The hotel is in a fairly good location, being only 10 minutes from Princes street, however that is its only good point. Our first room, room 16, was in the basement and close to the road therefore noisy from the traffic. The wallpaper was peeling off the walls and there were cobwebs in the corners of the room. It was... More

In March 18th 2013, I stayed one night in this hotel in a basement room. People can see me from open curtains from outside. The curtains can't be closed fully. The room had no heat. The Ballantrae West End Hotel had no free parking, so I had to leave very early to avoid the police. Priceline shouldn't advertise this Hotel.... More

6 Welsh friends stayed here over the International weekend! Rooms were adequate but "Continental" breakfast was a processed, plastic affair and the the bar was appalling - no gin or vodka on the Friday night and the white wine was warm! By Saturday night neither gin nor vodka had appeared and the white wine & brandy were also absent! The... More

I stayed at this hotel last October 2012. The room was extremely poor and when complained came across a most unhelpful young man who gave a "couildnt care less" attitude. I made aformal complaint in writing and to date have not had the decency of a reply.... There again, did the staff put the complaint in?????

We came back from a trip to Malaga[Spain} and the flight times left it too late for us to get a train back to Aberdeen. We booked this hotel just by browsing though sites ,and plumped for this one . We were in room 12 , which was handy being at ground level , my wife is disabled . We... More

Tidy hotel and all the staff were very helpful and polite. Situated close to the West end of Princes Street, five minutes walk and ten minutes walk to Murrayfield. There is no lift in the hotel but that was not a problem for our group. Rooms were clean with comfortable beds. Definitely go back there.

My girlfriend and I stayed in this hotel for a gig at the Castle and we werent disappointed nor where we overwhelmed by it. I think it's a case of getting what you pay for. This hotel is cheaper than many in Edinburgh, and for what we paid it was OK. Yes, the furniture is old-fashioned, but it could be argued that it matches the architectural features. My room was comfortable and warm. Bedding was OK and I slept well. Some reports here are... Booked this place last minute and considering the prices of other places I didn't think it was bad. The hotel feels tired and like it has seen better days. Rooms aren't bad. My biggest compliant is the breakfast. It was awful... From the coffee to the croissants, waffles and even cereals on offer.
