This is the second time we gave stayed in this hotel and I have to admit it was first class. Last time we stayed I was a little critical of the things we never received IE free newspaper complimentary short bread , discount in the Huxley bar, all small things , but I am delighted to say everything was terrific... Great location, can walk everywhere, & very convenient for getting to/from the airport. Beautiful, comfortable room. Helpful staff. No bar/restaurant as such, so you use the one next door. best black pudding EVER for breakfast. Stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed every moment.

Pre Christmas break in this amazing hotel was superb. The hotel staff were so helpful, the location was ideal for walking everywhere for all places of interest, room was extremely comfortable, clean and with everything we could want. The Kyloe restaurant in the same building was excellent..the best steak experience.

Chose this hotel for a romantic getaway and my first visit to Edinburgh. Absolutley amazing hotel, nothing was too much trouble. From the time I made the booking to the moment we left (rather reluctantly I add) we were made to feel special and as if we were the only people there. Beautiful decoration and combines modern amenities and comfort.... More

Chose this hotel for an overnight stop-over. Walking into the hotel reception to be warmly welcomed. Check-in was smooth and we were showed to our bedroom. Room 6, Junior Suite with a view of the castle; spacious with a lovely comfy bed, Nespresso machine, minibar, GHDs, complimentary chocolates and mineral water. Bathroom of a good size with bathrobes and nice... More

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a generous review of your recent stay with us and thank you for mentioning Huxley and their "amazing cocktails"! We take great care in selecting the products and wee extras that we put in every room and it's great to hear you enjoyed them. We look forward to welcoming... More

Big birthday, so my wife decided to treat me to Edinburgh. My first visit to this historic capital city and The Rutland. First night in room 11 with castle view, high up and a large room that was well equipped with a comfortable bed and great views. Grateful for the complimentary bottle of prosecco. Unfortunately, we had to move to... More

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at The Rutland Hotel. We are thrilled you enjoyed so much of your stay including Kyloe and The Huxley. I am pleased that you were upgraded by the Reception Team and given complimentary Prosecco as your custom is entirely appreciated. The team explained the upgraded room was far bigger but... More

Recently stayed for a weekend away and the Rutland was wonderful. Beautiful apartment, great location, friendly staff. Highlights include heated floors in the bathroom and a Wii game system for cozy yet competitive nights in. Excellent as far as access to public transit, restaurants, and sight-seeing. My only disappointment is that we waited too long to book our next visit... More

Stayed here one night & would definitely book again. This is a boutique hotel right next to the Waldorf Astoria; perfectly placed for central Edinburgh shopping & sightseeing. There's a taxi rank right outside the hotel & parking about 10 minutes walk away at Castle Terrace. The hotel validates your parking chip to deduct £10 off your parking fee. We... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
