Stayed at Thrums for 2 nights in a family room with 2 teenagers. Overall the accommodation was satisfactory but no more. Not as clean as I would like. Some aspects of the room looked tired especially the carpet. Great location for getting into Edinburgh (20 min walk or regular buses) On arrival we were greeted by a very polite, helpful... More

We stayed in a family room here over the weekend. The positives are it is a good location, half hour walk to the Royal Mile (with children), parking round the back, room decent size, good shower, quite a reasonable price, firm beds. Disappointments were they almost forced you to pay by cash (adding 2% to ANY card transaction), breakfast was... More

I'll start with the negatives: - The hotel is advertised as "Continental Breakfast Included". The breakfast actually proposes drinks (coffee, juices, tea), butter and jam and toast. For some this might be enough but for most, you should have more diversity (maybe some meat? some yogurt? etc). - In the room most of the things actually worked, even though some... More

The hotel, with its sash windows, stairs, floors, and ceilings, could be a period details sourcebook; located within walking distance to the best places to visit in and around the city centre, yet I fell asleep and woke up to bird chirps! A tiny minus point for the 10 o'clock check-out (but we were allowed to leave our car in... More

Recently stayed at thrums as part of group. The place itself is well kept and very well presented. The rooms were well worth the price. Only down side is the staff. Rude On a number of occasions and incapable of understanding numbers and more importantly prices as well as a manager who won't appear in public when a problems arrise... More

I've stayed at the Thrums several times in the past. It has always been clean and continuously warm. I appreciate the convenience of the Minto Hotel next door where soup and sandwiches are available. The Thrums is on a main bus line to Princess Street. Cooked breakfast is an extra 7 sterling, however the cold breakfast is ample -- cereals,... More

The staff do not want to help you, they want to take your money & then not provide you with the very things you paid for! Unless you are a masochist who loves being treated like dirt, avoid. Also, my lamp & toilet flush were broken, & the heating turned itself off at night (more penny pinching). The shower was... More

Very disappointing stay at the Thrums this December. So much competition around, I would strongly avoid the place!! From the moment we arrived we felt nothing but cold from all the stay at the Thrums. We had a sense that the only thing they wanted from us was extra money and this was their driving force. "We won't be arriving... More

Thrums is different from the other hotels in that is has staff who genuinely bend over backwards to make you feel welcome. The rooms have a very stately feel about them and have a very nice décor. The food is excellent and the locality of Thrums makes it ideal. Will definitely be staying again.
