This was our third flying visit to Edinburgh and The George hotel was the best accommodation we have stayed in. Well placed for walking to all attractions including the castle. The staff are all so friendly and you get the feeling that nothing would be too much trouble. Our room was a decent size with a massive and very comfortable... More

This hotel was ok. At first we were given a really small room, and considering we paid extra for a large twin, it was not acceptable, so we asked to be moved to a larger room which was better. Breakfast is ok, nothing great shakes. Unfortunately they were renovating the restaurant and bar so we lost out on going to... More

Extremely friendly and helpful staff, best location: quiet and yet in the middle of all happenings, decent rooms. Most of attractions are within walking distance, the airport transfer to the hotel with the Airlink 100 bus is only 2 minutes walk, from the hotel to the airport approx. 7 minutes walk. The interior is nice and attractive.

The George Hotel is the grand old lady of Edinburgh George Street, an elegant façade and an elegant hotel that needs a wee bit of an upgrade. Our room was very comfortable but to get to it we had a long trek up stairs and along corridors then down stairs and along more corridors. Sadly these corridors and stair cases... More

Dear Nin4, Thank you for your review of The George Hotel following your recent stay with us. The hotel is made up of three separate buildings therefore the locations of bedrooms do vary throughout. I have passed your comments onto our breakfast manager who will be discussing this matter with his team. I would like to thank you once again... More

Building is marvellous. However is currently undergoing renovations to the Restaurant, they omitted to mention this when booking. Not impressed with Breakfast, food mediocre, staff so intent they removedcrockery while still eating, there appeared to be a shortage of bowls and teapots! Bar moved to a Bedroom Suite on the top floor very cramped, not a good idea.

My wife and I were in Edinburgh for one night last week and made the mistake of booking a room at the George Hotel. The location is fantastic but that's as good as it gets. Our room (three star at best) was at the back of the hotel overlooking an area where building's rubbish bins were stored and was also... More

Dear Richard M, Thank you for your review of the George Hotel following your recent stay with us. Please accept my apologies with regards to the noise from the back lane. Unfortunately there are many establishments that back onto the lane, and although we do not have our refuge collected until after 9am, I can not confirm that this is... More

This hotel might be alright in the summer when no heating is required; in the winter though, it can be misery as the heating doesn't come on until 6pm; at least that's what I was told when I complained about my cold room. Buffet breakfast was fine but the cold spoiled it for me and I would not go back.... More

The room was modern and cleaned daily. The bed is extremely comfortable. Lovely high pressure shower. The room had an iron hairdryer kettle everything u could need. The location is so close to everything we didn't need any transport other than from the airport everything else was walking distance. I would highly recommend this hotel for a lavish stay in... So, the location is fantastic. And the architecture is great, the bonds of the building are purest Edinburgh. Which means that a true four-star hotel here would be a great addition to the city. Sadly, this place is not that place. Our promised early checkin never materialized. The room was small, with an undersized bed: there was more than enough... More

What do you want from an hotel? Without doubt this place has exceptional service, a great location and grand architecture however the rooms are horrendous. I don't say this lightly. Having stayed in hotels from the sub continent to the Niger Delta this one beats them hands down as the worst when it comes to money vs comfort. It took... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
