I stay in hotels on a regular basis on business and vacation. This is my hotel of choice when in Edinburgh. Located in York Place, which is the last stop on the tram line from the Airport, the hotel is within walking distance of all of the centre of Edinburgh. The rooms are spacious, the beds are really comfortable and... More

Hotel was very nice and the location was superb. I'm not entirely sure they gave me the room I had paid for as the staff didn't seem to know entirely what they were doing. The staff were friendly and responded to every request quickly and were very helpful. Enjoyed the free minibar & the bathroom mirror that didn't steam! I've... More

Stayed here for a work conference at the nearby Royal College of Physicians. The rooms vary significantly in size and amenities (my first option had french doors that opened onto a little patio but no view, second room got some sunlight but no patio-a coworker's room had a patio with a view and seating.) Bed was very comfortable, Aveda bath... More

This hotel is at the end of the line for the new tram system in Edinburgh and a 5 minute walk from Waverley Train Station, so it has superb travel links. The hotel itself is a beautiful boutique hotel with accents of turquiose, orange and green. It is very modern inside a very old building. The staff are very friendly.... More

Struggled a bit with the hotel as it is a bit of a rabbit warren given its some old town houses all converted together, so finding my room and getting back to reception was a struggle (especially after a glass of wine)! No doubt its in a good location, handy for everything and easy walking distance from Waverley station. The... More

Stayed here for a couple of nights recently and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. The hotel is very well situated and handy for the city centre, or the restaurants and bars in the Broughton area of New Town. The beautiful Georgian exterior houses a very contemporary interior which is very clean and smart looking. The incredibly helpful staff were courteous and... More

I stayed here with two friends in October 2014. We booked a triple room which was absolutely fab! The room itself was enormous with a little sitting area and a well stocked mini fridge! The room was lovely and bright and the bathroom was spacious and modern. The location is great, just behind Prince's street and practically backing onto a... More

The room was lovely and hotel is in a prime location however the air conditioning was very noisy and so I moved to a different room. They handled this very well. The menu is very limited and not of a high quality anf the hotel itself is a maze. You will get lost!

Great hotel staff and fantastic restaurant. Only downside is they use swisscom who are terrible! Gym could also use some Polish but the staff are always happy to help and there's a great vibe from people who seem to enjoy working there. Always a pleasure to stay

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
