We had a standard room which was lovely, overlooking road but double window meant no traffic noise. (Some rooms have a view of the castle, and apartments also available) Room decent size, nice accent colour decor, comfortable bed, large bathroom complete with bath products. We thoroughly enjoyed the in room complimentary shortbread, bottled water topped up every day, and the... More

My wife and arrive the morning of July 12th after and overnight flight from the U.S. We were warmly greeted and showed immediately to our room. The room had modern furnishings and was very clean. I did not realize that breakfast daily was included with our stay. The asked if anything could be brought to the room since breakfast was... More

Our room faced an amazing view of the castle. We had plenty of closet/drawer space. The bathroom was large and well supplied. The room included a huge breakfast at the Cafe Huxley which was downstairs and attached to the hotel by an interior passage. The staff was friendly and tried to resolve some of the problems we faced: no air... More

Me and my wife stayed at apartment 15/3 for two nights and were overall very pleased. It was everything we expected and then some. One downside, however, you may not order continental breakfast to the apartments, only the hotel rooms. With a hotel pushing luxury as their primary sales point they should make the effort of bringing some breakfast two... More

We arrived in Edinburgh by car and could not pull up outside the Hotel, but down the road a bit. It was early to book in so we unloaded the car and took the 4 cases to reception. We were advised that we could park the car safely not far away for a discounted fee of 10 pounds. We parked... More

We've stayed in hotels, private homes, B&B's all over the world and this is in the top 3. We had 3 couples for The Open, 1st time in Scotland, we booked a 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom apartment. Everything about our stay was incredible! The service was top-notch, our apartments were well appointed and very comfortable bedding with spacious bathrooms.... More

I stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment with my parents which is a must see property. The rooms are very tastefully decorated and everything is top class. Their homemade shortbread is the best I have ever had. I am definitely coming back!

We were only there for one night in July, but were favorably impressed. Our room was a corner space with views of the castle, and, while it overlooks a very busy intersection, the double-glazed windows kept the room quiet. The hallways are a little circuitous as you might expect from a re-design of an older building but the staff was... More

We recently had 2 nights at the Rutland staying in one of their 2 bedroom apartments ( No.19). It was terrific and perfect for our family of 5. We loved the central location, the well equipped kitchen and laundry and and the lovely garden out the back to sit in when the sun was shining.

We stayed two nights here recently. Great location for a quick look around Edinburgh. Room was very clean and well appointed. We dined in their steak restaurant, very nice. Breakfast in the downstairs bar was excellent. And their is a gin distillery underneath!!

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
