We spent three nights at the Melvin House on our way to the Highlands and returned for a fourth night on the way home. Can't say enough good things about the Melvin House and their helpful staff. Absolutely great breakfasts, spacious rooms (even in comparison to American hotels) clean, tastefully decorated rooms with comfortable beds, and we had great views... more

I have just read the reviews of the melvin house hotel, and i would recommend this hotel to anyone that likes the old style sottish hotel, suberb views, clean and goes back into history with its old style, no nonsense hotel. Quiet hotel, no noise and the staff are excellent, the rooms manager was very helpful. She made us so... more

My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights at Melvin House (early July); in the magical city that is Edinburgh! As previously said, the hotel is ideally located very close to many of the attractions, but in a quiet square. The entrance was beautiful and check-in was courteous and efficient. We had a fabulous room with two large windows that... more

Fantastic Georgian Hotel. Staff was very helpful & courteous. Our room was lovely with a great view. And what a gem of a dining room - delicious full Scottish breakfast with great views of the area - great way to start the morning!! The oak dining room (20 ft. ceilings) came complete with carved gargoyles & cherubs - dining room... more

After reading some reviews before we stayed at this hotel, I had a couple of worries concerning the state of the place, but they were wrong!!!!! On arrival, the outside of the building was lovely, the area, the frontage, sadly not the weather, but that was not the fault of the hotel! The hall way was just breathe taking, the... more

Melvin House is a beautiful building, located on a quiet Georgian square just 5 minutes walk from the old city centre. Our room was large with huge windows overlooking the city. The breakfast was particularly nice. This hotel contributed much to make our stay in Edinburgh very enjoyable. more

I have just read a couple of reviews below and thats not the Melvin House I know. True its not a concrete box, sterio type hotel - its a stay in a true Scottish house. Entering the hotel, you are in an elegant traditional panelled hallway - a step back in history - and yes, the registration desk is under... more

Set in a beautiful Victorian building with high ceilings, gorgeous woodwork and quirky public rooms, this was one of my favorite stays. True, the furniture has its scratches and the drapes are a bit tatty, but that just adds to its charm. From the moment you enter and register at an under the staircase office right out of Harry Potter,... more
