A super find. Everything was perfect, from the welcome in Reception to the superb value full breakfast served in the sumptuous room, this was perhaps the best place we've ever stayed. The room (16) was fantastic. It had a beautiful sitting room with windows on two sides, which led to a wonderful bedroom. I could go on but you get... More

The Edinburgh Residence was part of an ambitious and exclusive timeshare scheme in the early 2000s that we bought into. A series of premier hotels individually crafted was the idea but unfortunately the idea failed through financial over extension. The Edinburgh Residence remains a jewel and my wife and I look forward to our weeks stay split between a 3... More

Me and my partner stayed here for 1 night. It is slightly out of the city centre but still within walking distance. Car park is located round the back of the hotel so don't park out the front as this is permit only. Lady on reception was more than welcoming. Porter helped with bags and took us to the room.... This was our 4th visit and it won't be our last. The location is ideal on a quiet grand street and walking distance to all of Edinburgh's sights. Being able to park the car at the door is a great bonus at a city centre hotel. The rooms are large and extremely comfortable with a slightly worn country house feel... More

We stayed here for 5 nights over the new year. After looking for ages on the internet we found this place and thought it looked too good to be true - excellent reviews, excellent location, excellent rooms and after staying there we can say that everything is EXCELLENT! We paid slightly more for a Grand Suite and it was huge... More

We stayed here for one night as part of our honeymoon. We had arrived early but fortunately our room was ready for us. Our car was parked by a porter and our cases brought to our room. The room we had was grand. It was comfortable and large. I think it would have been more than comfortable had we even... More

We recently stayed in townhouse 21 for 7 days ( thank you to Debbie Currie for booking this perfect room for us) because it was lovely! We have been owners for years and Debbie seemed to know that we would like this room - how intuitive - thank you. The service was great, the room is decorated in a regal... More

we visit Edinburgh 2 or 3 times a year and always stay at the Residence. Rooms are large, comfortable and all different. The staff are excellent always helpful and knowledgeable. The location is also good. Just a comfortable walk to Princes St and the new tram yet very quiet.

The suite was amazing! The breakfast was superb, but most of all the staff was great! Although there was a mistake with our reservation they solved it immediately and everyone was very polite and helpfull. If I travel in Edinburgh again I will definitely stay there!!

As a timeshare owner we have been visiting for nearly 20 years, unfortunately standards are slipping and it's not nearly as good as it use to be. Breakfast a disappointment my advice is go out for it. Attention to detail lacking, lights broken, shaver sockets not working, noisy fan or something in our living area that went on all day... More

Dear AnthonyPit, Thank you very much for your comment on your recent stay. I am terribly disappointed that we had not been able to meet your expectations on your recent stay with us. As probably you are aware, we are refurbishing 3 of our rooms every year to ensure that the rooms are up to 5 star standards. We would... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
