Great location, décor a little tired. Breakfast ok, but had better. What really lets this place down are the robots on reception, uninterested and unhelpful. Not particularly welcoming on arrival. On our second evening (Sunday) I enquired about booking a further stay and was referred to the website. I am so glad their customer service was rubbish! Sunday night our... More

We stayed here for 4 nights recently, having stayed here before we were pleased to see that the high standards they have are still the same. From the helpful concierge/bellboys and reception staff to the well appointed rooms to the food offerings this hotel is in a very convenient location in the city centre and definitely worth a visit. What a terrible experience we had at The George Hotel. I had booked a double room with a sofa bed for two nights. I telephoned to let the hotel know that we would be arriving late on Sunday night having been to the Commonwealth Games. We were very late in fact, 1 o'clock in the morning having negotiated our way... More

Arrived at 2 p.m. But was told we had to wait till 3 p.m. to get our room so we sat out front in Tempus Bar till 3p.m. The room still wasn't ready. In fact, it was twenty past three before we got in. This is really not acceptable. We had been travelling for almost four hours and wanted to... More

Excellent location in Edinburgh, we stayed in a superior room which was at the back of the hotel it was slightly bizarre as rooms 36-59 are up to the first floor down a corridor and then down some stairs at the back of the hotel so I wouldn't recommend those rooms for those with accessibility issues as there is no... Lovely old traditional hotel, great setting for the city as well. The bar and restaurant are great places to wine and dine, food is also great. But,be aware when booking a room on the street side. We came for the Commonwealth Games and Scotland had really good, warm weather and with no air-con in the room and the locals outside enjoying themselves... More

I stayed here while attending a wedding in Edinburgh, very well positioned close to the town center ,shops and bars. Only had breakfast here and that was fine no issues. I would stay here again if I return to Edinburgh which I will.

Pros Great location right on george street so could walk pretty much everywhere. Room was clean and good size. Amenities fine. Staff helpful. Cons Nothing really special about this hotel. Breakfast was weak and didn't really offer much of a healthy selection. Coffee was terrible (I'm sure a little effort here would go a long way). Nothing really memorable. Conclusion... More

We booked this hotel via an EasyJet package, and we were not disappointed. This gave us excellent value. We were upgraded on arrival. The hotel held our bags at the begining and end of our stay. Service was excellent and a fantastic breakfast served. All in all, this hotel was one of the thing that made a stay in Edinburgh... More

I booked The George for myself and 10 colleagues for 1 night in July and not a single bad word was said about the room, location, breakfast or service. It can be difficult to please everyone but this hotel did! For me the most exceptional factors were the location (more detail below), the friendly staff and the quietness of the... More
