We have just returned from staying 2 nights here. They have clearly spent a lot of money trying to make the hotel lovely and the bar area and seating areas downstairs are very modern with a funky twist with colour. The theme also follows well through the hotel and into the rooms. The room we stayed in was HUGE exceptionally... More

This was our first time staying at The Place and we would definitely recommend it to our family and friends. The location is brilliant as it is just a short walk from the city centre. The hotel is very modern with large and spacious bedrooms and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. The only small complaint I would... More

This hotel is easily reached on foot from Edinburgh Waverley railway station; it's about 600 metres away. The last stop for the tram from Edinburgh airport is only about 75 metres from the hotel. The Royal Mile, Princes Street, Edinburgh Castle, the Scottish National Museum etc are all within walking distance. Lots of shops around this area. Very cheerful welcome,... More

Dear RAS060, Thank you for taking the time to post a review. I have taken note of the issues you mentioned and can only apologise that we allowed them to happen in the first place. I have communicated the TV and wireless issues to our service provider and I can assure readers that this is not usual practise and again,... More

I stayed one night with my Mother as we decided to go on a bit of a shopping trip to Edinburgh. It's not far from the train station, you can either walk which is a quick 10 mins or you can get a taxi (which is what we did) and it's about £6. Really close to the shops too it's... More

At the price I paid to stay I don't expect twin beds, no air con and no fridge. The room was basic and poorly insulated from the outside noise. The bar was nice and obviously refurbished but the Internet didn't work and the TV was only intermittent.

We regularly book an area for after work drinks, the latest was outside in the newly opened roof terrace! The terrace is lovely, finished to a high standard with comfortable furniture and plenty of heaters. The hotel/bar can also host BBQ's for hire which looks pretty tasty. The atmosphere is very trendy but relaxed. Prices are reasonable for Edinburgh city... More

We stayed here for 1 night at the beginning of July and were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is in a great location in the center of Edinburgh and has character (although it is very modern!). Staff were friendly, breakfast was great and prices were reasonable - my only small criticism was that the shower gel provided had already been used.... More

The hotel is in a very convenient location, just a short walk to all the restaurants of the "new town" and around 10-15 mins to the Royal mile in the old town. Our room was huge, front of house first floor. No lift but lots of help with bags if needed. Definitely one of the nicer hotels I have stayed... More

My boyfriend and I spent one night in this hotel and we were very happy with the location. It was a reasonable price and very close to the city. Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
