This is a great hotel in many ways, and the staff are probably the best bit. The refurbishment has given it a lovely boutique feel and the bar area is good. Arrival by car is slightly difficult. The car park is a very short walk away, but if you have cases, drop them off first. The tram runs right past... More

I absolutely adore this hotel! The interior is gorgeous and modern and the atmosphere was very friendly! Just a ten minute walk into Edinburgh town center and only five minutes from numerous cafe's and restaurants! This hotel really did make my time in Edinburgh enjoyable and memorable.

The hotel sits in a fantastic city centre location with all major attractions a short walk away. The rooms were clean, a good size and comfortable. The staff were impeccable, and always on hand to deal with any issues etc.

I stayed here recently when I needed to come to Edinburgh for a business trip. I came upon it by chance through a hotel comparison website, there was a deal on the rooms so the price was good. The service was absolutely fantastic, I had emailed beforehand to ask if I could drop my bag off to be stored which... More

The reception staff were very friendly and most helpful and told me everything I needed to know even to the best places to dine, nearby. There are no lifts but the staff are most efficient and ready to carry your bags with a smile. I booked this accommodation online and thankfully, it was only one night as my room was... More

Nice hotel, very clean. Very firm mattresses, small but decent sized room for the UK. No elevator (we were on the 3rd floor). Very friendly and helpful staff, we had to ask how to turn the lights on (you need a key card) and how to work the shower (left handle is pressure & right is temp - I think... More

I stayed here while visiting for a conference in the Royal College of Physicians. It is about 5 minutes walk from the main shopping area and about 20 mins from the castle. Good buffet breakfast the next morning and a spacious room. I would stay here again. Free wifi and a restaurant, near the tram so perfect for a business... More

I stayed 2 nights in The Place, chosen for the location as I was attending a show in the Playhouse theatre down the road, so the location was very good. Arrival wasn't the best I've had. Receptionists were just going through the motions no friendly chat etc.our room was nice..clean and spacious for sure. Small compact bathroom. Tea/coffee facilities..iron and... More

Perfect location 5 minute walk to all the shops and the train station, bus stop right outside. Staff couldnt of been more helpful! The reception staff told us everything we needed to know as soon as we arrived even telling us the best ways to get places. Bar staff were friendly. Rooms were nice modern and cosy, food was delicious,... More

I really liked this place... from the cheerful, professional women at reception, to the bartender (yes they have a nice bar!) everyone was terrific. I'm sorry to say I can't remember her name, but the receptionist who cared for us when we first arrived was Irish, from Dublin, and delightful as well as helpful. Our room was small (but so... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
