This hotel is tucked away on a side-street just off the Royal Mile. Although it might be a little hard to find on foot, our taxi took us there with no problem. The location is fantastic -- lots of great restaurants and sights within walking distance. There is a grocery store around the corner, which is great because the apartments... More

Bank holiday weekend trip for the Fringe festival this place is in an excellent location for all the events we attended , Very central , less than ten minutes in a taxi from the train station. Clean , modern , comfortable apartments with everything you could require for a weekend away .

The Holyrood was on a nice quiet street yet well within walking distance to the Royal Mile and other attractions. The setup is like an apartment with separate bedrooms and bathrooms plus a kitchen and living area. We were a party of three so it was nice to be able to gather in the living area for "planning meetings" plus... More

We stayed here for 2 nights whilst visiting Edinburgh for the Tattoo. The location is excellent. Through a small lane and right onto the Royal Mile.We had a 2 bedroom apartment which consisted of a lounge/kitchen,a double bedroom with en suite,a twin bedroom and separate shower room. The kitchen was very well stocked with dishwasher tablets, cleaning cloths and soap powder.... More

i am grateful to this guest for such a comprehensive and positive review for the Holyrood Aparthotel, and I can confirm that we are in the process of a major refurbishment program that will eliminate all water pumps that are currently installed but will be rendered obsolete. Booked this very last minute as arrived in Edinburgh having not booked anything. On approach I realised that you get what you pay for. However when inside i was happily surprised with the cleanliness and facilities available. Evening staff slightly off however day stay were so helpful it counterbalanced it. Overall a brilliant stay in Edinburgh and nice accommodation.

My husband and I stayed here August 15 for a weekend at the Fringe/festival - great central location and some parking available but you have to book in advance - we didn't but lovely receptionist pointed us in the direction of a NCP which had plenty spaces only 5 minutes walk away. Charges were similar in both. We had a... More

We stayed at this hotel for three nights during the second week of August. This hotel (we surmised) is a converted dormitory, as the University is nearby. Our suite consisted of a king size bed, a small but fully equipped kitchen, and a four piece bathroom. We also had our own electric heating/cooling unit, color flat screen TV, an in-room... More

Many thanks to this guest for their review and for returning to the Holyrood Aparthotel. We are currently in the middle of a refurbishment program that will address every apartment, with all works expected to be complete in early 2016. Leon Kiteley General Manager More

Great location for visiting the Edinburgh Fringe. We have stayed here twice before some years ago. When they were newer the flats were lovely and felt very lucurious but now they need some refurbishment.

We were traveling with another couple and stayed in one of the suites offered at the Holyrood Aparthotel for two nights. Wonderful experience. Outstanding location. Lots of room. Extremely clean. Well supplied kitchen area. Terrific bathrooms. Loved the deep, big tub. Clothes washer in the kitchen. Great value for the price.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
