The hotel in general, the staff and the location was fine. Unfortunately the mattress was covered in pee-proof plastic, which made it horrible to sleep on. Probably quite practical (if guest usually pee in bed?), but for a otherwise proper hotel, it was horrible.

When i booked a room via Agoda it didn't really seemed like a student flat so I was surprised that it was. I was given a flat at the 2nd floor and it was extremely difficult to climb up the stairs with all my luggage (I had been travelling for 3 weeks). Also the floor felt sticky and there was... More

Not what we expected. We didn't know that Smart IQ is more like a dorm. The rooms were big and quite nice but the was slight grime about them. We had to refuse one room because it smelled strong of BO. We think that they were trying to air out the room because the window was open yet the smell... More

Really wanted to say how brilliant this accommodation is. It's perfect for a single traveller but also would be great for a couple. The rooms are fresh and clean and modern and have everything you could need. My only criticism is that trying to locate the building is a little tricky as it's not really got signage lie a hotel.... We stayed at the Smart @ IQ apartments for 4 nights during a event trip to Edinburgh and were pretty happy with our stay. The good bits: *Room was clean and comfortable. *There is a small kitchenette with a fridge, microwaves and cook top, and a laundry on site which we really appreciated after a few weeks on the road.... Conveniently named. Smart IQ is a combination of necessity and comfort. It is - however - POPULAR - so, I warn in advance, to book ahead, and whilst we are at it, book it for at least a week. Why? Because the location of Smart IQ is quite convenient. If you want a place that is not in the main... More

Stayed here two nights and it was great. Clean and comfy. everything you needed!! Staff were very friendly and efficient. With it being used as student accommodation throughout the year its pretty basic, but thats all you need to be honest.

This place is not a conventional Hotel....hence don't expect Room Service, or fancy lobby or anything like this...!! If your are a tourist in Edinburgh you are going to spend most of the time outside the hotel, we booked this place keeping this in mind...and it was just good. These are more apartment like rather than Hotel rooms. Positives: -... More

Thanks for taking the time to review us. We are student accommodation the rest of the year round, and only open in July & August as budget accommodation, hence we don't have any of the more luxurious hotel amenities eg concierge We hope to see you again next year Thanks Jayne More

Stayed here for 2 nights for a weekend break in Edinburgh and was pleasantly surprised. The rooms are a good size and well furnished and the staff are friendly and helpful. We did not get charged for any extras either such as baggage storage which other reviews have mentioned. The hotel is clean and very modern, with comfy beds and... More

I stayed here for four nights and enjoyed my stay. The location is excellent. Haymarket station is only a ten minute walk away, even with a suitcase to drag behind you. Princes St, the Castle, Holyrood etc are all within walking distance. Princes St was only fifteen minutes away. Check in and out was fine. I was allowed to check... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
