Given the price of this hotel, and its location, it's hard to be too fussy. Having said that, I think blood on the duvet, a rocking toilet, and filthy carpet are unacceptable even for this price. If you're staying 1 night then you could probably get away with it. Anymore than 1 night and you're going to feel pretty uncomfortable!... More

My boyfriend and I stayed last month as I recently got a new job in Edinburgh and it happened to be our anniversary. We were very kindly upgraded to the Honeymoon Suite which was very large with a fireplace and a 'living area'. The room was relatively basic, but had everything we needed, so I can't fault it at all.... More

Maybe a bit too drastic, but this place could do with a make over. It must have had glorious days in the past, rooms are spacious, but the place is lacking some regular maintanence. Especially the bathroom should have more attention. Shower is very weak. Having said that, this place is not asking much for a stay, so if you... More

The internet connection in the rooms was non existent, very unconvenient. Toilet did not work properly and toilet paper run out. Breakfast was not ready in time and was of poor quality. Not worth the money, and the hotel not worth the nicebuilding it is situated in.

We've just returned from an overnight stay at this privately owned hotel. The hotel is within a 10 minute walk of Princes Street but is quiet enough to get a good nights sleep with the window open. The building is old & quite grand with a lovely, sweeping staircase. Because of this there is no lift, be warned! I'd say... More

Comfortable large bedroom upstairs, all services working properly. not the best of showers. Need to be fit and able to climb large staircase as no lift. A cooked breakfast would have been preferable to the bland 'continental' one provided. A spacious lounge with bar was useful. Staff generally pleasant and helpful. Well situated for restaurants, trams and buses. At £50... More

Have to confess that only booked as thought it was a Duncan Bannatyne boutique type of hotel (will take more time next booking) - and on arrival quickly worked out it was not. Really a budget hostel than a hotel. Good location in quiet street in West End but needs major investment and overhaul. On plus side bed was ok... More

Visiting with friend for Edinburgh festival for 3 nights in a twin room at £560. There was no under sheet on one of the beds and no valances. One bed squeaked so much my friend had to put mattress on the floor. The shower and TV did not work at all. Ripped curtains with piece of bare wood at top.... More

Awful hotel, in fact, one of the worse I've booked for a long while. Fully dissatisfied as a customer. Upon checking in we were shown to a basement room. The room access door to the garden was not locked and the outside area was littered with broken glass and objects. Very run down and not quite as described on the... More

Arrived at this hotel tonight and the pictures online do not match at all. We were placed in a basement room, not mentioned when booked. Arriving into the room was shocked to find a bed that was uncomfortable, the matress needs replacing. As soon as lay in bed you could feel every spring and also the board underneath. Also when... Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
