We stayed in Borthwick Castle for a weekend at the end of May and it is the quirkiest hotel i have ever stayed in. The hotel is only rated 3 star, but this is because of the shabby chic charm of the place. It has been kept historically as it should be for the most part and this is probably... more

My wife and I were married at Borthwick Castle on September 10, 2008 and we had an absolutely wonderful time. The people were the best and friendliest, the food was outstanding and history of the castle was fascinating. If you are a history buff, then you will definitely want to visit Borthwick. All of the staff was more than happy... more

Borthwick Castle feels like a real castle in every way. I stayed there with my thirteen year old son, and we loved it. The dinner in the Great Hall was great. I enjoyed speaking with the other guests after dinner in front of the fireplace. On previous trips to Europe I have stayed at other castles. Some have installed modern... more

There are many 'castle hotels' in England/Scotland that are rehabbed hybrids. Borthwick is the real deal, replete with a major dent in the towers courtesy of Cromwell's cannons. Purportedly haunted (sightings from people I know that normally would scoff at such stories), this has all the charm and history one could hope for in a castle (OK, maybe a moat... more

Our Borthwick Castle stay was one of the highlights of our three week visit to Ireland, Scotland and England. It has an authentic castle feel, and is very accommodating to families. Our host, David, was outstanding in the many roles he assumed during our stay. Our family stayed in the top two rooms of the towers and it made it... more

We stayed in the Mary Queen of Scots room. The room itself was wonderfully presented and really gave you the feel of being in an historic location. We also dined at the castle in the main hall surrounded by suits of armour and a roaring log fire. The meal was excellent and the staff couldn't have been more attentive. The... more

Hi there, I got married in Borthwick Castle in June 2007 and took the place on the exclusive use package. This is a REAL castle and as such is not a 5 star resort with luxury facilities. However, what you get for money is a fantastic building that oozes history and staff that couldn't be more helpful. The rooms are... more
