My partner treated me to a wonderful stay in Edinburgh for my birthday. I had no idea where we were staying and you can imagine my delight when he guided me into The George Hotel! The entrance lobby was stunning, beautifully decorated and the staff were very welcoming and polite. Our executive room was very spacious, light and airy, and... More

After a very warm welcome from the concierge and reception staff (they actually seemed pleased to see us, which doesn't always happen in other hotels) my daughter and I were able to access our room in the morning which was welcome after travelling from Cheshire. Our superior room on the sixth floor was spacious and well appointed with an excellent... More

We have just returned home from a two night stay in the George Hotel in Edinburgh. It was delightful. Room was very comfortable and staff very pleasant. A little bit noisy outside on Saturday night, not the responsibility of the Hotel, obviously. We will definitely return.

A quick overnight stay on 10th June at the George Hotel in Edinburgh was very pleasant. Good location in the town centre and close to Waverley Railway Station. The room was spacious and well appointed and the staff were friendly.

Staying 4 nights with my 78 year old Aunt and paid for an upgrade. Upgraded to a lovely room but got two nights of sleep deprivation. Noise from the bin area of glass bottles container being hauled over the yard then dumped in bins at 12.30am and 2.40am followed on first night by 5am refuse lorry was exhausting. I did... More

A buzzing city centre hotel, with a traditional facade but modern, attractive rooms. Great busy bar, big restaurant with lots of breakfast options. Huge bathrooms, comfy beds. Right in the middle of Edinburgh.

The new town location of The George is superb. You're within walking distance of everything in new and old towns. Great nearby restaurants and shopping. The staff is friendly and efficient--love the kilts worn by the staff. There was no air conditioning in our room, but it is rarely a problem in Edinburgh.

Stayed for 2 nights and got upgraded to a superior room. Cannot fault the service, cleanliness or location. Beautiful lobby to relax. Yes bar closed at 10 but reception staff quite happy to provide drinks on request. Would definitely use this hotel again

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
