This does what it promises - no more and no less. Room was a basic student study bedroom, with toilet and shower. Although the place seemed to be busy, I never heard or saw anyone in my block. There was a small kitchen and common room area to each 6 rooms. Again, I only saw a packet of chocolate flakes... More

It's alright but the key fobs are a pain to work and rooms cold in the morning alright for a night or so. Staff helpful however did have a prison type feel to it as internal halls were dark and deathly feeling. Would stay here again but only for a short break. Free wifi would be a bonus as phone... A lot of people would say you get what you pay for a place like this. Correction - you get what you need. Just keep in mind that this is not a resort. If you are in Edinburgh to see the city on a budget, then this is your place. It is a little hard to find though, the online... More

These are very much apartments that are rented out on a short term basis, it's not an hotel. The rooms are ridiculously small, barely enough to turn around, but the interior is modern and pretty clean. But the thing struck me was the miserable service, it's the opposite of hospitality, they are doing a good job but you would imagine... More

They say if you go into things with low expectations you will be pleasantly surprised and this was the case with our visit to IQ. We knew that this was student residences so didn't have any issue with it being basic. Students these days appear at least to get a hob and microwave, although how you use the microwave can... More

Great location, really close to the Haymarket station, and within a walking distance to the castle. The bedroom was comfortable and clean, and it has a good kitchen. The shower is really small, though. The windows of my room (corner room in the first floor) are huge and leave you exposed to whoever is walking on the street, hence I... More

If this was my student accommodation I would love it. In terms of the stay we were looking around for hotels and found most were very expensive and this came up at around half the price so we were a little wary about it. We have stayed at other unnamed travel lodges before and had very little facilities where as... More

Fund this place by chance, it is student accommodation in term time but rented out in the holiday season. Ran by students, really clean and has everything you need. Great location for Princes St, Grassmarket and the main fringe area. Would book again

I stayed 5 nights while attending a course at the Sheraton - at Smart at IQ I got the whole week for less than a night at the Sheraton. The room was called "standard 12 sq. meters". Room was very clean, daily cleaning and new towels upon request. Room might be a little small for some, but it did fit... More

Stayed here 6 nights for the Tattoo, close to Haymarket station. many shopping and dining opportunities in the area, about a 20-minute walk to Edinburgh Castle. sweet and friendly staff in your 24-hour front desk I certainly come back next year when there are Tattoo again.

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
