We flew from Exeter to Edinburgh and stayed 3 nights at the Rutland. It's location is great, a simple tram ride from the airport and right next to everything you need. We had a castle view room, which was very spacious and clean, with jacuzzi bath. We ate in both restaurants which were brilliant, and a great bonus getting a... More

This hotel is fantastic. A quick hop from the airport on the bus link (it stops right beside the hotel) a simple and efficient check in and I was shown my room. Lots of space, fantastic facilities and a great modern feel. Lovely big bed to stretch out on and chill out before I headed out for a beer and... More

I spent a long time researching where to take my wife for a surprise 10th anniversary night away and I am pleased to say that I could not have picked a better hotel! Booking through Mr & Mrs Smith, I received a great rate and a voucher for a free cocktail each - which was delicious. The hotel is really... More

Just came back from 2 day stay at The Rutland for my wife's 50th birthday, and have to say it was fantastic. I booked a junior suite but on arrival we had been upgraded to an apartment. Apartment 2 was amazing, the decor was just up our street and the bed was so comfortable it was just like sleeping at... More

Staying here in a two bed apparent and its a very stylish CLEAN AND COMFORTABLE hotel. I would recommend anyone to stay here. We arrived in Edinburgh this afternoon into our pre booked apartment and I refused to stay because it was dirty and very poor ( not the 5 star it said it was). We thought we might have... More

We have just come back from staying 3 nights in The Rutland. We had a standard room which was very comfortable and big enought for us. On two nights of our stay we ate in the Kyloe, the service and food were excellent and the staff are so helpful, friendly. If you fancy a steak they will bring all the... More

Just stopped 3 nights in The Rutland Apartment. This is less than a minute walk away from the hotel itself below the street. It has the wow factor and is soo lovely. Two bedrooms one bathroom. Underfloor heating and a small little court yard. It is so spacious and can fit many people in, I choose this as the bridal... More

The Rutland has been my favorite boutique hotel to stay in during my visits to one of Scotland's greatest cities. The welcoming staff, modern decor and location (not to mention reasonable price!) make this stop always a favorite while visiting Edinburgh. I knew my time at The Rutland was charmed when a print of Lichtenstein's "In The Car" awaited my... More

My boyfriend and I stayed at The Rutland for a weekend break and treat. The first night we stayed in one of the apartments. The decor was beautiful however I think it was overpriced. The apt was cold and the shower leaked. In the advert for the hotel it boasts of having a coffee machine but you are expected to... More

My husband and I stayed at the Rutland Hotel for two nights. As it was our first visit to Edinburgh city, we wanted to ensure we stayed at a location in walking distance to all major attractions. As the Rutland hotel is across the street from St. Cuthbert, St. John's and Edinburgh Castle, it was the perfect location for a... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
