My husband and I had stayed at Ellesmere in 2005 when it had different owners. We returned for three days this year (with two othe family members) because we had enjoyed our previous stay so much. We knew Ruth and Murdo had taken over but were staggered by the fantastic reburbishment they had undertaken. The rooms were absolutely beautiful and... more

My wife and I together with 2 other couples stayed 3 (and 5) nights end of october 09. We had a wonderful time. Wonderful rooms, friendly staff and in close proximity to the IECC (5-10 min walk). The house was made ready for Halloween - cool! Deliscous breakfast served every day. They also have nice bars and very good restaurants... more

All the positive points mentioned by the other reviewers are true: lovely place, lovely people, short walk into the centre of town, I found nothing that could be improved upon. Continental breakfast was delicious and very plentyful. It is a price bracket up from what I usually choose, but that was definitely worth every penny! more

Ruth and her husband offer an elegant and mosthospitable stay. The rooms are large, comfortable and exceptionally well appointed. From elegant surroundings to excellent breakfasts well prepared and exceptional presentation. Every detail is considered and addressed; linen napkins, soft music, fresh flowers on each table. Although onsite parking is unavailable Ruth guided us to a safe street site and then... more

Ellesmere House is a wonderful Bed and Breakfast. Warm welcome, comfortable rooms, great breakfast (salmon and scrambled egg!!) and Molly, the resident dog, is just adorable. It is in a great location, just a short walk to the city centre and the rooms are beautifully decorated with high ceilings and chandeliers. I couldn't recommend it enough, so if you are... more

We absolutely can recommend this B&B. It is situated at the Bruntsfield Golf (Putting) Course, just a short walk away from the Old Town (15 minutes) - if it`s raining you can also take one of several busses from Tollcross. The room was very quiet, spacious, with a large four-poster bed in the middle, a fridge and digital tv, the... more

We read spectacular reviews about this B&B, so our expectations was the highest possibile coming in Edinburgh for the last 5 nights of out scotland tour, we checked in on Aug 16th and checked out on Aug 21st. I was aware that high expectations lead often to disappointments, but I wasn't disappointed at all. The room was spacious. It was... more

This was our first stay on our trip to Scotland. The location was great, so near the city yet at the edge for a feeling of spaciousness. So much to take in, nice place to relax. Our one disappointment was there was no common room for us to play cards or visit for the end of the evening and we... more

Stayed there for 3 nights in July while in Edinburgh visiting friends. My room was clean, spacious and had lovely decor (the whole house was beautifully done). Location wise was perfect as you are close to bus stops for West End of Princes Street and the Old town. You could also walk through the meadows if the weather allows which... more
