From the website it might look like a quirky boutique hotel, but it's really a dire 1990s-style stag and hen pub with grotty rooms above. And certainly not worth 90 quid a night. The bathroom was filthy, the walls were filthy, and the bed probably dated from the 1970s. The breakfast was a boil in the bag fry-up. more

As many of the previous reviews state, the location is second to none. We stayed in the Robert Burns room and yes it is quirky. We were there for the 6 nations match against Ireland so the city and the hotel was lively. The bed was comfortable and at first the bathroom looked great with a big roll top bath,... more

Stayed for two nights in October 2008 and had a very enjoyable weekend. Having read reviews was prepared for the reception/checkin in the bar area. Parking was a problem and as metioned previously there is no lift. Staff were very helpful and we stayed in the Robbie Burns room on the first floor. The room was very clean with a... more

We have just returned from 4 nights at the bank during the middle of the Edinburgh Festival. We were slightly apprehensive due to the mixed reviews we'd read of the hotel, but no need! It's not very quiet, being right on the Royal Mile and above a busy bar, but we were on the fourth floor and with double glazing... more

True, the bank Hotel is not your average chain hotel incarnation. It's first impression is downright quirky, but in this case, first impressions are deceiving. We stayed at the Bank Hotel for three nights, using the Alexander Graham Bell room on the top floor: a wonderfully decorated and spacious room with a great shower, a comfy king-sized bed and reasonably... more

I stayed for 2 nights mid-week in early June. The rooms are above the Bank Bar. You pick up your keys from the bar staff and then go through a door at the back of the bar up some stairs to the rooms above. I was in Room 3 which has a "Robert Louis Stevenson" theme. Decor featured pictures of... more

The hotel is in a great situation right in the middle of Edinburgh. Unfortunately that brings its' own problems in that it can be extremely noisy late at night. The room was ok but very gloomy, no central light and only 3 dim lamps. The bathroom was so so - the basin was cracked and stained and the extractor fan... more

Everything that I read lead me to believe that I was booking an ensuite room which I was extremely careful about. However, upon arrival I found out the bathroom was across the hall. When I complained and requested a different room, I was told everyone had checked in and there were no available rooms which was not true I later... more

This hotel is in an ideal location, however, it is located above a pub which we knew but has many other issues. The first is the bed. Our bed would creak as you turned and I could feel the springs underneath me. Yikes. Also, the plumbing is a huge ordeal. The toilet would flush when it felt like it. Very... more
