Absolutely loved this hotel, clean, friendly staff, stylish and all round nice place. only down sides I would have are that the 'Cozy Double' was really small... Too small us as we are both 6ft3' and it really was tiny. Also the towel rota doesn't really work (you put towels in shower if you want fresh ones, or just hang... More

I stayed there for three nights over Easter weekend in a single room. The room was perfectly adequate for one person. Everything was spotless. Hotel is in a great location, just beside the York place tram stop and less than a ten minute stroll to the Royal mile. I didn't eat in the hotel as I felt it was a... More

I rarely complain and I write the post to simply inform fellow travelers so they can make an informed decision. The front of hotel is as described.. chic fashionable boutique city hotel. The staff are really nice, BUT.. the rooms are not as described.. budget/student accommodation at best.. how this place gets 4 stars is beyond comprehension. Beware being put... More

We stayed for two nights. Our room was absolutely and without doubt the smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in. Right at the top of a lot of stairs and a claustrophobic little hallway. The view from the window was lovely though. Breakfast was a shameless rip off and there was no hot water after midday. I told the... More

The Hotel is perfectly situated only 20 minutes away from the Castle which makes it quite close! There are some bice restaurants in the area and everything can be done by foot! The hotel is very nice with a nice lounge/bar area! The rooms however are quite small and a bit expensive for what it was. I would recomend a... More

Only booked night before travelling and were warned the room was on top floor and there was no lift. Didn't think that would be a problem but it was a nightmare - so many stairs, would never stay here again unless requesting a room on lower floors. Staff were really friendly, rooms OK, location really good. Breakfast not worth paying... More

My fiance booked us in to stay here as part of a theatre trip weekend. The room was ok. I thought it lacked a bit in character and it felt quite bare. The bathroom was ok apart from some of the fittings which had been removed. The bath was lovely. The double shower was good on principle but the water... More

Spent 3 nights here recently and very much appreciated the good customer service. Upon arrival we were given a basement room which was very, very small and only had a roof light. We asked if it would be possible to move to a slightly bigger room and this was sorted out for us immediately. Our new room was on the... More

Great location, wonderful food and excellent room - staff couldn't have been helpful or friendly. Hotel is located immediately opposite the last tram stop in York Place. Staff were very frienfly and could have been more helpful. Food, menu and food were both excellent - staff happy to russle up specials when not on the menu. Accommodation is throughout 3... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
