Stayed at this hotel as part of a BA weekend package & as such it proved to be good value for money. Pleasant welcome on arrival, & our luggage kept securely as we were very early. Later we checked into our rooms on the 3rd & 4th floor. Ours was compact, but with all the necessary facilities, was nicely decorated... More

Dear LindaBSevenoaks, Thank you for your recent feedback regarding your recent stay at Edinburgh City Hotel. I am sorry to hear that your extractor fan was not working and that the safe had to be unlocked by one of our staff members. We do carry out scheduled checks on our equipment, however equipment does break down and this is out-with... More

Stayed one night on a quick break. Hotel very clean and we were upgraded to a family room so plenty big enough. Bathroom very nice. Wasn't inspired to eat here - only one diner plus menu bit limited. Good location to walk into town.

This is a very good hotel in a fabulous historic building. The hotel was originally a maternity hospital and has a lot of charm and character, though the rooms and restaurant are completely updated and modern. Decent bar and restaurant, and a very good breakfast. Just a short walk to the castle and the fun shopping areas, but outside the... More

I have to say this hotel is good; " it's hard for a family group to agree!" The staff, room and breakfast were excellent. It's within walking distance of the town centre & we would come back. The hotel used to be a maternity hospital built in 1840 with a lot of history; In 1847 Scottish obstetrician James Young Simpson(1811-1870)... More

Really a 3.5 star rating. Room was very good, but bathroom taps were not fixed despite 2 days notice given. Breakfast was only reasonable and at a fair price, although a number of issues took off some points though. The lift travels at the pace of a thousand snails making the stairs a better bet. Overall the best part of... More

The hotel staff, room and restaurant were amazing!! Highly recommended! Visited for 2 nights with my sister - even though we had a ground floor room which was street level, this caused no problems at all - fantastic hotel in a fantastic City - we are already planning our return

Stayed at the City Hotel for 3 nights and would highly recommend it. Only 15 minute walk to main town centre and very good bus service just across the road from the hotel. Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighborhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
