We stayed here for 1 night on a trip up to Dundee. The hotel is perfectly located for anything you may want to visit in Edinburgh. The tram stops right outside which can take you all the way to the other side of the city and even the airport. Its quick, efficient and not expensive. If you are visiting the... More

We flew up to Edinburgh and caught the tram from the airport. The tram line ends right opposite the hotel so it was easy to get to. The rooms are very well equipped, modern, comfortable and quiet. The staff are so helpful. We arrived at about 9am and although the room was not ready they let us leave our luggage... More

I've stayed quite a few places in Edinburgh, but this was the most convenient. The tram to and from the airport stops directly outside, which is a godsend. In addition to the tram line, you can catch buses to just about anywhere from the stops within a one-block radius. Right around the corner is the St. James Shopping Centre, which... More

Stayed here on 12/04/15 and had an excellent experience. Receptionist was very approachable and friendly and the room was excellent. Stayed in room 306 which is at the front of the building but didn't find noise an issue.Booked a standard king size room and the bed was massive. Waterfall shower was great and the complementary mini bar is a good... More

This was my second visit to the Hotel Indigo in Edinburgh. I researched a lot prior to my original trip with the decision for my stay based on the hotels location plus the excellent reviews it had received. And on my second visit I again was very happy with my choice. Some of the basics: The location is excellent; 2... More

Stayed here while on a training course - great location with all public transport right on your doorstep. Lovely staff. Beautiful rooms and comfortable bed - the shower was amazing, could have stayed in it for hours ha! Free refreshments and snacks topped up daily. The breakfast was probably my favourite part though, absolutely delicious and fresh to order too!... More

We stayed for two nights from Easter Monday to celebrate my wife's birthday. We stayed in a King Suite. The styling decor of the hotel definitely evokes the 'wow' factor. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was superb. The room was stocked with complementary snacks and soft drinks. There was also a coffee pod machine for espresso.... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
