Spent 2 nights in this hotel and from the moment we walked in both the staff and the hotel exceeding expectations. Great size rooms. 10 minute walk from the town but worked well for us. Would definitely stay here again and great little coffee shop and supermarket 2 mins away.

The hotel seems to be in a new building; however there is no central air to speak of so we has the windows open and a fan running(Yes we had the best weather ever on our trip). The hotel is modern, the rooms decorated nicely and the service was very good. Breakfast was very busy in the morning and the... More

Location and quality of the rooms and hotel itself is excellent, and then there's the staff, who are absolutely outstanding across the board. Having worked in 34 countries and been in hotels all over, this hotel has been among the best in all around value. We have brought in approximately 50 people from outside Scotland to work on regular basis... More

This is a fairly modern hotel in an office complex near the university. Our room was large (~350 sq feet), immaculately clean and very comfortable. The beds and sheets were first rate. There is a small kitchen with a refrigerator, toaster and microwave oven as well as a tiny dishwasher. A fine grocery store is just a few minutes' walk... More

We stayed here for two days last week. Our room was modern, clean and well equipped with everything we needed. It had a little kitchenette which was very handy. The bed was comfy, the shower was powerful and it was very quiet (we were on the 5th floor) The breakfast was lovely-not lacking in anything and all tasted great. Especially... More

Stayed at Residence Inn for 3 nights midweek, and overall had a great time. Staff - All members of staff that dealt with us were lovely and were more than happy to help us with whatever we needed. Rooms - Our room, 409, was lovely and big and had a kitchenette with fridge, dishwasher and microwave. The bathroom consists of... More

A nice hotel in a quiet part of town within easy reach of all attractions and shop. From the time we arrived at 10.30pm until we left 3 days later the staff we absolutely great with friendly and helpful service and were quick to resolve any questions a guest might have. Good breakfast albeit a little manic but great value.... More

Quartermile location is awesome, property not so much. Location: set amidst office complex and houses. New development, no character. Basically you are sleeping in a modern building overlooking office workers tapping late hours and holiday weekends. On the other hand, it is away from the hustle and touristy part of the Royal Mile. Not too far off (10 minutes walk... More

Thank you for taking the time to convey your comments. I am delighted you found the spacious room & location to your liking. I am sorry the cleanliness of the room was not to our usual high standard, especially, as you were travelling with a young child. I can imagine this may have made your stay a little uncomfortable and... More

My husband and I stayed here 3 nights and were very pleased with the hotel. Should we ever make it back to Scotland we will stay here again for these reasons: Lobby: clean, modern, updated. Staff: quick check in, very friendly and helpful, professional. Rooms: great layout like a compact mini apartment. The decor is modern and updated. The bed... More

This is our third stay here ane we keep coming back because of the location and the excellent bus routes nearby. We had a separate bedroom and sitting room....but the bedroom is tiny and the bed is not usual Marriott size. Good shower, good sitting room, we didn't use the kitchen facilities. Breakfast is good, if crowded. The staff are... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighborhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
