Very comfortable room and friendly staff. Good breakfast with many choices. Next to university and great location to all attractions. Would stay here again when in Edinburgh. Only complaint was when leaving I needed an 04:15am wakeup call with a 04:45am taxi to airport. Got a 04:15am call telling me my cab has arrived. Simple instructions that were not followed.

This hotel isn't fancy, BUT, from the first greeting by Keith, to the helpful staff, to the wonderful directions, I don't think you can beat it. The location is a 10 minute walk to the castle. Ourvroom was clean and comfortable. Having a Mini kitchen was just perfect. There is a washer and dryer available, I would suggest light loads... More

I stayed at the hotel, for 3 nights, last bank holiday week end. I found the room quite spacious, but the cleaning is very poor. In fact, when we got in the room it "looked" clean, but I could smell dust! My husband and I are allergic to dust, he started sneezing and coughing, and my eczema got much worse.... More

The first time I stayed in a Marriott Hotel was a few years ago when I went on a coach trip to Bristol & Bath with my local Coach Touring company. Some hotels treat coach tavellers as 2nd class citizens but not the Marriott at Bristol. EG I asked the receptionist if someone could come to my room at some... More

The hotel is newer and has modern decor and feel. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. It was easy to walk into the center of the city and to all sights. The immediate location has stores, restaurants and borders a beautiful park. This would've been 5 stars but the construction in the area and lack of signage made... More

Firstly the Hotel is very well situated in Edinburgh, being 10-15 minutes walk from the centre. The neighbourhood is a strange mix of very old buildings and very new buildings. The Hotel is very clean and the staff are great. I had breakfast included and the buffet style morning meal was consistently good. The restaurant space overlaps with the reception... More

Big rooms, most of it wasted empty space. No proper bathroom and no privacy. Tiny toilet space. Wash basin area in small alcove with no door, right next to bed, not acceptable. Small 'double' bed. Room was very hot with one wall all glass looking straight into another building that was also all glass. Had to keep curtains closed to... More

Clean comfortable quiet hotel that's close enough to walk to everything but is tucked away in a little street adjacent to the University of Edinburgh. Starbucks and a Sainsbury grocery store just around the corner. Room had a mini fridge and a combo microwave/oven that took me a few minutes to figure out but worked great once I did!

This hotel is located in the Quartermile. When we stayed, there was quite a bit of construction, but it was easy to find and park. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. It was a short walk from Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile.

The hotel location is accessible by walking to the Royal Mile, restaurants, museums and other services. Staff very helpful and couldn't be more cordial for assisting our stay. We were met by reception staff who informed us that although the room was not "completely ready" but realizing we had flown in early morning, we were more than welcome to use... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighborhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
