Excellent is the only review I can give to this hotel. Before I stepped in the door, my bags were carried into the drawing room - where I could check in leisurely with a cup of tea. I had arrived very early, but was accommodated straight away, and they even asked for my room to be made ready as a... More

After a long day of traveling I arrived at the hotel. My suitcase decided to stay behind in Dublin. I wasn't in the greatest mood, but when I walked into this hotel my bad mood faded. The interior of the Edinburgh Residence is gorgeous. The staff was super friendly, I was checked in and shown my room, which was delightful.... More

Situated in a quiet spot - yet close to all the action, The Edinburgh Residence provided us with a comfortable and luxurious base for a week in Edinburgh to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had a lovely suite on the top floor overlooking Dean Village and with views across to Fife and to the Ochils. The facilities include sufficient crockery... More

Could not fault this residence from the minute I came through the door to the minute I left. The young male staff were a delight and could not do enough to make your stay memorable. Breakfasts in your suite were fantastic The best accolade I can give any establishment is - we will return

Beautiful hotel and so very quiet!! From the moment we arrived we were looked after to the highest standard. We left the car outside the front as we couldn't find the car park (free parking) and one of the staff members very kindly parked it for us. Great service. We were given a map and given loads of advice where... More

Staying in a grand suite on the second floor for five days over Christmas for our honeymoon, this is how we plan to continue our exploration of cities. The entrance room allows you to come and go and get wrapped up in what was a cool and sometimes rainy Edinburgh. Then further inside is the open fire and reception with... More

Finally stayed here after a false start when I messed up the booking a few years ago. Well worth the wait. Very well appointed suite and excellent service. We had a top floor at the back with great views over the Dean Village which made a fantastic backdrop for an excellent eggs benedict in the morning. We also ate there... More

Located just 10m walk from Princes Street in a quiet and elegant location. We stayed in a room at the front overlooking a small park, and as the hotel is tucked back in a cul de sac off from the main road, the rooms at the front are quieter than expected. The large rooms /suites contain a comfy sofa, breakfasting... More

A very warm welcome, delicious food and excellent rooms. The Edinburgh Residence is not as central as other hotels but it is better than anything else in the price range and is an easy walk to the centre.

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
