Few nights stay at the end of the Fringe. Interesting concept and some nice touches eg free mini bar in the room, good sound isolation from the noise outside, comfy bed. The room however was very small and the bathroom even smaller. With such a small room it might have been better to have less furniture as it made it... More

We booked the Hotel Indigo as a bolthole during the Fringe festival for 4 days and it was a great find. Great rooms, excellent service, delicious food and good location. The only reservation was te fitness room, where despite reporting it, neither treadmill worked for the duration of our stay. Thoroughlyrecommended.

It’s the little touches that make you smile – real milk in the mini bar, plus juices, soda, water – all complimentary. Decent coffee/tea selection and shortbread! A hair bobble inside the shower cap, lovely toiletries, face flannels. Fluffy dressing gowns – slippers would have been nice as the floors are polished wood! Our room had aircon although we didn’t... Booked for the Christmas Market and well worth a visit. Lots of activities and stalls. Had a great time food at Indigo good and room was clean and modern . We had dinner on the second night and breakfast both days. Breakfast staff need some training as the were unsure of our orders and we only ordered full English the... More

We stayed for 3 nights for the fringe festival. Location to shops, restaurants, Royal Mile & Calton Hill is excellent as everything is on your doorstep. Also the tram stop from the airport is right opposite the hotel. Staff are extremely helpful and very friendly. Our room was small but perfect, the bed was comfy and the shower was fab.... More

I stayed in Indigo for just one night and had an amazing time while there. The service was good, staff was friendly and the location was perfect to enjoy the city's main attractions. Breakfast was amazing too.

This has to have been the smallest room I ever stayed in - tiny. I know they had other rooms and I am shocked they gave me such a tiny room as a spire member. That said the room had a comfortable bed. This hotel indigo is not as good as York the staff are not quite there I also... More

What a fantastic hotel. Stayed here for 1 night this weekend. There were 3 of us and we were given a huge room with 2 double beds. Check in was very quick and the staff were lovely, very friendly, chatty and welcoming. The room wasn't ready so we left our luggage and headed out for the day. Once back at... More

Stayed here during festival season for two nights on a weekend. The hotel appears to span a few buildings and we were very happy to get a quiet room in the back; this meant no view, but we slept like logs! Prices in August were predictably outrageous but at least our reservation was not non-refundable as many places in Edinburgh... More

Really great hotel close to centre of Edinburgh. Easy check in -2 mins without the usual 10min pumping keyboard to ensure you have a reservation!. Good breakfast included - coffee the one disappointment. WiFi included and worked, mini bar included, room 208 had great space, nice bar for afters, staff very friendly AND knowledgeable - highly recommended. Hotel directly opposite... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
