The place itself isn't too bad, it is in a good location near Haymarket Stations and about 20 min walk from the city centre itself. Rooms are basic but clean, the usual microwave, toaster, electric hob and small fridge etc ensures there is plenty to cook with. The check in process was easy enough, although I did feel checking out... More

Pro's: -Decent location -spacious room Con's: -Bed was shocking -Fluoro lights were terrible Booked this at the last (ish) minute during the fringe festival. Probably wouldn't stay here again but was close enough to walk everywhere Coffee place called Milk that was down on the main road was great!

This was a fantastic place to stay for 2 nights. The room was clean and tidy with sufficent amenities. The staff were great and there were 2 computers and internet in the lobby to use for free. Thanks for a great stay.

Great wee place to stay. Very friendly staff which is always great! Only downside was there was no wifi. Probably better suited to an individual or couple as the rooms are very small, which obviously can't be helped! Would definitely recommend.

We stayed for one night during the Edinburgh Fringe. Very clean, just right for one night stay. No TV but for one night you really don't need TV. You do hear people outside walking past during the night but you'll get that almost anywhere in Edinburgh. Reception just as you come in, staff quick and efficient at checking in -... More

Smart at IQ is student accommodation and I think if you know that going in then you will be happy with your stay. Room: We had a double studio, clean and comfortable with sufficient room and we weren't disturbed by noise. A bit stuffy with no aircon or fans. Has a small kitchen. Service: Computers crashed so check-in delayed for... More

The rooms are functional and are very clean when you arrive, but the daily cleaning was not the best. You could clearly hear the on goings of neighbors and people walking in the corridor. Friendly staff. Hopefully, it is cheaper when the Festival is over - and then I would say good value for money.

We took a studio apartment in this hostel. Has a good location in Edinburgh and near to most attractions of the city. It has a neat and tidy rooms with high class comfort and all room facilities were up to the mark.

This does what it promises - no more and no less. Room was a basic student study bedroom, with toilet and shower. Although the place seemed to be busy, I never heard or saw anyone in my block. There was a small kitchen and common room area to each 6 rooms. Again, I only saw a packet of chocolate flakes... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
