As noted by many other reviewers, it is a pity the common areas (including bathrooms and lounge) are so small and the WiFi so unreliable, because other than that RMB is a surprisingly lovely place to stay. I appreciate that the 'crampness' is part of what gives it its cosy atmosphere, but it does take some getting used to, particularly... More

Staff were helpful and friendly enough and the rooms and bathrooms were clean. Located on the royal mile so its a very short walk to most attractions in Edinburgh. Only con is that everything is a bit small. Not really enough fridge space and not enough bathrooms for the amount of people staying. Rooms can also get a little stuffy... More

It is just middle of the Royalmiles. Very good location for eating, drinking and transportation. You can visit lots of part of the the city while you arewalk from hostel. Very close to edinburgh castle. They have friendly staff and good service. It could be a bit more clean.

The hostel is in a great location for getting everywhere in Edinburgh and is near so many lovely bars, pubs and restaurants. This did mean however that it can be quite loud in the rooms at night from the noise outside. This was fine for me as I'm a heavy sleeper, but lighter sleepers may want to bring earplugs. The... My friend and I had one night booking on Good Friday. We were coming off a tour that afternoon and had flights leaving the next morning. At 10am they sent an email that said "We are overbook and have no more beds avaliable. Your booking has been cancelled. Sorry". Being Good Friday we couldn't find anything in the city so... More

Even though I had booked two weeks in advance and received the confirmation email, when I arrived I was told there was a problem with the system and it was overbooked. The receptionist gave me a few options of other hostels to try. Unfortunately at this late stage all the hostels where full and I ended up sleeping in the... More

You can't sleep due to the street noise (people shouting) and can't breath during the night as too many people in one dorm. Extremely dirty. Only 2 showers and 2 toilets. Bed and bedlinen are filthy and smelly. No wifi in the dorms. Kitchen is freezing and very dirty especially the fridges (2 very small ones). Avoid at all cost!... More

Myself & 3 friends had booked in to stay here for the weekend, After what felt like a decade of walking up the hill to get to it from the bus station, We got to our rooms which for 4 girls all trying to get dressed for a night out in was like a tin of sardines. I really was... More

The thing that struck me the most about this place, after climbing the don't-blink-you'll-miss-it stairs, was how awesome the staff were! None of them were Scottish of course, but they were far more helpful and fun than any other hostel stuff I had encountered so far. They yapped with me for ages when I arrived to tell me about things... More

The best thing about the hostel is obviously the location, which is on Royal Mile, in the heart of the city centre, with Princes Street and the major transport links by bus and train within close proximity. From its tiny entrance, you would be firgiven for ot even noticing it was a hostel. It is a stone's throw away from... More
