I found the experience of the Balmoral rather disappointing and not in any way uplifting. The hotel interior has seen better days a few years ago and the guest rooms and some of the public areas such as the restaurants could certainly do with a new kiss of life. Service was good and friendly and the food at Number One was... More

We have called in here before on one of our many trips to Edinburgh and in my opinion every one needs to have a drink in there lovely lounge. There is always a very warm welcome from these professional staff. The seating is comfortable and the service is second to none. On this occasion we ordered a glass of Prosseco... More

Wonderful stay again and great facilities. Attention to detail was key. Staff could not be more helpful. Great location for business and pleasure in Edinburgh. Wonderful breakfast choice. Shall be sure to return again.

This hotel certainly lived up to our expectations. We stayed on two occasions, both rooms with lovely decor, one with atrium view of the famous clock, the second with a view along the Royal Mile to the castle. The staff were second to none, always courteous and pleasant, professional and polite. Concierge even repaired the broken frame of a pair... More

We stayed at the Balmoral in June 2015. It was very much a big city, high-end hotel. I always leave feeling like I overpaid for something sort of generic. It is a lovely hotel with fantastic service. The whiskey bar is quite nice. The view from our room was spectacular. The room itself was comfortable and clean. Overall it was... More

Exceptional hotel in a great location. Staff could not have been more helpful and pleasant.Beautiful accommodation, spotlessly clean and quiet. Wining and Dining was sublime and the full Scottish Breakfast is not to be missed!!! Unfortunately our time there was short but for sure we will return.

We have just returned from a nights stay at the Balmoral and have to say it was lovely as expected the room was large and comfortable and the bathroom was lovely. This hotel I would recommend although compared to other hotels we have stayed in seemed a bit pricy but we could not complain as it was a wedding anniversary... More

We are well seasoned travelers and we were delighted with all of our rooms at this hotel and the service we received. We had a total of 5 rooms and even the smaller rooms were beautifully appointed and had nice amenities. We also enjoyed our inclusive breakfast and enjoying cocktails and snacks in the lounge and in the Whiskey Bar.

The Balmoral is a well known and famous hotel in Edinburgh however, I was disappointed in the quality of the rooms and the amenities offered. We stayed during the Open Championship so it was very busy. The staff was pleasant and highly professional but no turn down service was offered despite the $900+ per night rate. There was a breakfast... More

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighborhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
