Without a doubt, this was the most awesome hotel I've stayed in. The staff is very friendly and the castle and its location are amazing. I have never seen a more beautiful place in my life - it's about a 20 minute bus ride from Edinburgh in a small village in the gorgeous Scottish countryside. There are friendly horses nearby,... more

My wife and I intended on staying at Borthwick as part of a vacation to Scotland, celebrating our 5 year anniversary. We were married there in 2004 and had the most amazing time. Only great memories came from our day there, from the rooms to the dining and the service was impeccable. However, times have certainly changed for the worse.... more

We stayed at Borthwick Castle in August 2009. We were also joined by our family and friends for our wedding ceremony. (60 Guests) All we can say is that is a truely spectacular wedding venue. The castle history dates back to before the Mary Queen of Scots era and has retained it's medieval feel, you can imagine how noble men... more

My husband and I stayed at Borthwick Castle in mid-March and it was such a treat! A bit of splurge but worth every penny for an authentic, fun, romantic castle experience! We arrived on a blustery Friday evening and were met by the friendly young man who showed us our room. We happened to be the only guests that night... more

Second time staying here at Borthwick and it was even better than we remembered. Agree with all the other reviews about the authenticity of the place and we even got a full tour this time from the very knowledgeable staff manager David. Dinner is expensive (just like any other good restaurant in Britain) but totally worth it. Plan on spending... more

I got married at Borthwick Castle on 7th Feb 2009 & I can honestly say that we could not have picked a better venue nor would we have changed a single thing. Gail, David & all the staff at Borthwick (including the chambermaids & ground staff) go beyond the call of duty to make your stay as comfortable as they... more

We stayed in Borthwick Castle for a weekend at the end of May and it is the quirkiest hotel i have ever stayed in. The hotel is only rated 3 star, but this is because of the shabby chic charm of the place. It has been kept historically as it should be for the most part and this is probably... more

My wife and I were married at Borthwick Castle on September 10, 2008 and we had an absolutely wonderful time. The people were the best and friendliest, the food was outstanding and history of the castle was fascinating. If you are a history buff, then you will definitely want to visit Borthwick. All of the staff was more than happy... more

Borthwick Castle feels like a real castle in every way. I stayed there with my thirteen year old son, and we loved it. The dinner in the Great Hall was great. I enjoyed speaking with the other guests after dinner in front of the fireplace. On previous trips to Europe I have stayed at other castles. Some have installed modern... more

There are many 'castle hotels' in England/Scotland that are rehabbed hybrids. Borthwick is the real deal, replete with a major dent in the towers courtesy of Cromwell's cannons. Purportedly haunted (sightings from people I know that normally would scoff at such stories), this has all the charm and history one could hope for in a castle (OK, maybe a moat... more
