staff were very attentive and helpful. The party after midnight was great and everyone had complimentary food to... More

Five ladies met for lunch today and it was very good. Four of us chose from the 2 mains for £10 and one went for the days special pasta. The food was all very tasty and portions were just right - it all disappeared! The restaurant is bright and spacious despite being in the cellar. Drinks weren't cheap with small... More

We had a Saturday night stay here last weekend after having to postpone our initial booking in February through illness. Staff were very good at finding us this alternative date. I have walked past this hotel on numerous occasion and probably due to it's cellar level entrance I've never given it a second glance. My mistake there. Found it to... More

Stayed one night using an itison voucher. £25 supplement for Friday stay though. Like another reviewer room wasn't ready on arrival but they took our bags and we were happy to get outside to take in the sights. On our return we made our way up to room 10 (3rd floor, no lift, noteworthy if your mobility is poor). The... More

Room more than adequate for our overnight stay. Bathroom although clean was rather tired. Stairway to the rooms badly in need of a clean. Food average and bar service poor, waited 20 mins to be served and gave up and moved over to pur booked table. On the plus side handy location and staff were pleasant.

We stayed here on a Monday night on a DBD deal with one of the discount websites. Room 7 was lovely and not as small as I expected from reading reviews - though the toilet was very bijou! The bed and the pillows were a bit too soft for our old bones - but comfy enough. The deal for dinner... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
