I stayed in this hotel while away with work - it's always a bit of a worry when traveling alone but I had nothing to worry about. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and I was made to feel very welcome. My room was huge - I was offered an upgrade before arrival - king size bed which was... More

I was in Edinburgh for a day on work, and was put up at this hotel. I was accompanied by my husband. We had arrived from London at 11 am, well before the check in time of 2 pm, but since I had meetings starting noon, the owner (Ash) very kindly accommodated me and got us our room in advance.... Loved our 2 night stay here recently, Ash and his family and staff are lovely and could not have been more helpful and friendly so we would definitely stay there again. Good value prices too for Edinburgh and although parking is a little distance to walk its free so what's there to complain about!

Me and 2 friends came here as it is near Haymarket Station and we did not expect very much at all but were amazed when we arrived with the service we received. Memebers of staff were extremly helpful, friendly and polite and couldn't do enough to make sure we were comfortable. Our room was spacious, clean and well decorated and... More

We chose this hotel for its proximity to Haymarket station, and, indeed, it is only a 5 minute walk. Coates Gardens is a nice smart quiet street and the hotel is a well-renovated townhouse. We were welcomed warmly by Alam, and shown to a spacious family room in the basement, very well furnished and attractively decorated with interesting pictures. The... More

Good location five minutes from Haymarket station. Small room and tiny bathroom, but comfortable bed with TV and kettle. Not great for late arrivals - I got in at 10 and the bar was closed, so had to walk to nearby pub for a drink and some snacks (luckily, the Haymarket is excellent). Also, breakfast wasn't served until 8am, which... More

Brilliant stay. Enjoyed so much returning in July. A great location with great friendly helpful staff. Hotel was very clean and room we had was huge and very nicely decorated. Definitely worth the price we paid for our stay and can't wait to return. Would most definitely recommend to anyone looking for a well placed, value for money stay in... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
