Dated, dog eared, damp, dingy and over priced. Would not recommend . Finding a mouldy peach in the corner of the room, wasn't the highlight of our stay. The building is beautiful from the front outside, but is in dire need of renovation. There must be 78 coats of paint on each door/skirting board.the place made me cringe, I'd be... More

We had a lovely 3 night stay in this guesthouse over NewYear. We ended up booking a twin room for myself and my partner as we couldn't find a double anywhere else. The room was spacious, decor was dated but nothing major. We slept in the single bed and there was more than enough room for both of us. Best... More

The guesthouse is located in an extremely cozy and laid-back area of Edinburgh, close to Arthur's Seat and the Hollyrood area. The building in which the guesthouse is situated is beautiful and so are the rooms. With a bit of refurbishing and some more care, this place could be a real treat!

Arrived and was ushered up two flights of very steep stairs to an attic room - Room 8 I think. Thank goodness I didn't have any luggage. The man who showed me to the room showed me the bathroom then disappeared. The room was furnished with dilapidated furniture painted a disgusting lilac colour. The radiator in the room did not... What a horrible place to spend the night. Welcome was a cold as the come, though that it was a real pain to assist with my luggage, which I required given the two flights of steep stairs. Payment was a problem, they had keyed the credit card number incorrectly before I arrived so payment was declined , you would had... More

Obviously prices go up during the festival as I paid 212 for 2 nights bed & breakfast for myself and my 2 children. The guest house is very dated and needs some freshning up especially the bedrooms. The breakfast was minimal only 2 choice of cereals, no ketchup, no sausages, only white bread - and the lady who serves us,... More

This place is an over priced run down dump. It is on a temporary lease by a foreign man who is making a killing from letting run down, water damaged, bodged up rooms that are so ingrained with years of use that they could do with nothing less than a complete gutting and renovation. The lady who works there, Annie,... More

After 2 nights in Forres in the most beautiful guest house @£70/night we arrived at the Portaloo, sorry, Portabello. From the pictures on booking.com it looked reasonable but as we pulled up outside our hearts sank. It was like arriving at a 1970s tenement block. On entering it got worse. The decor was unchanged for several decades, it smelt dirty... More

Great location especially the beach. Hotel was clean but a little tired in places. We had a ground floor room with en suite which was comfy. Breakfast was good with cereal, juice and a cooked meal. The only problem was lack of choice over what you had on your cooked breakfast as no one asked likes or dislikes. Handy location... More
