Having read reviews I was slightly concerned about what we would find. However myself and 3 friends stayed here on 18th October and we all agreed good value for money accommodation. We had family room. (Two adjoining numbers 7&8) lots of stairs up but didn't bother us. Rooms clean, beds comfortable. Tea/coffee available. One very small issue hot tap in... More

I booked my daughter and grandson into this hotel for a two night stay in Edinburgh. They thought it was absolutely wonderful and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Great value for money. Well situated for Princes Street and Ocean Terminal. Would definitely use this hotel again and recommend to others.

Myself and my partner recently booked a weekend in Edinburgh and booked into the Capital residence..However I wish I'd read the reviews first. To start with its a gorgeous building full of character, loved the high ceilings (not in the basement)and the large windows. I'd read reviews about room 8 and typically it was just our luck to get this... More

My fiancé and I stayed in room 10, this was the apartment with the French doors out to the garden (being a smoker this was great! We had not requested this so it was a lovely extra). We arrived around 4pm to our keys in an envelope in the foyer with a letter stating they had been called away unexpectedly.... More

My girlfriend planned a night here as part of my birthday weekend. When we arrived we walked towards the main door and noticed two men sitting smoking on the step. We thought it was pretty rude for guests to do this until we noticed the capital residence logo on one of their tshirts. We couldnt honestly believe that they were... More

Firstly, there are a few good points to this hotel, the lady that greeted us was very pleasant, polite and helpful, the entrance and main public areas do come across well thought out, clean and well designed- sadly this is where the pleasantries end After reading previous reviews as they were so mixed we booked and took a chance, I sadly... Room (number 8 and 9 in basement): Terrible Breakfast: Very good We paid way too much for what we've got in return... If you get one of the rooms in the basement: stay somewhere else... Those rooms are the main reason why you find so ambiguous reviews here... I feel we were over-charged... I also remember seeing 4 stars on... More

All great so far. We have bern put in a family suite even though it's just the 2 of us. Large, spacious room with a bathroom to die for. The chap who checked us in couldn't have been any more obliging. Awaiting breakfast with anticipation-it has a lot to live up to after reading the guest book.

No one available to meet us on arrival, never mind let us into the hotel. Envelopes with room keys left outside for us to help ourselves but our names were not there. We took another envelope and left a contact number as we suspected a mix up in names. (This was a guess after standing outside for an hour, as... More
