This hotel is located in a quiet area, offering tasty Scottish breakfast. Rooms in the hotel are clean, and their staff is very friendly and helpful. Even during Edinburgh Festival when the entire town experiences a great inflation, price is still reasonable comparing with other similar hotels.

Dont be fooled by the title Abbey Hotel, it isnt. It is simply a Bed and Breakfast. Yes its quite and yes its in a nice location and yes staff are friendly. However the rooms are very dated and in badly need of a lick of paint, room 16 also needs new windows and damp in ceiling needs looking at.... More

Just a little out from the old town but it's a perfect walk and distance. Very friendly service and breakfast has a great selection. This hotel has very large rooms, very clean and comfortable with a lovely garden to stroll in at the rear. Located near lots of pubs, bars and good restaurants and behind the hotel is the Royal... Abbey hotel is well located in calm surroundings but still very close to the city center. My single room was small but got everything you need and it was as clean as it should be. I had a great full Scottish breakfast that lasted more than half of the day!

The hotel is well located, within walking distance of Princes Street, Waverley Station and The Royal Mile. It is just around the corner from the Edinburgh Playhouse and lots of restaurants and pubs. The room - we had a family room, sleeping 4 - was comfortably large and overlooked a well kept garden. Breakfast was good, with efficient service by... More

We stayed at the Abbey Hotel while in Edinburgh for shopping and consert at the castle. The hotel has lovely helpful & friendly staff. The hotel is clean and comfortable and local to everything. Breakfast was lovely, full english & toast. Would definitely recommend staying here or go back if staying in Edinburgh again.

First impression of the hotel was that it was very nice. My opinion didn't change throughout our stay. We arrived as a group of 30 (25 children, 5 adults). Check in was quick and pain free. The owners and staff were all very friendly. The hotel is very clean and tastefully decorated. The bedrooms varied in size but most were... More

Stayed here for a one night business trip earlier this month. First impressions were good, lovely frontage and location. Decor inside the reception and corridors is nice and has a warm cosy feel. Inside the rooms is a different story, whilst not bad, the rooms are average and a little shabby and could do with the freshen up. I was... More

The staff were very helpful. It was in a great location, very scenic. The breakfast was great. Everything was clean & nice. The shower was hot & had good pressure. I would definitely stay here again. :)

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
